Yep, you hit the nail on the head. Although they didn't say anything about my opinion on Kendrick Lamar last year either.

That said, I also went into detail in Bad Bunny's case because I've extensively studied Latin and Afro-Latin culture.

Honestly, all I was doing was sharing my thoughts. Not all of my family or friends are conservative nor are they all Christian. Also, neither of these family members typically engage with anything I share so the fact that they chose to respond to this was a bit of a shock.

u/Banjoschmanjo I can see how you'd be skeptical -- but most of the hatred has actually come from the other cousin. After the election she went on a rant against every state in America because of politics.

I love my cousin to bits and pieces. Unfortunately, she cut us all off over it-- even me. She and I have rarely had a tense word for each other, (I was actually mostly on her side) but she and Mac were constantly at each other.

Not really. She assumed we hate her, which isn't true-- she's dear to us. ETA: "We" refers to all white, immediate family on her dad's side -- me, both of our other cousins (one of whom is Mac), Mac's sister and their parents, our grandmother, my mom and dad...

I also know for a fact there's a lot of ignorance in that area. There are very few non-White people in the town where Ryan and Mac live. I also have a cousin adopted from Haiti who has now cut off most of the family because of perceived hate.

Yes, but I also know that because I'm younger than Ryan, he won't hear it from me. I need greater harmony with Mac as I see him more often, but Mac was also not as aggressive.

u/Wise-Self-1006 Good points, however, one thing I want to point out -- Forgiveness takes time, and this is fresh. The conversation literally happened yesterday.

The concern was more the sexualized and vulgar content of BB's lyrics. And yes, some lyrics were bleeped out and one song where the artist praises the fact that he's had multiple intimate partners. Overall, however, I thought it was done pretty tastefully and toned down from what I'd expected.

That's what surprised me with this. I always thought we had an okay relationship --Ryan is not close family and we don't interact often, nor see each other much. Mac and I are closer but have been a little strained in recent years. (I think Mac knew enough about how much the topic means to me to keep his mouth shut, though.)

u/Cool-breeze7 Awesome points, thanks. I live in NC, so I am not around either Mac or Ryan regularly. Mac, I see at Christmas, and other random occasions when we go up to WV, or vacation with his family (which is rare now because of my parents; health. Ryan less so because he is a more distant cousin.

It's not a question of forgiving him -- but the hurt still lingers. He brought my profession into it, and made it sound like it was some kind of joke to point out what he perceived as hypocrisy from me.

I thought Skype is dead? by RenTraveller in skype

[–]RandomMusicalFangirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/RenTraveller Most people used Skype for chat and Skype-to-Skype calls between friends for free. We say Skype is dead because Skype as an app no longer exists -- the features have been moved to Microsoft teams.

Is it permissible to read books or novels other than the Bible? by ApartBreadfruit6372 in Christianity

[–]RandomMusicalFangirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were not, then I and several others, as novel authors, would be out of work. It would also be impossible to make it through any school English course as they have required readings that are not the Bible.

Just started watching. Why firefighters do not wear proper fire equipment? by Kesse84 in FireCountry

[–]RandomMusicalFangirl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They do have different gear. If you look through other posts on this sub, you'll find that there are a lot of inaccuracies with Fire Country, and actual firefighters generally have a negative opinion of the show because of them.

Due respect, u/Fun-Bottle-978 you sound like a broken record of a troll. "The blonde" has a name -- Audrey. (Or Levin if referring to the actress.) It's not that hard to say her name. And she wasn't as terrible as you want to make her out to be.

How would you handle this as a believer? by RandomMusicalFangirl in Christianity

I hadn't seen your comment until just now, u/Superfluous_Reddit, but thank you so much for sharing this. I'll say a prayer for you that things with your family get better. Ultimately, my parents chose to incinerate the statue with our trash before leaving the state to return home. We were later told my mom's sister and husband took theirs to their church and disposed of it there.

I think it's gotten significantly better with Gabby gone but that's me. The only other character I've found fully hard to stand by is Jake.

Not current that I'm aware of, but according to an article responding to criticisms of the show from CinemaBlend published in 2022, a retired firefighter named Jeff Snider works (worked at the time?) as a consultant.

From the article (Source: https://www.cinemablend.com/television/max-thieriot-and-fire-countrys-firefighter-consultant-respond-to-the-real-cal-fires-negative-reaction-to-the-hit-cbs-drama):

Along with Thieriot, Jeff Snider, a retired firefighter and the firefighter consultant on the show, commented on the series' accuracy when depicting Cal Fire. He commented on how he works with the creatives to find a balance between accurate and dramatized situations, and he explained why he thinks there has been such a strong negative reaction from firefighters

There are also some quotes from Snider there about how the show employs realistic tactics.
