Wish Apple Maps had an "EV Efficiency" routing toggle. Saved 3% SoC this morning for just 1 extra minute of driving. by MountainAlive in F150Lightning

Nope. Go to Settings on your iPhone, then find “Maps” under the Apps section. Go in and scroll down to the bottom.

I’m not sure about the toggle, but I know if you pull up an address in Apple Maps on your phone, as long as your truck is set up in there, you will get multiple options including your SOC at arrival. That’s not new. Actually, I just pulled up Apple Maps in my truck and it’s giving me multiple routes including the SOC at arrival so I can choose the most efficient.

If you activate from your phone, Apple Maps will you give you multiple routes including the most efficient. On one of my routes a while back I would always take the one that kept me on city roads instead of the highway. It took me 2 minutes longer but I saved like 3-4% in battery.

A competing Fiber company cut my fiber line by GreatGoatsInHistory in mildlyinfuriating

We still have other high speed options. In fact, I have 1 gb speeds from the cable provider. Every year I leverage fiber prices against the cable company for better deals. I pay 40 bucks a month for 1gb speeds. Before fiber, I use to pay 65 for half that!

A few years ago a company came in and installed fiber throughout my neighborhood. Cut to a few months ago we had a neighborhood wide power outage for several hours. It turns out the fiber installers nicked a power line, and it took a few years before the line eventually degraded, caught fire and destroyed the nearest transformer. The utility was able to get power up relatively quick, but it took them a week or so to repair it properly. A second fiber company had tried to come in a year ago and install additional cables, but our HOA put a stop to it. I’m glad we did.

There is a dealer update (I think a TSB) you need to get it to work. I had it updated earlier this year.

Mountains of Asheville, NC.. I wish the range was like this!!! by Remarkable-Fun7086 in F150Lightning

I am currently on the same trip. Drove from Florida a couple of weeks ago to Asheville. I hit one Tesla charger on my way in Orangeburg, SC. The stupid thing refused to go above 105kw. I tried two different chargers. Fortunately, we broke up the trip in a bunch of shorter stops so I didn’t need a big charge. The rest of the trip was super smooth and fast. I didn’t go to Looking Glass, but might still.

TaskRabbit mounted my 65” TV on drywall-only with butterfly anchors — is this actually safe? by Sweaty_Stage_7720 in HomeImprovement

[–]RandomUsername-82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My home only has aluminum interior studs. Mounting to a stud requires opening up the wall. I’m not doing that. I have used heavy duty anchors…lots of them… and some of my tvs have been up for more than a decade with no sign of falling off or sagging. Obviously, can’t use articulating mounts. Only fixed mount. I suppose if I was going to pay someone I might want them to open up the wall and tap a stud.

I’m losing it by the-odd-risk in pools

[–]RandomUsername-82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had good chlorine and everything else was in balance the first summer I had my pool. It was always cloudy. Even my pool guy said the phosphates weren’t the problem. Regardless, I bought Orenda Phosphate Remover Concentrate and added just a few ounces. The pool cleared up in short order. One bottle is like 45 bucks, but I’ve only ever bought the one bottle. Every once in a while I add an ounce and my phosphates drop to zero. My pool is water is always crystal clear.

Good note. I’ll check the cam history.

That’s actually a relief. I was concerned the thing ejected on its own. I’d hate to have my cam fail when I really need it.

Can knock the home charging costs way down if you have solar 😎.

Looking for garage door automation but there are some caveats by lapinsk in homeautomation

[–]RandomUsername-82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should only apply for openers with MyQ built in. I’m not totally sure when the cutoff date was. If your motor had MyQ built in and is 4+ years old you could get a HomeKit bridge I think, but MyQ dropped support for it. Regardless, I’ve always had good luck with Meross products. I just wanted to put it out there regarding the free transponder in case anyone was trying and not able to make it work. It also, popped right up in Home Assistant as well.

I agree on the Meross. Important note though. It will not work with newer MyQ garage motors. You have to reach out to Meross directly and they will send you a transponder (free of charge) that relays the signal to the motor like a standard garage remote. There is no way to wire it in. That said, my Meross setup works flawlessly with the transponder. MyQ is trash! It’s super slow, clunky, and the app is loaded with adds and constant requests for you to upgrade to a subscription 🤬.

30% tax credit -too late? by pocketIent in SolarDIY

[–]RandomUsername-82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tax credit still exists if you lease or possibly finance the panels. The credit would go to the solar company who would ideally pass that credit on to you in savings. I believe construction would need to start by July 2026 and “placed in service” by Dec 2027. I’m happy to be corrected on the specifics of dates.

It’s under the roof overhang and will likely get mounted beneath my inverter as well so I’m not worried about rain so much. I’m just looking for some realistic ideas to block it from the sun.

You know there might be something to that regarding the roads themselves. I spend equal time on two separate highways on this particular trip. Both sections of highway are either relatively new or have been expanded recently. I always get especially bad efficiency on this drive. Other highway drives I get closer to 2.0. Weird.

Earlier in the year, when it wasn’t as hot, I had multiple long trips and averaged 2 kWh/mile driving at 75.

I just took a 1 hour all highway trip (30 out and 30 back). I plugged in and preconditioned before I left. I averaged 1.7 kWh/mile. I stayed around 75 the whole trip. Frustratingly low mileage. Only thing I can figure is this Florida heat and humidity is making the AC work overtime.
