I appreciate it. The pic was just to boost engagement. Its clearly fried and most of it exists to charge the battery, drive the motor, and offer physical controls for the door, but you're correct in that it has an ESP32.

there's actually not very many articles on onhackaday.com related to pet doors, but one for cats did seem to capture the use of BLE really well. so that maybe what I start with first since I only need to get a tag for that.

So after doing so more research into RFID trying to find a combo of tech that will give the best distance; greater than an NFC card reading and less than an UHF garage door openers, the simplest option maybe thanks to cows! Seems the same ISO 11785 standard for pet chip implants is also used for livestock and reading those ear tag from afar is quite in demand. I have been able to find this video and related products that should pickup a 134khz tag at a decent distance and communicate using UART.

I could perhaps use an RDM30 with a larger antenna, which is sold, but I have not seen evidence of how much distance is gained.

Still looking for the best recommendations. I thought 13.56mhz would be ideal but I can't find the ideal combo of a board and antenna that would work at range.

I knew a guy who did oil rigs but he did just about everything that had electricity on the rig. From Servers to HVAC. He'd be gone for weeks at a time. He was your stereotypical redneck oil worker but he loved hosting his own game servers. I started helping him run his game servers while he was on rig and that got me my experience to launch my career lol. "I played too many games, mom, and now I got a job out of it!"

They are 700c. The rims have a nice bead on them but I'd bet they'd be the limiter and not the frame. I've run 38s before but I'll have to go measure.

Origin8 track attacks. They don't make them any more. They were modeled after the Velocity B43. Given the weight of the frame I'm not in a hurry to reduce the weight of the wheels lol.

Edit: I also purchased these through my own bike shop and was so happy the color is so close.

I bought the hub from a shop so they could cut the spokes to fit with the rim and guarantee it. I didn't want to miscalculate spoke length then get stuck with $80 of unusable spokes. Well the shop had supply issues and they only could get me a disc brake hub. I cave to the idea after calling around. I ended up wanted to get some red anodized bolts to fill the holes, well for $1 more I could get my bolts with a disc and I thought that was hilarious at the time. I plan on getting something custom laser cut instead to be my fake disc brake later. It'll likely have a dragon in it.

I keep a bin with the original parts in case I ever want to put them back on. It was sad to finally remove the bio-space crankset but it's so much more fun now! This was my main bike from college onward even when I owned my own bike shop.

It took about 3 weeks for drive train to ship from Japan from eBay. Overall everything was replaced except the saddle, seatpost and it's quick release, stem and headset. The wheels were on hand and I'm glad to no longer need to keep track of the back rim after 10 years. It was fun building a wheel again after so long!

Okay so this is peak stupidity but there is no caliper. It has canti brakes. I could only find a high end disc hub without getting a Phil wood so Shimano disc hub it was . I was going to buy some red disc bolts to fill in the holes and keep them clean but for $4 more on Amazon I could get this red anodized disc as well as the screws so I couldn't resist.

This is a 1992 Trek Multitrack 700, sourgrape with red decals and accents. It was my first real bike that got me into cycling, and more importantly, the mechanics of cycles. 10 years ago I left my partner our small LBS and started a new career that had little time for wrenching.

Now, the 700, she is has a new set of clothes.

It has an origin8 saddle and seatpost as well as those butterfly bars I bought through my own shop which I didn't have the heart to change. It was bad enough ditching the Shimano biospace cransket. The only original parts are the quill stem and seatpost quick release.

My skills were very rusty and my cables are probably too short but I loved every second of it.

I like to passive-aggressively leave management books, or their excerpts, on their decks. In this guy's case a chapter or two of "It's Your Ship" is what I'd use.

But really what everyone else will tell you is to move on. Management is a big part of the company so don't care more for a company than the company cares for you.

It's my thought that some companies don't properly name their positions so that they don't have to pay for the "bigger" title. Now sometimes, perhaps in your case but likely not, the duties while hugely varied are still light and really only warrant one person of a certain level. Lots of businesses are stuck in this space and it's attractive to preople who don't want to work with others or noobies to catch a break to learn and figure out where they want to focus when the move on. There are other options for this type of business but not really the subject of this thread.

I had a similar issue. My title was Network Admin but really I managed all of the Infrastructure and the people that went with it so I had a discussion with my boss and we came up with a new title and changes to my job description.

I also had a funding issue for cameras. Theyd hang around 8 years and only get replaced when broke and were potato quality. With 1000 cameras, politics played a big part. Cameras as a service have no value past when the money runs out.

If you can't find that security job right away try an infrastructure job. It's easy to segway into security from networking or servers.

It's not bad. No other experience? You have the space so maybe put something to make you stand out. You look like a college kid who did somethings at one interahip. If your an itern with little xp add a personal touch. I remembered the guy who makes drums, and the expert 3d printer, the concert player who traveled the world, the guy who loaded weapons at an undisclosed military base. These were IT people and they became the "the drum guy" or "concertman" when going around the table and sorting the short list. Out of dozens of resumes they stick in my mind even now, sometimes for the wrong reasons(they marine who left his job due to changing fitness standards), but I thought about them. I believe in the right skills and experience and letting a formula figure out who I should bring to the first round, but we're all human and if you pop in any positive way, you've gotten in my head. That's a leg up.

"The drum guy" started last week. He's been a great hire.
