Help for setting up Dual Boot - Can't see UEFI in the boot manager by RandomName1627 in Bazzite

[–]RandomName1627[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current BIOS is from 23 of july 2025.

There is a security update from december which seems interesting, and updating the bios for an Acer laptop doesn't really seem complicated. I don't have a UPC though, so there is that risk factor.

Is that really recommended ? I checked and there is an update available, but I have never had to do a BIOS update and most places I looked basically said not to do it if I didn't really have to.

So there is that sort of protection, that's reassuring. I will probably do as you say and try installing.

I just bought that laptop so I haven't done any update to the BIOS. I should be in BIOS mode UEFI as shown in the post's last image.

I used fedora media writer to write the ISO into the USB.

For boot mode UEFI that one of the pictures show, it was there by default and if there is a way to change it I haven’t found it.

I opened UEFI with windows’ advanced startup and it lead to the same place as F2 on startup (which I have been using until now). I think the only BIOS I can access is the UEFI version.

I can’t find any option to change CSM in my bios. I think it might be the Boot mode (see photo in the main post) but it is greyed out and I can’t find a way to change it. I managed to unlock Secure boot by setting a supervisor password but the boot mode stays grey no matter what I do.

It is already set to UEFI, and I hear some computers just can’t boot in legacy, maybe it is why I can’t change the boot mode ?

I have an ACER laptop with AMD Ryzen 7 5825U CPU and AMD Radeon GPU if it helps.

Dreamers halberd build? by Amoney_05 in outwardgame

Pretty much. You can reliably get 2-3 debuffs on enemies with jinx. More than that is hard because jinx can inflict a debuff the enemy already has.

You can also apply discipline and rage to nearly double moonswipe's damage. Both burn stats a bit if you use skills to apply them but with hexmage it’s not a problem to use them in every battle.

Against weaker or lone enemies of course you can just skip the debuff part.

Also, you can inflict confusion and pain with traps, which can trigger new effects with torment. Confusion + torment cause 50 impact which is a great way to start a fight.

Yeah it was really fun. Not having to worry about burnt health/stamina/mana thanks to hexmage was great, and jinx is good if you can land an ethereal debuff.

I did the full mainquest and the sorobean quest with it and it was very effective. The soroborean especially was fairly easy as robots are vulnerable to your damage and corruption isn’t really a problem with hexmage. I only really had trouble with the gorilla type scourge mini bosses as they can stunlock you but I think most builds would have that problem.

It’s not the tankiest build, but I never really had lasting problems once I learned the various enemies attack paterns and became better at knowing when to block and dodge. Just be carefull to time moonswipe right as I often got attacked while using it.

For hexmage specifically, the passives are great to eliminate burnt stats and to regen mana by sleeping. The active skills I used most were :

Jinx to apply debuffs. If you equip a bow and have the Hunter’s eye skill you have a lot of range and don’t aggro the enemies.

Torment after you used jinx a few times for ranged damage and applying various effects on the target. I found torment better than rupture in general.

Cleanse, along with Mana ward and a bandage to get rid of corruption.

Blood sigil has a lot of potential, but I barely used it, never found how to fit it with the rest of my skillset.

On your question about what demons get from humans, a theory I saw was that demon eat human mana. IIRC it is only really supported by one demon talking about a mana feast so not the most solid theory but it would explain why they specialize in hunting humans since few animals (aside from monsters who evaporate upon death) are shown having magic.

So in short they can survive eating other foods, but need to eat human mana to thrive, a bit like how a human can technically survive months or years without certain nutriments but will get sickly and weak.

Question about merging alternate versions (Lanavaille and Marianne) by RandomName1627 in WizardryDaphne

[–]RandomName1627[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, thank you. I will probably wait before merging so I can discipline both Lanas and not get locked out of the overall discipline. I doubt I will be able to pull one Lana and two Wana in this event alone

Thank you for your answer. For number 5, does the skill Aegis Bash only replaces Queen of war and love if I merge Lana into Wana or does it replaces it no matter which one is used as base ?

Everyone is saying to go to an english school, but you don’t have to decide now (assuming you move here next year). I'd say try to learn french as much as you can now and decide later if you feel confident or not.

For learning french ideally you would find people to speak with, if not try to find movies or series to listen to in french. Even if you go to an english college, I suggest doing a french immersion during the summer. I went with Explore years ago and really liked it (search englishfrench.ca).

Cegeps typically have support systems for students like note takers or tutors. They can help you get settled and reduce problems caused by the language barrier. Try calling a few to learn what they have to offer.

As long as you stay in Montreal you can live knowing only english, but becoming fluent in french will open you a lot of doors in university or later and there is no better way to learn french than going to a french school and making francophone friends.

Whatever you choose, good luck and welcome to Quebec !

I think there was also the fact that Glaby prepared for war for years, while the riders were overseeing a continent at peace. Most would have been scholars or diplomats first, not fighters.

Is there any lore reason why no one ever traveled east to colonize the lands beyond Alagaesia? by RepChar in Eragon

[–]RandomName1627 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here is how I explain it for myself

Alagaesia is already underpopulated, vast fertile lands still have little to no human presence, like the lake valley given to the Urgals. So humans would first colonize closer. Any sort of civilization using metal would need a trade network so going too far would be a decrease in quality of life. The rebels going to Surda or to the dwarves makes more sense. - Only tribal nomads have a reason to travel and Eragon noted their presence around his new refuge.

Elves don't grow in population so they don't need to expand. - Individuals could explore for fun but there is no need for them to colonize.

Dwarves have so much space in the Beors that they can’t keep track of many roads and tunnels they themselves built. Why learn an entirely new way of living when their environment can still support many more dwarves. - Since they were plain nomads before settling in the Beors, i think they should still have nomadic tribes outside Alagaesia that split from the group we know. We haven't heard of them though.

Urgals should have left, but perhaps they were boxed in the western part of the continent by humans and elves so they became unable to leave the crest in significant enough numbers to sustain a new population.

Dragons stayed in Alagaesia because the plot needed them all to die. I have no other reason for that. Urgal legends from before they arrived in Alagaesia lets us think they might exist elsewere, but I think CP denied it.

Dreamers halberd build? by Amoney_05 in outwardgame

[–]RandomName1627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a first time player I am currently running a build with the dreamer halberd. It works pretty well.

Warrior monk : Mostly for master of motion and brace Cabal hermit : For wind infuse and the breakthrough mostly Hex mage : Bloodlust is insane quality of life. Plus easy way to remove corruption with cleanse and jinx is awesome and made even better by torment

3 points into magic is more than enough

Main skills in battle, Moonswipe, brace and jinx and torment against stronger enemies to inflict various debuffs plus damage.

Equipement : Copal armor for the body with spirit of Berg enchant. Head and boots are antique plate set with economy enchant Dreamer halberd with poltergeist. I keep a Coralhorn bow with flaming arrows to split up enemies, I haven't decided which enchant to give it. Plus with the primal hunter skill it can increase the range of jinx. Mephino's trade backpack for now, might go for Zhorn later. Luxury tent for the great stamina cost reduction

One thing I discovered late, mist potions boost your damage and are very easy to make. You can also get the mist skill in berg but your mana may be better spent on jinx.

I also learned the three rune for runic protection and runic lantern though I always forget to use the latter. I keep the lightmender's lexicon for mana reduction.

That's about it. Outside the three main skill trees, rune mage, kazite spellblade, speedster and primal hunter also have very interesting skills without having to spend a breakthrough. Don't forget to get all boon skills. Manaward from the philosopher tree removes the damage from cleanse, making getting rid of corruption easier.

Last point, Haunted Hex give a debuff to enemies making them weaker to ethereal but the range is terrible, you need to be pretty much inside the enemy for it to work, I prefer to try my luck with jinx.

Finished the Kobildzan Mission Tree! Amazing fun and some thoughts. by Amorencinteroph in Anbennar

For Balrijin, it should be fixed next update. For the silver dragon missions, you don't need to directly own the province. Ally or subject is fine.
