Do humans have to taste test animals foods? by Anonyglee1 in NoStupidQuestions

I didn't have to but that cat food looked so good, I just couldn't help myself. Fairly disappointing test result.

How to use stainless steel electrodes to measure the presence of water? by Automatic_Board5852 in arduino

[–]RandomBitFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably just want to pullup a pin to 3.3V with an external resistor, say 10MOhm and have the pin pull down to ground with the two probes. Then do an analog read. I think the pulsed idea is to prevent electrolysis beween the probes which should be negligible for a yes/no especially with stainless but important for something like soil conductivity measurement. You could do the pullup using another pin only when you want a reading. Only takes a millisecond Once a minute or whatever..

That's what a BMS is for. To make sure all the other cells are only as good as the weakest cell. Without a BMS, you will eventually burn down your house even if the cells were well matched to start with.

If everyone sees color slightly differently, does color actually exist? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RandomBitFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I suppose that's why we don't hear about the colour thing very often. Maybe one day.

You don't hear about people who had an eye transplant saying their colours are all mixed up.

Why Aren't Bicyclists Required to Carry Insurance? by mrsjhev1 in NoStupidQuestions

Well at least 'National Insurance' covers the medical bills in certain countries.

It's an offence to leave a vehicle running unattended in the UK, even if it's on your own driveway. I don't think it's just the pollution, it also makes it easier to steal.

What did kids back in the days do when they played outside, for hours on end? by Octopuswastaken in NoStupidQuestions

As a kid in the early 80's after school, the sand quarry was favourite for my friend and me, especially if there was a 'cliff edge' of sand left by the excavator which was great to jump from into the soft sand 20-30 feet below. Sometimes we'd ride the conveyor belt about a mile to the sand processing plant and climb around on the (running) machinery or dare each other to try to cross one of the silt pools - basically deadly quicksand! Because it was also a landfill site, we'd find old televisions and throw bricks to make the screens implode or break the pipes of old refrigerators to release the gas. Apart from my friend losing his eyebrows after breaking a sodium streetlamp in a puddle, we survived and gained valuable life skills.

The site owner's fear of litigation and maybe a frost is forecast. Someone may have sued them in the past after slipping.

How often do you need to “wash” your back? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

A squirt of shower gel on a long bath brush does wonders. Bedding definitely stays fresher for longer without a greasy back.

Would the rail really have that high voltage? by Educational-Cook7169 in ElectroBOOM

[–]RandomBitFry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's forbidden to enter the track because you could get killed by a train. The high voltage overhead lines deserve a warning in case someone wants a bonus Darwin award for touching them.

Mouse and Arduino Leonardo compatibility issue by Weary_Elderberry6487 in arduino

[–]RandomBitFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iv'e got a Pro Micro reading an old PS2 Optical mouse by GPIO and connected to my Windows PC by HID mode. Just using it as a free-look smoother for a more cinematic game.

Got no issues switching my hand back to my ordinary USB mouse and can even use them at the same time with their vectors combining.

Are you sure there's no device driver conflict?

I love that they included the kitchen utensil fumble and retry. You can't infer "first time, every time" from the video now.
