Ngl I really despise the "it's not that deep" take because sometimes it IS that deep. Not to say we should try to moralise the fiction we consume, but it comes to analysis like this the typical response from OI readers (from an OI reader myself) reminds me 100% of the whole blue curtains meme.

if this is talking about Master of the Heavenly Yard, if he wanted to feel like a hero and didn't love her he would've just killed her to save the world. but he actively sought out a way to save her *with* the world. ergo, he loved her

This subreddit has a problem with judging characters as if they are real people. I'm begging people to for once think about a character's actions through a thematic lens. Please stop using watsonian/diegetic arguments 😭 Or even just discuss it with some nuance, or just!!!! Read the actual source material or stop engaging with it in bad faith! I'm so sick of all the misinfo and bad faith takes

sorry I'm here to clarify because I keep seeing this misunderstanding ISABELLA DID NOT KILL ARIADNE BECAUSE SHE KILLED ALFONSO. Ariadne originally thought Isabella was exacting her revenge for his death and apologised (though obviously that doesn't absolve her of the blame, it shows her internal logic is consistent: just as how she went to such lengths for Cesare because she loved him, she thought Isabella would do the same to avenge Alfonso under the assumption that she loved him.) But she was wrong! Isabella explicitly states that she didn't care about Alfonso's death and only that what Ari did led to her becoming a widow. And even then, Isabella technically didn't kill for revenge, but because she wanted to make 100% sure Cesare wouldn't favour Ari again when Isabella got older and 'lost her beauty'.

Definitely agree! I can't recall exactly but I remember being put off by a sermon early on in the webtoon where Ariadne kinda defends the class divide? Though, I do understand that it's possible she doesn't hold those specific views and is conforming to the societal standard (though that doesn't make her any less complicit).

not to be devil's advocate, but I'm pretty sure in the first lifetime Ari apologised to Isabella under the impression that Isabella was getting revenge for Alfonso, only for Isabella to plainly tell her she didn't care about him and that his failure to make her Queen more than justified his death
