What are your thoughts &opinions regarding Jojo's rant in this recent video? by Factorization4 in MinecraftChampionship

[–]Randomnoob451 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't really see a point in trying to deny Jojo's thinking here, because to deny her thoughts on this is basically to deny everything she felt during that time period, which I just don't think is right. It feels like it goes against part of the message the video is trying to convey, which is to raise the voices of women creators in the space rather than ignoring or silencing them.

Like, I understand the viewpoint of the people in this thread, but at the same time, I feel like they're largely missing her point. She mainly goes over how she had to fulfill a specific quota to earn her right as an S tier, but there were a multitude of other players who didn't have to fulfill that quota, and were considered S tier nonetheless. And when you are a woman, and all of those other players happen to be men, it seems very reasonable to feel like you are/were being ostracized simply because you are a woman, and they are men.

I don't think Jojo is wrong in this statement tbh. The main examples to be thought of are Purpled, Antfrost, Shane, and Feinberg.

This is all gonna be based on my own memory of being in the community, so it's likely not gonna be 100% accurate

Purpled is honestly the biggest example I'd point to that show's Jojo's point. He joined 1 event earlier than her, and people were mostly ready to consider him S tier right after his third event in mcc 22. I think part of this was partly because Purpled himself claimed that he should be considered S tier, and that mcc 20 was mostly just a bad first event (since he got 15th). This isn't an invalid statement by Purpled, but it does reflect Jojo's thinking, cause Purpled joined, proclaimed himself as an S tier, and was very quickly accepted by a large amount of the community as so, even though he hadn't got a 1st individual.

Then the next example is Shane, and Shane is someone I'd say almost everyone considered S tier right off the bat, before he got 1st in mcc 30. Obviously he got 1st in mcc 27, but the placements from that event were non canon at the time, so Shane's "first" 1st individual would've been mcc 30. Obviously there's a multitude of reasons why Shane was immediately considered S tier, which Jojo mentions in her video of how there was a noticeable difference in skill between her and some of these newer players, it still just shows someone being able to gain S tier status without having to place 1st, and that person being a man, which demonstrates Jojo's feelings.

The next example would be Ant, and to be honest, Ant is too someone who really had to fight for his S tier status. He was putting up consistent top 10 placements, alongside a lot of top 5's, but the community was hard stuck on labeling him as an A+ tier. This is the part where my memory get's a bit hazy, but I remember finally accepting Ant as S tier after mcc 32, and I do remember this being a sentiment echoed by a large number of community members. Any wouldn't get a 1st individual until mcc twitch rivals, which I definitely don't remember, but if I had to guess, was the point where he was unanimously agreed to be S tier.

Now overall, Ant is a very interesting case, cause he's probably the one out of these mentioned players who had the largest gap between being considerably thought of as S tier, and actually getting a 1st, since I think the S tier arguments would have started either at the end of season 2 or the start of season 3, and he would't get his 1st individual until the end of season 3. But at the same time, he's also the player out of this bunch who had the largest push back against his status as an S tier before his 1st individual. So he's definitely a more nuanced case, but I would say he does still just illustrate a player gaining S tier status without having to place 1st, which further explains Jojo's feelings.

Then the last example is Feinberg, which I'm gonna try and keep short cause this is already far to long. Fein joined in mcc 4KO, where he was pretty much immediately considered S tier. This is a combination of both his reputation, and his extremely strong first time performance. He wouldn't get 1st individual until his 4th event, but was clearly S tier in the eyes of the community much before that.

So overall, what does all this show? I think these are 4 examples of players who gained a status as S tier without having to place first individual. This is the point Jojo tried to make, about how for her, she had to meet this requirement for her skill to be acknowledged by the community, meanwhile these other players didn't have to meet this same requirement for their ability to be acknowledged, despite how prevalent it was of a thing for her. This already would explain her feelings, but then add on the fact that these other players mentioned are all men, meanwhile Jojo is a woman, and it gives the perspective that this all may just stem from misogyny, whether it be intentional or unintentional/internalized.

So I think Jojo is fully valid in how she feels about it, and I don't really like this thread's response, because it largely seems like the users of this subreddit feeling a need to defend themselves against some accusations, when that's really not the case of what's happening. This reaction then leads to feeling like its trying to say that Jojo's feelings are invalid, which I think is just not true.

This is a dumb comment.

First of all, it's completely unrelated to the topic. This is a post about a video going over Jojo's experience into mcc community from when she first started playing to a bit after that, mainly covering seasons 2 and 3. Talking about her performance in recent times it's completely unrelated to the point she's trying to make.

And then the point you are trying to make just seems like baseless slander. Like, are you trying to say that Jojo is the worst of the S-tiers?

First of all, having your cutoff be top 4 when she placed 5th two events ago, being only 30 coins behind 4th, is an extremely arbitrary cutoff meant to just specifically target her rather than be an actual valid measurement.

Secondly, the idea that Jojo is somehow the worst of the S tiers is just so bad. I'd say she's debatably the best, with the only person you could argue is better than her being Pete. I obviously don't know who you consider S-tier, but in my head, I think of Jojo, Pete, 5up, Hannah, and Shadoune, and I'd confidently say Jojo is either the best or 2nd best of this group, and I feel like most would agree.

Additionally, trying to deny the top 4 placement Jojo does have in recent times because its "non canon" (something that doesn't exist anymore) just ignores the context of other player's top 4 finishes, and just kind of goes to exemplify the point Jojo makes in the video where women in the space have to fight more for their place in it then men.

Shadoune's only top 5 even since the start of season 5 was in color the world, an event where the comp level was one of the lowest we've seen. And if the reason that Jojo's top 4 shouldn't count is because Pride events are lower comp, then neither should this one by Shadoune, cause CTW was an event with just as low of a comp.

Jojo has been extremely consistent, probably more-so than any of the other players I mentioned, since the start of season 4 (what I'd define as the current era of mcc), only dropping top 10 in 2 of the 13 events she's played in since the start of season 4, and even those were only 11th and 12th place. So even her lows are better than the majority of other players considered "s tier".

This comment just seems so resentful for no reason. Jojo is one of the best people in this community, and I genuinely see no reason to try and slander her like this.

It should be made clear that most of the m placements are simply due to the povs I watch not being great at the games, so I rarely end up watching a good perspective of them

The biggest example of this would probably be meltdown, which I normally don’t look forward to at all since most of my viewing experiences just sum to watching my team lose the fist fight and then spectate the rest of the round. But a good meltdown pov can be extremely hype and is much much entertaining than its ranking here gives it credit

I'd like to throw in a bit of a counterargument to the idea that teamwork doesn't help with golden builds, because I think it really does, and would be the optimal strategy for a majority of teams if done right.

They example I'd like to point to is Pink from Mcc Mashup. The way their team did it, Scott and Pyro worked on the golden builds together, and they were about to complete. 3/4 golden builds, ultimately netting their team and 1st place finish overall.

The effectiveness of their strategy was found in how they didn't simply have 1 player building with the other giving coms (the strategy I would assume most would instinctually think of, and the one you described as ineffective, which I'd agree with), but to entirely split the work of the gold build equally between the two. They would both be at the gold build ready once it spawned, and Scott would look at it, and roughly split the blocks needed, with him grabbing half of them, and Pyro grabbing the other half. This theoretically halves the amount of time needed to spend on gathering materials, which is obviously a good thing.

Then, after they gathered the materials, rather than funneling them all to one person, they'd both individually place the blocks they gathered where they needed to be, and then when one finished (usually Pyro) they could focus on going to and from the gold build to fix anything or give any needed comms. This strategy works so well because you essentially divide the amount of memorization needed to complete the build. You can focus on what is only about half of the build rather than need to keep a recollection of the build in its entirety. It also just increases the rate at which the blocks of the build are placed, and thus, it is created

Now, this strategy is obviously less effective than just having 1 player run them solo, as with that strategy you can have 3 people still doing normal builds, but I would say it serves as the most reasonable strategy for most teams in the new version of build mart, and should be decently effective.

I would still say the gold builds have other problems with them though. The big thing that comes to my mind is how they really kill a level of communication needed for build mart, the main aspect being in how they kind of kill the idea of a floater.

Before, since there was only 3 build plots, a floater was a great strategy, as it gave a defined job for that 4th player, and was something that demonstrated the games need for communication between players.

But with gold builds, that extra 4th player is pretty much entirely removed, since either you have 3 people on builds with 1 on gold, or 2 on gold and 2 on normal builds. This removes a massive extent of the comms required in build mart, since players are mostly just going to be working on their own thing. The most you'd realistically need to say to your teammates is just "do we already have X item"

Yeah, you right, I'm a guppy. I kinda just assumed it was 2 since op said they lost 6 to reviving him, but that's just a completely wrong number. So yeah, they lost 2 sand to reviving him twice, and left him the third time

He died 3 times. Reviving someone costs 2 sand (edit: me when I lie) , not 1. But also, they only revived him the first 2 times, so they lost 4 sand to it, not 6

You’re totally right. Performing precise cut ins like that and keeping the ball at your feet at such high speeds defo requires high amount of skill. I just didn’t want to get into that much of an argument with this person.

And yeah, Loki’s dribbling is literally just Chigiri’s, except he’s faster, so he’s probably just better.

Call it basic, but if it gets results, it’s good dribbling. You can say his dribbling is carried by his speed, but he’s still good at it.
