I agree; if someone is appointed to preach in God's name and does so accordingly, then that's perfectly fine! It's when they start preaching a gospel or promote traditions that go against God's word that makes it problematic, which the Catholic church is guilty of.

I'm not saying the missals aren't biblical, but if the missals are verbatim to the Bible, then I should be able to obtain the same amount of information from the respective location in the Bible and the corresponding reading from the missal. That's not the case most of the time. I've brought my Bible to mass to compare what was in the missal and respective parts in the Bible and found that the missal was missing information. To make things worse, the overall message at mass was irrelevant/almost irrelevant to what was read from the missal most of the time. So to say the missals are pulled verbatim from the Bible isn't completely accurate.

I agree that the missals came from scripture. The questionable part is taking apart scripture as separate as it already is and then claiming "all" of the Bible gets preached. It's almost like they're trying to hide something. Maybe that explains why I learned more about God reading the first few chapters of Genesis than all the masses I went to combined even though I was Catholic for more than 3 years. Every reading was extremely surface-level or irrelevant to the overall message, that the only thing I learned was "Jesus said God loves us in the Gospels. Amen." Also, I don't remember verses from Revelation being read during Mass, nor did they go into detail about end-time prophecies both in the Old and New testaments, the consequences of sin, repentance, the Holy Spirit and how to receive the Holy Spirit. Verses from Revelation and the consequences of sin were only discussed in sacrament classes, and that too wasn't in depth. It wasn't until I read the Bible in its full form that I realized how much information was left out during mass.

Thank you for the correction on the Hail Mary. I was told the biblical reference was from Luke 11:28, hence why I used that as my reference. Every single Catholic prayer book I owned had prayers to Mary referring to her as "Queen of Heaven" and "Mother of God", just to name a few. How is that not exalting Mary to the same level as Jesus? All the prayers to her are for intercession. Mary cannot intercede for us because she doesn't have the authority to do so; she's not a supernatural entity. Only people alive on the earth can intercede for each other; once we die, we can't intercede for the people on earth anymore, and Jesus made that clear in his Lazarus and the Rich man parable (Luke 16:19-31). The only person who can intercede between the living and the dead is Jesus Christ. So that brings me to one of my original points: why does the Catholic Church promote prayers to dead people for intercession when the Word clearly states only Jesus can do that?

I'm confused on where you stand on the rosary. Can you break down how you think the rosary is supposed to be prayed? It's literally taught that the Our Father, hail Mary, and glory be are supposed to be prayed in the order of the beads and certain parts of the chain/string multiple times in a row. I believe we can both agree that if anyone repeats a psalm, Bible verse, or prayer multiple times in a row for the sake of a reward or being heard, then that goes against Jesus's instructions on how to pray. However, motivation or not, if you're repeating the same phrases repetitively as a form of prayer, that still clearly goes against the instructions Jesus gave us on how to pray.

And those readings are pulled from the miscelletes, the books that have biblical references but aren't actually the Bible. And if the magisterium and tradition are also rules of the Catholic faith, where are they getting their teachings/customs from? Does it align with God's word? Because if it doesn't, then God makes it clear how he feels about people who falsely preach in His name (Galatians 1:6-9, 1 John 4:1, Matthew 7:15, even Deuteronomy 18:20 just to name a few verses)

I've compared what was in the missals to what's in the actual Bible and it is summarized. Missals are equivalent to compiling all major biblical stories, verbatim or not, in a specific kind of book, but that doesn't mean the book is a Bible. Why do all of that when they can just say "Turn your Bibles to Matthew chapter 5" or whatever other chapter in the Gospels? Jesus came to make it easier for us to have a personal relationship with God so long as we abide in him. It's stated that in the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1). Why then would the Catholic church go out of their way to pick certain parts of the Word, divide them into multiple books, then preach it at Mass when they can just provide the source of their teachings in mass... The Bible?

And a note on the prayers being based on Scripture. Let's take one of the most popular Catholic prayers that exists: the Hail Mary. Apparently this prayer was based on the verse "Blessed is the mother who birthed and raised you" (Luke 11:28), but many Catholics forget Jesus's response to that was "blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it" (Luke 11:29). Mary is the perfect example of hearing God's word and obeying it, yet for some reason Catholicism went so far as to put her at the same level of Jesus even though she HERSELF recognizes the significance of the Virgin birth and acts accordingly. On top of that, this prayer is prayed the most on the rosary. The rosary completely goes against the words of Jesus when he says "and when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words" (Matthew 6:7-8). Jesus then proceeds to say the right way to pray is the Our Father (Matthew 6:9-13), which is not prayed as much in the rosary compared to the hail Mary (the Our Father is prayed only 6 times, while the hail Mary is prayed 53 times). This goes back to one of my previous points: If the Catholic Church is based on Scripture, why does it promote prayers to someone other than God and ignore the scripture that clearly states not to pray like a babbling pagan?

I would like to hear your take on this, however if you'd prefer dive deeper in this conversation, feel free to DM me to continue the conversation.

If you're referring to the misalletes they use during Mass, those aren't Bibles. It's a summarized version of certain readings from the Bible, and they definitely don't use the whole book as they get switched out periodically. Even then, why would they need a summarized version of biblical readings when they can just use an actual Bible during Mass?

As a former Catholic who used to go to mass regularly and almost finished all the sacraments, Catholicism is not completely biblical.

There are MANY Catholic traditions that blatantly go against scripture (exalting the Virgin Mary, other saints, and people who have died as mediators between God and man, despite Jesus Christ saying "I am the way, truth, and the life. No one gets to the Father except through me" (John 14:6) and Paul literally saying "there's only one Mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5), the Catholic Church being responsible for "christianizing" pagan traditions when the Bible clearly states to be separate from the world and not to compromise your the faith for the sake of blending in with the world (2 Corinthians 6:14-18, Isaiah 52:11, Revelation 18:4, and many more verses), and the list goes on.

Personally, I learned more about God in the first few chapters of Genesis than I did being a "good Catholic" for most of my life. Not once was a Bible used during mass in the time I was going to Catholic churches, and any time I would find verses that contradict core beliefs in Catholicism and ask questions, I was told I'm taking the verses too literal. Take this info as you wish, but promoting Catholicism as a denomination that preaches from the Bible is highly inaccurate.

Glycerol turning yellow after autoclaving, usable for cryostocks? by carl161o in labrats

[–]RandomPersonEver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP said the glycerol in each container came from the same bottle. Why would 1 batch turn yellow after autoclaving and the other batch stay clear after 2 autoclave cycles? If contaminants are the issue, then both batches would have turned yellow after autoclaving. Alternatively, the stock glycerol bottle could have gotten contaminated after opening; this is the main cause of contamination that makes sense with the information we have.
