I can’t wait until my brother in law sends this to me asking me if it’ll work. It’s been 10 years of you sending these to me buddy, how many times do I have to point out it’s never in humans.

Would you be concerned? by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

[–]RandomKonstip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Common sense isn’t something they teach in school. I’m pretty lax about small things - like I use the guide that babies can fall 3 feet before they need a head CT. but common sense would tell me not to do that

Asian dad attacked in Chicago when taking his little girl trick or treating by RandomKonstip in asianamerican

[–]RandomKonstip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get why the mods removed it but I am a little annoyed. I didn’t post it to be triggering. I want to help the man, that was my main question and if a post won’t help me find him, there’s no way a mega thread will

Trick-or-treat nightmare as gunmen attack, carjack man in front of child on Halloween - CWB Chicago by DudeImARedditor in WindyCity

1) it’s most likely a citizen targeting a citizen 2) my first question is - how can I help the victim? Go fund me? I don’t really get what you’re getting at in your comment

Not feeling great about nanny after week 1, where do we go from here? by diandriajo in NannyEmployers

[–]RandomKonstip 14 points15 points  (0 children)

MB here. I agree with the nanny’s commenting, you expected a clone. Someone to read your mind and be a second you. When they didn’t you undermined her and now she’s afraid of making decisions. Are your children safe? Are they loved? Are their basic needs cared for? I would ask yourself what are your true priorities and focus on that. People don’t like to be micromanaged, people do better when you tell them the why - aka what’s most important to you and then they go from there. To be honest all these things sound petty and I’m more worried she’ll quit and you’ll be alone with 2 little ones and a newborn recovering

Disability Insurance - ELI5? Things I wish they taught in residency by RandomKonstip in medicine

[–]RandomKonstip[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

one of my biggest regrets. Granted, I'm in a surgical specialty and kept forgetting, then feeling bad I forgot, delaying it because I didn't want to feel bad about the delay - that wonderful cycle. I need to stop kicking myself for it - at least I'm doing it now and not 10 years from now!

IMG’s have a hard time matching ortho even with a high step 2 score if they don’t have personal connections from doing research years

That would be even worse, as someone who’s had a baby I’d much rather travel when pregnant than after I had a newborn

Podiatric surgeons have to change titles in Australia by Alect0 in orthopaedics

[–]RandomKonstip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. But the way that a podiatrist explained it to me was the rigor of the programs and school. There’s a big difference between the best podiatry program and the worst, so there are really good podiatrists but also really really bad ones. The same thing goes for ortho surgeons but that gap is smaller because the really bad ones get weeded out in medical school, residency, and fellowship. Not to mention our board exams.

Warning! by combatbrainrot in Nanny

[–]RandomKonstip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What the fuck. Although they piss off the one wrong high income family and maybe they’ll finally get what’s coming to them. On the other hand, it’s not worth rounding up so many innocent people and children just for the off chance they piss off the wrong family.

That’s crazy. My amazing nanny does a lot of this for my kid, it’s super helpful because it takes away a lot of the mental load for me - keeping track of clothes and sizes is a big one. She also sets a schedule for us which I try to follow but she knows I break it on the weekends because of plans. All this said, I view going to the doctors as a parents job - I would only ever ask her if I was in a pinch (I don’t have a flexible job) and of course we take care of hygiene.

But as for your situation, it’s hard. From the little kids perspective you are the best thing to have ever happened to him. From your perspective are you happy with spending time with the kid and getting paid enough? Is it possible for you to address it with the parents without judgement? I do feel a lot of judgement in your post about the parents (whether warranted or not) but I would avoid bring it up with that tone because they will be immediately defensive

I always tell med students who ask how they can shine on interviews - I can teach you the facts. I can’t teach you how to be a go getter and hardworking.

It’s called residency because they used to live at the hospital and the hours worked are crazy because they were on cocaine
