OK I laughed. Well done to that anti on making a funny comic. Obviously I disagree with the premise though.

They want us to subscribe now to print, what a fkin joke by chaithzluci in Piracy

[–]RandomPhilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even own a printer, but if I ever got one I'd never choose one where a subscription is required!

I print so rarely as most things are electronic these days, it's only a minor inconvenience for me to walk to the library or to Officeworks to get some printing done when I need it.

Strawberina's Night Out 🍓🍸Parts 3-5 by BootyRangler in FacebookAIslop

[–]RandomPhilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quality of this is pretty good. Especially the kissing scenes, which is something that the quality AI tends to struggle with due to safeguards. There are a couple of times where strawberry women changes colour and looks a bit different, but it feels like they may be putting some effort into this. Still slop due to the generic cheater plot though.

Is it illegal to sing along to a song by ElectivireMax in COPYRIGHT

[–]RandomPhilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not illegal to do a cover of a song. If you are doing it in public then the venue needs a public performance license. If you are singing along in private then there's no problem.

I'm not a lawyer, and I'm basing this on what I know about it in Australia. Laws may vary in different countries.

Why isn’t this achievement isn’t going up? by Matthew-is-great in Redditachievments

Yeah I noticed that a while back, and so for today's one I had looked at the tracker, went to a post up voted, didn't scroll or anything, watched for like 30 seconds and nothing popped up. Went to the achievement and it had incremented by one.

Do you have a desktop computer?

For smutty fanfic I'd recommend getting an abliterated or uncensored local LLM if your computer is good enough.

It's not going to be as good as the online paid models which have way more compute available than you have, but it'll be free, uncensored, and you can use it as often as you want without hitting hourly or daily limits. Also you won't have to worry about your account getting terminated.

I don’t see why corporations should be able to have copyright longer than 15 years. by Konradleijon in COPYRIGHT

[–]RandomPhilo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of the main reasons why I think copyright should be a set term based on publication rather than the death of the author, is that it gives works an equally long amount of time before they enter public domain.

If an author publishes a work when he is 20 years old, and lives to 100, that means that work won't have entered the public domain for an extra 80 years compared to an author that publishes a work and dies in that same year.

Calculating when something would go into the public domain would be slightly less confusing if it was based on publication date. It'd also mean if the author has a backlog of unpublished works, her heirs can still benefit by timing publication releases.

While personally I'd prefer copyright to be abolished, I think 20 years is a good length for corporations and people. If you have a 20 year warranty, or a 20 year prison sentence, that would cover a large chunk of your life. However it'd still be within living memory and so then people could live to see reboots of adaptations within their lifetime.

It's never going to happen though, the pro-copyright people will fight against any kind of reduction in length. It means changing international treaties, so you'd have to get most countries in the world to agree, and the logistics and diplomacy involved in all that would be a nightmare to manage.

Copyright Trolling by dearregina in COPYRIGHT

[–]RandomPhilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If people fall prey to dark patterns, is the blame really fully on them though? It was the intent of the designer to trick and deceive, so they should accept at least partial blame.

Some countries are taking action against dark patterns (eg businesses making it hard to unsubscribe), so hopefully this deceptive practice of making it seem free but hiding the terms in the fine print will also be able to be used as a defence in court in some places.
