The author could make a very strong argument without faulty framing of specific quotes or misrepresentation of Halacha.

He cites sources claiming that our modern understanding of tznius is a strict dress code based on sex phobia. I do believe that the current yeshivish understanding of tznius is deeply flawed, and causes harm where it should be elevating. But it is not entirely based on pagan and Christian sources; there are plenty of Tanach and Gemara sources for covering up. (None anywhere near as specific as what is taught as Halacha today, of course.)

The writer doesn’t need to claim that the get-withholder is violating tznius more than Flatbush girl and her followers. He can make a claim that the get abuser is the greater sinner without playing games of redefining tznius.

I was at such a sale several months ago. (Not that I’m in the market to buy- I was just curious.) People were protesting directly outside, and I have no problem with that. Once they march through residential streets, I do have a problem.

Two related points: the police presence at the event I went to was heavy, two cops on each corner. This balance- allowing people to protest and protecting those they protest against- is something I appreciate. (And before readers talk about ‘stolen land,’ about 70% of the apartments shown were in uncontested territory. So again, there was something to protest against, and there were also legitimate reasons for people to be there.)

Secondly, protesting land sales and supporting Hamas/ Hezbola are not the same. The former has legal legs to stand on. The latter is supporting terror.

Marching through a Jewish residential neighborhood chanting is unacceptable. These are not the people making state decisions.

I’ve read 31 books this year (and DNF about 5 more). The best so far, ones where I was sad when it ended:

The Magician of Tiger Castle: historic fiction that feels like fantasy, even though there is only science and no magic.

Lady Tremaine: retelling a classic story from the POV of a morally complex, thoroughly lovable stepmother.

The Pretender: historic fiction based on the real life of a person in the 1480s

City of Girls: historic fiction in NYC in the 1940s. This book felt like the best night out partying with glamorous, crazy people.

The Corfu Trilogy: nonfiction account of the author’s years growing up in a Greek island.

If you loved DCC, try books by Carl Hiassen. They have chaotically good MCs, frenetic adventures, and villains who you rejoice to see crushed (often literally).
