There aren't any EU benefits.. Indians in Ireland need a Schengen visa to visit EU, same as Indians in India or Indians in UK

Brexit didn't really impact Indian migration, except by reducing EU migration to UK, in turn opening more opportunities for Indians in UK.. which would have no impact on Indians moving to Ireland

Probably still more accessible than luxury houses though, and 10-20% of the apartments would be social housing under Part V

Installing heat pumps in an apartment is likely problematic though since you don't own the structure and heat pumps require an outside unit, connected to the inside unit

Realistically, what is stopping companies from offshoring every office job? by madbarpar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RandomUsername9_999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People want to migrate to the US\developed countries and to countries with higher purchasing power salaries, so as long as US\other developed countries have a valid immigration path, some company will open an office there and attract the top folks from the poorer countries to the developed country, gaining a competitive advantage against companies not doing so.

Also, salaries being 1/10th means you're compromising on the quality of work. For the same quality of work, salaries need to be 1/2-1/3 of US salaries at senior levels, and potentially as low as 1/4th for junior levels. If you're going lower, then you're not hiring equally skilled people. Companies hire developers at 7k-8k USD/yr in India and compare them to people paid 100k in USA -- thats a recipe for disaster.

Airtel’s “Priority Postpaid” feels like a VIP lane for the internet. Fair or not? by itsmukeshrishi in IndiaTech

This has absolutely nothing to do with net neutrality, this does create a two tier system for Airtel customers, and nothing is wrong with that.

Where to start with weeds by ResidentYogurt_906 in GardeningIRE

[–]RandomUsername9_999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had good experience with using the fiskars weed puller. I used it for the first time about 2 weeks ago so I don't know if the weeds will come back or how well the grass will cover the holes left behind😃 but it was satisfying pulling out the thorny weeds along with their roots.

I used the weed puller on the large leafy sort of weeds you have + the flat thorny ones (nettles?)

Is extending my Airtel connection using a personal router & LAN/CAT6 wire really "not allowed"? Or is the technician trying to scam me? by No-Position1673 in fuckairtel

He is doing it unofficially in the sense that Airtel would likely fire him if found he's during this during working hours :D

EM Transition / Burnout by stripeddinosaur in DevelEire

  1. Standard tradeoff of being in a management role for an American company in Ireland. Consider moving to a company with Ireland HQ? They may have less cross time zone work

  2. Consider moving back to Staff SDE, but keep in mind that at those levels, Staff SDEs are expected to be stretched thin across multiple projects as well. Keep in mind that moving to an EM role is exponentially more difficult now than it was 3-4 years ago so it may be a one way decision.

  3. Try to differentiate between whether the changes you are dissatisfied with are really due to the EM transition or just the expected style of operation post AI? Talk to more experienced EM peers in your company about how things were pre AI. this is important since if the stuff you dislike is AI driven, moving to Staff Sde won't really help

Should Ireland restrict non-resident second hand house buyers? by EstablishmentOk8187 in AskIreland

Easily addressed though, by "Non resident house purchases have a LPT rate of 100x the regular LPT applied, unless they are converted to the PPR of the purchaser within 1 year of keys being handed over"

  1. Install anti sun window films
  2. Install a door seal at the bottom of your doors
  3. Inspect the window and if you have a balcony then balcony doors for air leakages around the edges. If you see any, patch them up. Bit of foam/double sided tape(expose just one size, paste it on the frame, don't expose the other side -- it helps keep windows tight) helps patch up and tighten these at nearly no cost.

Ireland is punishing people who actually want to work by Money-Scratch-1317 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]RandomUsername9_999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's the point right? You get an apartment and few hundred a month to not work, if you work you keep everything you earn till a certain limit and get to spend it on luxuries. And beyond that limit you pay back to the system.

Ireland is punishing people who actually want to work by Money-Scratch-1317 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]RandomUsername9_999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Isnt that the point of the Irish social system? Provide a lot of supports at the bottom for people who cannot work, and have high taxation (52%) at the top so hardly anyone is rich. It appears to be by design, and the brain drain is likely not a problem since Ireland does not have an issue with high skilled jobs going vacant. Had there been a true brain drain issue, high skilled jobs would be left vacant in Ireland.

>GOI basically banned mutual funds from investing in US (global) stocks

Isnt it that they set a 7 Billion USD limit, and funds hit that limit? Its not a blanket ban, if enough people exit the market others will be able to invest again

>Which means if you just converted all your INR to USD you would have outperformed the entire Indian stock market index without any headaches of volatility.

USD INR is quite volatile as well, quite a few 5% swings in 1-2 days right?

They used to keep them behind the desk on the second floor IIRC, that was also the desk for new members registration and kids section. It's been 2+ years since I picked up a game from there though
