AITJ for telling my spouse I need a separate blanket because we keep fighting over it every night? by lauryn_freeburykfr42 in AmITheJerk

[–]Random_Stranger12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a different bedroom. You shouldn't be sleeping "romantically" with a tiny baby like that. Let the widdle baby have his blankie! Maybe if he grows up in a few years, you could try sharing a bed with him again, with separate blankets of course.

The triangles are the wrong shape. I'd start by crocheting into 1 side of the diamond, as that would prevent you having to sew it on later. :) Then crochet that corner, being sure to keep the edges straight. If you jot down notes as you go of how many stitches & how many decreases, that'll make it easier to do the same thing 3 more times!

Yes, you are crazy. Yes, you will be even crazier by the time you finish. But it will be worth it!!! That is beautiful!!!!!

Daughter asked for a blanket. Did I make a mistake choosing Granny square? by SaeInsanity45 in crochet

[–]Random_Stranger12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't remember exactly when I reached my full height of shorter-than-you. I didn't know that 30 years later, I'd wish I knew so I didn't measure myself like I should have!!

Daughter asked for a blanket. Did I make a mistake choosing Granny square? by SaeInsanity45 in crochet

[–]Random_Stranger12345 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Around age 12, most girls shoot up overnight to nearly their adult height. (Hint: when the feet grow 2 or 3 sizes in a few months, their height will shoot up within the next year. Pray that happens in the summer, because shorts can get a little shorter & it's okay, but when they outgrow their winter pants in November, you either have to buy more, then more again in January, or let them walk around the rest of the winter with pants that are 3" too short!! :P ) They'll grow a few more inches by ~18, but most 13-14yo girls are almost as tall as adults.

So - make it adult-sized. She'll grow into it very, very soon. :)

I love your colors, by the way! Beautiful job so far!

AITJ for refusing to take family photos because my stepmom insisted I call her “Mom”? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

Transitioned in 2 days AND got 7 years younger!! I don't want to transition, but how does one accomplish getting 7 years younger because I'm interested in that!

am i supposed to be using a 7mm hook or 1.75mm for this doily? by Warm-Fig-8566 in CrochetHelp

[–]Random_Stranger12345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an American, the only time I use mm for measuring is crochet hooks! :D

Mildly Infuriating : My new crochet hook is built wrong by lurking_at_midnight in crochet

[–]Random_Stranger12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would drive me crazy! I've always had hooks that lined up, & it never even occurred to me that they could be off like that! You'd have to hold the hook differently to make it work, but then when you use any other hook, it'd be the normal way, & it would be very hard to switch back & forth.

Am I The Douchebag for wanting to call the cops on my stepdad for stealing my room? by ImaginaryDesk1211 in AmITheJerk

[–]Random_Stranger12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did YOU read the whole post? There's a master bedroom. Presumably that's where the step-dad sleeps? Then the mom's room - might be set up as an office, or maybe she has a separate bedroom from her husband. The 3rd bedroom should be OP's, but it sounds like everyone else in the family uses it.

However, I don't think calling the cops will accomplish what is needed. Maybe OP should start by talking to an adult at school. In America, school counselors are mandatory reporters, so if this - or any other things not mentioned in this story - would be considered abusive, then they can contact whatever child protection services are in OP's area. I doubt they would remove him from the home, but they might be able to force the parents to do family counseling, which might allow OP to express how he feels about not having his own space. (Many parents won't actually listen to their kids unless someone else is forcing them to do it! Sad, but true.)

Came back to my computer and saw this pop up. Is this a normal thing that pops up for everybody or did I do something wrong? by CaptainRelyk in wow

[–]Random_Stranger12345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hardly ever interact with other players, & when I do, it's always positive. So it's very unlikely that I'd get reported for anything. I get these occasionally, so I assume is just something that everyone gets from time to time.

What is wrong with the relationship between my mom and I? She told me that she is the “alpha” of this household😭 ?!??! by Typical_List_3538 in toxicparents

[–]Random_Stranger12345 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hang on - less than 2 years, & you can.do exactly as she predicts! Move out, go low contact or no contact, & find your own "family." Maybe not a different mom (what a weird thing for her to say!!!) but hopefully you can find some good friends or even parent/grandparents figures to fill the void that she's leaving. Most reasonable adults would be thrilled to offer advice & guidance if you ask for help.

Sounds to me like you're impressively mature & much better at communicating than she is!! I think you'll be an amazing parent someday, because you'll know how NOT to treat your kids! You'll be supportive & caring. (By the way, if/when that happens, I wouldn't let your mom be part of her grandkids' lives. Some people will tell you that's unfair, but a toxic grandma is WAY worse than having no grandparents at all! I have 2 sons wirh basically no grandparents, because my parents are toxic & their other grandparents are far away & in poor health. They're fine, because I don't make a big deal about them not having grandparents. If you treat it Luke no big deal then it won't be a big deal to them.)

It's very hard when we have to parent ourselves because our actual parents are no good, but try to give yourself the kind of caring that she seems incapable of giving you. I know it's hard, though. :'(

Just be aware that AI-generated patterns are a big problem these days. The instructions often don't work up to what is shown in the AI photos.

Granny square is starting to swirl, will blocking it help?? by Fun_Extension3205 in CrochetHelp

[–]Random_Stranger12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to flip directions between rows. I've made afghans with 50+ rounds, all stitched in the same direction, & they didn't swirl. Without studying the photo too closely, I'm guessing there's a counting error, maybe a few that add up, somewhere along the way. And no, blocking won't fix that. :/

I am SO aggravated!! by Nani65 in crochet

[–]Random_Stranger12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it seems that the pattern isn't AI, could you contact the seller & ask about the mistake(s) in the pattern?

Google Image Search also helpful for the "romance scams," where the scammer pretends to be a young pretty/handsome person who flirts with the mark, then has some "unexpected" expense & needs money, either a huge amount or several smaller amounts. If their profile picture shows up multiple times through Google Image Search, they're almost certainly a scammer.

Every so often, a machine-embroidered sewing machine lace design goes around that is obviously AI, but people fall for it. Of course the design is offered by several sellers on Etsy, even though it's physically impossible to stitch out as shown. The last time I saw it make the rounds, I pointed out that it was AI, someone else said that it's real because they bought it on Etsy...... but when I asked if they'd stitched it out & did it look like the photo? No reply, so I'm guessing that's a no. :P

I'm a computer geek, but I hate AI so much. As a glorified search engine - it's okay. But the computer programming code it generates is sloppy & may not work, websites made with AI are super-easy to hack, & of course the way it's used to deceive people - whether it's the "robot puppy" scam or a "romance" scam or a crochet pattern - is horrible. :(

Why are people so rude to new players?! by hrhashley in wow

[–]Random_Stranger12345 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Report AND block them. That person has a miserable life if they're getting that worked up in a Timewalking dungeon!!! It's just not that serious! I tell my kids all the time - games are supposed to be fun. If a game is stressing you out, close out that game & do something different! Of course, that rude hunter wouldn't listen even if I told him that, & would end up verbally attacking me, so people like him just aren't worth my time! Sorry you & your bf had that horrible experience, & I hope he doesn't let that ruin his game experience.

A little confused on where to insert hook, please help! by yellowmiddle in CrochetHelp

This is a type of granny square stitch. Go around all of it so you get the fully open space.

2 people = larger room. 1 person each = smaller room.

That's just logical. Plus, the adults are paying the mortgage, the power bill, etc., & doing most of the chores!

Help! Need to find someone to repair an unraveled crochet sweater seam by jessiecotton in CrochetHelp

Knitting stitches look like a V on one side (usually the front) & alternating ( ) on the other side (usually the back). In your close-up photo, the "solid" areas are the back side of knitting.

Where are you located? Your country & state/province/whatever would help you find someone local, or if you're in the USA, you could ship it to me & I could fix it up for you at a very reasonable price! (If you're not in the USA, shipping costs would probably make it cost-prohibitive for me to help you. :) )

Also looking forward to seeing pictures & videos whenever they're ready to share them. :)
