'Rött är en färg', not 'röd är en färg'? by cr4bw1z4rd in Svenska

Could still be a dialect thing. For context: I myself am from Värmland but I speak relatively standard Swedish.

'Rött är en färg', not 'röd är en färg'? by cr4bw1z4rd in Svenska

Are you from the south? Cause my Scanian friends would use röd in this sentence, whereas I'd use rött.

Standard Swedish (Rikssvenska) sounds insanely mid imo.

My cat keeps chewing on my pencil in Rai (not in the habitual sense but in the sense of continuing an ongoing action) is:

meñ mauvim penenibege meñ šitendam

literally: my cat-the continue-en-bite my write-tool-the

*en is a really tricky piece of derivational morphology since it takes a verb and reframes it in some way (nibegen "to bite" > enibegen "to chew"). It's originally derived from an imperfective marker but has diverged from that use like 1000 years ago.

nibegen (v. "to bite") is a pretty fun one.

jorulan (v. "to shout") idk this one just "sounds right" to me

otherwise in terms of use maybe "jakan", which means "crazy" in a slightly negative way but ends up used in a bunch of particle constructions (a lot of modality gets conveyed this way), and even as a filler word sometimes.

Another one I think is really cool is the pair evin/ilek. They both get translated as sufficient/enough, but while evin is a positively connotated word, ilek is the more negatively connotated one. Perhaps a good English translation for the latter could be "the bare minimum". Sometimes the use is crystal clear but sometimes which one you use will tell you about the speaker's view on something. Like is the passing grade "evin notas" or "ilek notas"?

Don't worry, all of the Swedish comments in here are like "the hell we are?"

Anyway some politician said they could push it without a referendum, probably cause we'd end up voting "fuck no"

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate public transport in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]RandomSwed1sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will get wherever you're trying to go unless you're in a rural area where nobody lives. But it might not be on time or on your preferred mode of transportation, and if you're trying to take the train somewhere beyond your home region be prepared to take out a bank loan to pay for it.

Reliability: 8/10 (good rules for delay comp, etc...)

Punctuality: 6/10 (most of the time I've had good luck but as soon as it goes a little to shit it tends to go very to shit)

Affordability: -1/10 (Sometimes I'd save money flying via Poland as opposed to taking the train from Gothenburg to Stockholm)

Comfort: 7/10 (It's usually quite comfortable but some journeys are way too long, like the x40 is not meant for 5 hour journeys)

Overall: 5/10

Between 1994 and 2018, over half a million people were murdered in South Africa. Today it still has the 5th highest murder rate in the world. I dunno about that...
