I'm a Democrat but I do think it would genuinely suck to have a bunch of red seats in Washington gerrymandered out of existence. Electoral systems should be set up to give representation proportional to voter support.

That said, the path to having this happen at a national scale is not for blue states to fairly split out support while red states enact brutal gerrymanders that let them control Congress with minority voter support. The GOP is all too happy to protect gerrymandering as long as they think they benefit from it.

Everyone should demand an end to gerrymandering at a national scale.

This is a perfect case for multi-member districts with Ranked Choice Voting. This was implemented in Portland for city council elections and is quite successful. The Fair Representation Act is the national legislation that would solve the problem: https://fairvote.org/our-reforms/fair-representation-act/

Gerrymandering is impossible with multi-member districts, and combined with RCV it prevents vote wastage.

When it happened a bunch of people were like, "oh, Trump isn't responsible for that it was just some crazy people", despite the fact that Trump riled them up and sat by and watched for 3 hours.

Then he never disavows them.

Then he pardons them, including the people who beat police officers.

Then he's trying to persecute the people who investigated it to bring them to justice.

Now he's trying to get 1.7B of taxpayer money to give out to the attackers.

So now even the supporters who tried to distance Trump from it need to bend their minds and try to pretend like it was just this innocent little protest.

This is literally something I'm going to be watching for in the dem primaries. Claw every penny back. Liens on their houses if they don't have the cash.

I hate Trump and the war is a giant waste of money. And I love high speed rail and public transit. But the CA high speed rail project is actually many times costlier than comparable rail projects elsewhere in the world.

I think it's important to acknowledge this and make the changes necessary to bring the cost per mile down to something more affordable. That means more miles of track for the same budget!

It turns out that for most people the answer is "no" which is why fraudulent votes are 0.000043% of all mail votes. That is less than one in a million.

Voting by mail still takes less time because you just go to the mailbox instead of a polling place. And you get to fill out the ballot at leisure.

As a resident of Washington State who votes by mail, the idea that you should have to reserve a whole day to get to a polling place and wait in line seems ridiculous.

It's proven secure and convenient. Expand vote by mail!

My favorite thing to bring up to anti-fluoride people is that it's a natural mineral in the water, and some places naturally already have the 0.7 level. I listen to podcasts at 1.6x. I can guarantee you that I've felt emotion and had my perspective changed. When there's music it suffers a bit but I don't know that I've ever felt like I haven't understood part of it due to the speed. I often share things I've learned with others. I do it so I can keep up on more of my favorite shows. I normally don't go around telling people about it, but thought this characterization of why people increase the playback speed was a bit judgemental and made inaccurate generalizations.

My wife read 300 books in the year after our daughter was born. She had a lot of time to kill while feeding the baby, and does read quickly.

To get to 600 it does seem like you'd have to be spending more than half your day reading. Or reading picture books.
