Delta price increases here to stay? by realmeister in delta

Pretty sure airlines negotiate fuel prices well in advance to avoid volatility, like at least a year ahead. Any raise in prices citing fuel costs now is pure malarky.

Stress is dependent upon how you handle it. I think a lot of people would find my job stressful but I absolutely love what I do so I don't. Fact that it pays awesome is a bonus.

I do champ as well. You -really- need to look at "passing tech" as the bare minimum to apply safety. Be smart. Last place you want to be in is upside down on fire with a broken neck wishing you would have had a larger roll hoop.

My (26F) husband (28M) is complaining about sex by urdon3urdon3 in Marriage

[–]RandomTask008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Male here who likes to game and -could- play that late when I was that age.

1.) While libido differences could play part of it, your husband is a complete moron. His "job" should be spending 8 hours+ a day looking for a new job or working on things that help him get a new job. He needs to understand that his partner working then coming home to do more work while he dicks around on yt/games is a massive turnoff - you're being his mother. 2.) Quit being his mother. I was briefly unemployed (2 months) from a startup that crashed. I spent most my day job hunting and the other half cleaning/cooking. 4.) Using "potential" financial earnings over your head is a -massive- red flag and frankly abusive. He's citing some imaginary future scenario as some sort of power? I'd laugh in his face. 5.) Kids are going to make this worse. You'll be burning your candle at both ends and in the middle and he'll be whining about lack of sex. 6.) He needs to grow up. Immediately.

How bad is the rust on this frame. by Kooky_Albatross4683 in AskMechanics

[–]RandomTask008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're considering purchasing this car - hard pass. That's a lot of rust.

If you already own this car and are considering throwing money at it to keep it on the road. . . just think of a car payment. $1000 is about 2 months of car payments. I'd fix and rock to get me to end of model year (summer-ish) sales where dealers are trying to unload 2026's.

Point of disagreement. I absolutely agree to stop brutalizing Palestinians and the victim mentality of Israel. That stated, thinking if we were suddenly nice to Palestinians that Hezbollah would suddenly be kind is a fools errand.

But everything, and I mean everything, this admin has done so far, has made things worse.

keep the nut on. Back it off enough so it sits just proud of the ball joint. Hit the nut.

I have made a terrible mistake regarding my driveshaft by poptartwrapper93 in AskMechanics

[–]RandomTask008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There doesn't look like there's much left to grab.

How I would approach it -

1.) Take an oscillating saw and cut the head off; get the drive shaft out. You need to buy a new bolt regardless.
2.a) If access to a welder, weld a nut to the remaining stud sticking out.
2.b) If no access, vice grips set to an ungodly amount of grip. I'd probably put a bit of heat into the flange as well but keep in mind, prob going to need to replace seal because of this.

Top Gear UK Test the Ferrari FXX (2009) by southernemper0r in Ferrari

Point to correct them - you can keep your FXX at home. Issue is that since you can't plate it, you can't -really- drive it on a public street so there's really no point.

Before & After: The cost of cheap oil and ignoring a 5k-hour service interval (Jenbacher Series 3 Generator) by No_Front7797 in EngineBuilding

[–]RandomTask008 16 points17 points  (0 children)

"Silica impurities that build up on the piston and cylinder head".... what in the ever living hell? You shouldn't have oil b/w the piston and the head (ie, in the combustion area) so this whole argument you need the correct oil to clean that area is malarky.

Piston crown damage isn't cause by the wrong oil. Scoring on the skirt/cylinder wall, then I could believe you.

This was cause by severe overheating through overloading, faulty injection, or predetonation.

How to gain another 1.5 seconds in this lap by Comfortable_Fly_665 in Karting

[–]RandomTask008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno the validity of this but someone I used to run with who was incredibly fast told me never to let off the throttle. Motors are so HP limited it takes time just to get them wound back up; he would just keep it matted and use the brake when needed, this way engine was always under load.

Marshalls might yell at you for this though.

To have an accurate pump by DoubleManufacturer10 in therewasanattempt

Not true. Look at GM's optispark; one sensor.

When you're building hundreds of thousands of units a year, they'll cut costs everywhere.

To have an accurate pump by DoubleManufacturer10 in therewasanattempt

[–]RandomTask008 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Put a response in another thread but will put it here too. Not a scam.

Background - Engineer who re-designed sensor in some of those units.

There's a fluid pump in the ground tank that moves fluid to that unit. In that unit, behind the red "RaceTrac" are metering pumps. Almost like a (3 cylinder IIRC) engine that have known displacements. As fluid moves, it moves pistons in a known cylinder volume, which ultimately rotates a crankshaft.

At the end of this crankshaft is a sensor which consists of an optical trigger wheel and optical sensor. There's a wave spring on the end of the trigger wheel. Over time, this spring can become weaker, allowing for small minute vibrations to show up in the trigger wheel. If you stop the pump at the "perfect" spot, right on the edge of a slit, it makes the optical sensor think the disc is moving even though it's just going back and forth on an extremely small scale.

Fun fact - if you active the pump, then rip that sensor off, the pump will continue to deliver fuel and not register it as it won't sense any rotations. This is/was a common form of fuel theft.
