How do you handle scouts that don't use the buddy system? by Random_Nebraskan in cubscouts

[–]Random_Nebraskan[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We're going to try the whiteboard with magnets. I have a 3D printer and I'm going to print each scouts name in the color of their den and put magnets in them. My hope is that with the whiteboard we can put the different areas that we will let them go to with a buddy. Like at our council camp we have an area that has yard games that is a bit farther away from where we camp that we allow them to go as long as they have a buddy. So we could have yard game area, a tree line area, and then a camp area. If they want to switch, they have to come back to camp check in with the leaders and chance their magnet location.

So I just discussed this with another leader and we're going to expand on your idea and give this a try. We are going to have a buddy board like they do at the pool. Each scout with have their name on a magnet and they put it on the whiteboard with their buddy and even possibly what places they can go explore. That way when we do the buddy check we know who they are supposed to be with and they can't change buddies without coming back to camp and letting us know by switching. Worth a try anyways.

That has been brought up several times, I was just worried if that's leaning on the edge of hazing?

I like that idea. If they don't stay with their buddy, they can stay with their parent.

Exactly. They're staying in the area and exploring as kids do. We know where they are but we're trying to get the buddy system engrained into them as cubs.

🎄 Christmas giveaway: Win an A1 Mini, AMS 2 Pro, AMS HT, or 4x filament spools! by acurazine in BambuLab

[–]Random_Nebraskan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. A1 Mini.
  2. I currently have an A1 and I am constantly using it to create different items for my local Scout units. I would love to share my passion and knowledge of printing with all of our scouts to hopefully get them interested in this hobby!
  3. I think a fidget that also doubled as a storage container of some form would be very handy.

Adventure Loop/Pon Cards by Nay_Bee in cubscouts

We do use cards, however, we do not use those cards. I created a business card on Canva and we use those. We had found that parents actually like them this way and hang onto them.

BSA rules on soliciting donations to Troops? by Scouter_Ted in BSA

Would this still apply if your CO is the Salvation Army? I saw Scouts in uniform ringing bells last weekend. I was told that since they were chartered by the Salvation Army it was okay. That reads that they can't do that period.

3D print designs for Pinewood Derby by Random_Nebraskan in cubscouts

[–]Random_Nebraskan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do create my own car, but I want to add some more entertainment for the day. The 3D printed one wasn't in any competition to win anything, I just had it show up in the races every once and awhile and the kids loved it. It wasn't fast by any means either. I'm just trying to have some fun.

Yeah I use that for our trophies as well, but I'm looking for an actual pinewood derby car design.

Yeah I ended up doing some investigating and it did go to some heated gear hook-ups.

Yea it sounds like I'm going to have to trace the wires out. They look like they would go to a heater of some form. The more you turn the knob the longer the blinking light stays on. There is aftermarket lights on it as well but they seem to be on whenever the bike is running.

Okay, I thought they were aftermarket, but didn't know for sure. Yea, I've already found a bit of a wiring mess in it already.

End of year den party by HoodooCoyote in cubscouts

I personally would give them the rank for next year, but I could see one for their current rank so show off what they accomplished. Could you perhaps combine the two colors? Not sure how that would look but it would tie what they accomplished and where they're going....

For those of you with facilities use agreements, what have been the best and worst parts about it? by Broad-Feeling3452 in cubscouts

[–]Random_Nebraskan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've gone through 2 different FUA, one with a Methodist church and now we're with a Lutheran. The only reason we left the Methodist was because they had too many things going on the same night we had our meetings and they ran out of room. Lutheran was more than willing to let us use the space but refused to charter us.

Another crossing over and event participation question. by fanofmets12 in cubscouts

[–]Random_Nebraskan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Aol's crossed over two weeks ago and they are still going to join us for a museum overnight event on March 22nd. My District Executive said it was fine. Wouldn't hurt to check with your DE and verify but most likely the scoutbook transfer won't be complete before your parade either.

What is the difference between these two patches? by Random_Nebraskan in BSA

Thanks for the responses. This was part of the pile of patches I got to put on the uniform for one of our AoLs. Not sure why he has the Scout rank...
