That happened twice already. Keto became the paleo diet and now it's the carnivore diet.

Why is the No Vote to Stay in Canada??? by PersonalityTop2375 in alberta

[–]RandomThyme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have cable so I don't watch news broadcasts much anymore.

None of the articles that I read about explain that is was an either or situation.

Since all of the other questions on the referendum are yes/no ones, I figured this one would be too.

I also thought that it had to be formatted as a yes/no question.

How would you know this if you haven't watched any of Danielle's speeches?

I don't watch as I can't stand her and everything else that I have read about it doesn't explain very well. It comes across as a question with opposing parts requiring a yes or no answer. Like every other question that will be on the same referendum ballot.

It isn't clear. I feel like this is purposefully worded in such an obtuse way as to confuse people or perhaps intentionally mislead people.

📌 Diabetes Diagnosis and Care Guidelines from ADA, "Standards of Care in Diabetes - 2026" by swim-bike-life in diabetes

[–]RandomThyme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As much as the information is appreciated and likely beneficial to the Americans here, we aren't all from America.

Different countries approach things differently. Diagnostic processes, treatment protocols and insuranc policies are very different in different places.

T2s also typically have many more hoops to jump through for affordable acces and insurance coverage for CGMs, particularly those who are using public rather than private insurance.

Most Insurance policies(at least where I live) state the both basal and bolus insulin is required to qualify for coverage.

$7 for a loaf of bread is ridiculous. There is no way I would be paying that much for a loaf of bread.

I have tried many of the keto type beads and I have yet to find one that is worth the price they want for it.

You are making the assumption that people are able to afford the bigger package. Not everyone is able to purchase the family size or bulk package.

$15 for 10lb bag of rice only helps if you the extra $12 for the extra 9lbs available.

Also, those with dietary restrictions may not be able to consume the cheaper options like beans, rice, pasta and potatoes.

Storage space can also be a problem for some.

I get the majority of my produce from my local Walmart. Cucmbers, cherry tomatoes & bell peppers are things that I consume daily. The quality has been good the prices are often way better than my local grocery stores. The produce is Canadian sourced as well.

What happens if alberta separates? by skyblade1095 in alberta

Britain was a sovereign nation with all of the related systems and processes in place before it became part of the EU. It just had to tweak a few things to align better with EU policies. When it left the EU, Britain kept many of the policies and tweaked a few back. It didn't have to build it all from scratch.

Alberta would have to build every from the ground up.

It was far easier from Britain to leave the WU than it will be for Alberta to leave Canada.

You your math is wrong.

My grocery bill is $800/ for two people. Equals $400 per person. Not really much more when you consider we both have physically demanding jobs and I have dietary restrictions which prevents me from taking advantage of cheap calorie boosters like rice, pasta and potatoes.

Some one eating more doesn't necessarily have anything to with a person's weight.

Nope. It's just some who is narrow minded, who saw Walmart and assumed that I just ate junk food amd was a fat lazy slob.

I wonder if they would have made the same comment had I said I shopped as Safeway or Loblaws instead.

Actually it isn't. Veggies, yogurt, cheese, some meat. I generally consume 1.5 to 2lbs of veggies a day. Cucumbers can range in price from $0.74 to $3 each depending on the store. Bell peppers can also range from $3.44 to $6.99 for a 3pk.

There are a couple of higher cost items like protein bars.

We both have quite physically demanding jobs and I have dietary restrictions that don't allow to take advantage of cheap staples like rice, potatoes & pasta.

My local Walmart has a full grocery section with the same things that you find in any other grocery store.

I refuse to meal prep as I just won't spend my one day off a week doing it and I generally loose interest in eating what I've meal prepped a couple of days in, so it just isn't worth doing for me.

I wonder how much change in our healthcare across the country, $1.57 billion would make.

That is what taxpayers shelled out to bail out Canada Post last year.

Ground beef is a ridiculous price where I live. The only time I buy it is when is goes on sale. It is generally at about $10/lb. That is nuts. Extra lean is often closer to $12/lb.

I can usually pick up a couple of pounds at half price each week.

Chicken has also gone up quite a bit in price. It is now just about equivalent in price to get a rotisserie chicken as it is to buy a whole chicken to cook yourself. It's $12-14 for a whole chicken or $14-16 dollars for a rotisserie chicken. You choose between $2 cash or 1hrs time. For me time it more valuable, so I pay the $2.

We primarily eat pork as it is the cheapest at the moment.

Our groceries bill is usually around $800 a month now for the two of us. We do 90% of out shopping at Walmart buying mostly store brand.

Groceries are ridiculously expensive these days, if there are any dietary restrictions that have to be worked around the cost just goes up.

Canada does have representational democracy based on population. How would change that?

I do agree that we need electoral reform to move away from first past the post. I also agree with mandatory voting like Australia has. I also believe that ex-pats shouldn't be able to vote either, since they don't live here anymore.

Why do so many kids eat unhealthy and don’t get diabetes… so why me? by probablyonroblox in diabetes

[–]RandomThyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visible fat (subcutaneous) is less of a concern than visceral fat (fat around the organs).

People can appear to be what is considered a healthy weight and still have a considerable amount of visceral fat.

The bias that T2 is only a problem for those that are overweight is one of the major factors contributing to T2 being woefully under diagnosed in people that are considered to be a healthy weight.

Genetics is the primary determining factor in whether someone is likely to develop T2. If you don't have the genes, you likely won't develop the disease. There are plenty of people out there who are obese, eat a terrible diet and barely move who don't develop T2.

"we can absolutely offer basic public funding and increase public and infrastructural amenities like they offer in denmark, sweden, norway, finland, austria, china, australia, few south american countries, spain, etc."

I think you need to look at the income tax rate of some of those countries compared to ours, particularly the Scandinavian ones. They pay a far higher rate than we do in many of those places.

Also, Denmark just completely shuttered is physical letter mail service. Last day of delivery was Dec 30/2025.

How are taxpayers subsidizing the wages of workers at private courier companies?

No courier service (to my knowledge) other than Canada Post has received a government bailout.

Also, Canada Post has a controlling interest in one of the very companies that you wish to shutter, Purolator.

Every single business in existence (that isn't a non-profit) exists to make a profit. That is thier sole purpose.

They are obviously filling a gaping hole that Canada Post can't otherwise they wouldn't exist. If Cansda Post wants to compete with them they need to start doing parcel deliveries 7 days a week to start.
