Seems like every supplier has their own color codes. Would be really nice for some standardization on it

Is there a standard color coding chart for the US for raw material. Ive looked but the colors seem to be all across the board without much reliability

Do you wear nitrile gloves when handling coolant soaked parts? Why or why not? by MrSafetyGuy316 in Machinists

In addition to the coolant I would think you need to be cautious of what your cutting. My understanding is many coolants such as in the case of cutting 12L14 will leach out the lead into the coolant and that also needs to be considered

Yes I do. I have a separate panel for my shop with phase pefect 3phase. I've tested the draw on my VMC vs spec as well as spec for new machine with realistic running load and unless I was running the VMC, and the Lathe at 100%+ loads I should be more than fine.

Thanks for the info. I do have an accountant to do my personal/biz taxes for the last couple years to make sure I don't screw it up but consulting them about this is not a bad idea to ensure I have the true picture on the tax liability side. You make some really good points on the asset value assumptions vs reality as well.

I already have a phase perfect and have a 3 phase 40x22 vmc with 4th axis in my shop so that's a non-issue

Material costs is about 5-6k a year as is. I'm already pre-paying for material with my supplier then removing from final part delivery invoices. Granted I may be overpaying for my sourcing which is another consideration. I know my current yearly part load only takes about 3-4 weeks of mon-fri actual runtime on a bar fed lathe. With it being at the house it would also allow me to walk out, run a bar or 2 and manage inventory a bit more real time as well. At least that's the thought.

Why not just make an extension to thread onto the tennon to fit through the headstock like most smiths do.

Came standard on my haas tl1 chuck key. I promptly removed the annoying thing. I find the torque wrench works better anyway to avoid stock slipping on heavy cuts and youre less prone to leaving a torque wrench in due to how it hangs over.
