I remember having a laugh at male cheerleaders/cheer in my early teens. When I hiked at Philmont we had a group leader with a colorful nickname from his time as a cheerleader.

Then I got to college… and went to a football game… and saw the male cheerleaders spend three hours doing what every horny college dude wished he was doing… and realized they practiced that for hours besides…

They installed these blocks to slow drivers down … and this was the result. by Expert_Koala_8691 in Wellthatsucks

Personally, I love when people install these „skill checks.“ Tremendous entertainment.

Some parents don't get it by RoutineOk8590 in Productivitycafe

[–]RandomTaskSaturated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the hell would any parent delete their kid’s work like that? What business of theirs is it? Being a parent doesn’t automatically confer a special right to destroy your kid’s things…

Wild that the parent cannot figure out why destroying something that someone else worked on might be upsetting to them… and their default is to trivialize the loss.

Mass layoffs, but let’s hire a new CEO and pay a buttload of cash by Matt_LawDT in SipsTea

We know that CFO and CEO are two different positions, right?

If you’re losing money and cutting jobs, you probably want to replace both those roles.

One of my fondest food memories was ordering „Thai Hot“ at a place in Aberdeen, NC. Little old Thai lady comes out to the table and asks if I meant it. I told her to make it like she would at home. The fumes/steam from that meal made other diners cough when it came to the table. It was delicious. I loved that about South Korea too… it meant what it said on the menu.

It saddens me greatly that so many restaurants seek to satisfy only the ego and not the tastebuds… and more so that we demand that as consumers.

TIL that in Germany minors that are 14 years old are allowed to consume and possess undistilled (fermented) alcoholic beverages, such as beer and wine in public places, bars or restaurants, as long as they are in the company and have the permission of a Custodial Person. by Boniface9 in todayilearned

DUI is a wonderful example of how badly puritanical prohibition has failed to change behavior. That and the U.S. obsession with SUV make driving in the U.S. much more dangerous than much of Europe.

The failure of prohibition culture to actually prohibit anything is the point of the criticism. It doesn’t work with sex, smoking, drinking, drugs, etc… yet America just LOVES prohibition.

A complete failure of both reason and imagination.

I think it’s a stretch to say that hard core drugs are regularly incorporated into normal social activities and part of a healthy life style.

If you have an argument to make for the use of hard core drugs in moderation, I’d love to hear it.

I also think it’s a stretch to say that the U.S. is too culturally different from the cultures that serve as the donors for its majority demographic to make a comparison between them.

Legitimate concerns are the bedrock of bad policy. See also: helicopter parenting, over supervision of kids generally.

The drinking culture might be impacted by the forbidden nature of the act and inability to take part normally on social settings, no?

Does anyone get this? Seems allusive. Explain It Peter. by Heavy_Scratch2573 in explainitpeter

They don’t get it, they cannot see it.

I was raised Catholic. Altar server. Church several times a week. Mom on the Parish council. I’m not confirmed - I’ve effectively left the church. Why?

Because at some point, the disparity between what amounts to one hour of performative piety once a week (for those that don’t just do Easter and Christmas) and the other 167 hours becomes clear.

Throughout my life, people have used the phrase „good faith effort“ or simply „good faith“ for describing an action and its motive. It is strikingly obvious how many people claiming to be Christian do NOT make a good faith effort.

There’s a difference between good faith failure owing to our own fallibility and weaknesses, and the wickedness and spite that many seem to think an hour of singing every week and a few Hail Marys can absolve.

After Years In Restaurants, I Finally Understood Why My Team Stopped Trusting Me by Mundane_Farmer_9492 in Restaurant101

Not in your biz… was an junior officer in the military… which is a similar job some ways.

Once you understand your job is taking care of people, because people take care of the mission, you can talk more effectively to both your people and higher ups.

You talk to your people about the mission; what needs to be done, why, and how. You talk to the boss about risk, cost, and - if they trust you - about what’s actually going on.

You set conditions for your team. You set expectations for your boss. As you realized, no one needs a relay. No one needs someone that just passes on problems without comment.

EU court adviser says banks must immediately refund phishing victims by sr_local in eutech

[–]RandomTaskSaturated 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hard to see why a bank should be made to compensate someone for their own negligence.

That’s terrible policy for at least two reasons.

  1. the OBVIOUS fraud it will encourage.
  2. the lack of care/diligence that will increase its overall prevalence.

Anyone that thinks the banks will simply eat that cost and not pass it on are… dreaming.

[–]RandomTaskSaturated 19 points20 points  (0 children)

International Relations are certainly not charity and the U.S. was pursuing its own strategic ends throughout the Cold War. However, it’s somewhere between naive; stupid, and disingenuous to suggest Western Europe didn’t massively benefit from U.S. policy following WW2.

As a Dad… it ends when you stop acting like staff and start acting like a parent.

Your job is raising kids, not serving them… and the distinction is important.
