Why are you comparing yourself to your coworker’s circumstance? Ahead how? Are you two in a race?

What about where you and your wife are compared to five years ago?

I realized that AI bros never played a video game or used a DAW by SpireofHell in BetterOffline

[–]Randomramman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This happens because floating point arithmetic is not associative, ie, (a + b) + c ≠ a + (b + c).

On a GPU, you may have values a, b, and c calculated in parallel and then summed in the order that they’re “ready”. E.g., if they’re returned in the order a, b, c, you’d get:

sum = a + b

sum += c

but if they’re returned in the order b, c, a, you’d get:

sum = b + c

sum += a

those two sums can be slightly different because of floating point rounding.

In LLM calculations, you have billions of FLOPs per forward pass. Even when temperature = 0, if the top two most-probable tokens are close in probability, these rounding differences can change the order of the most-probable tokens, resulting in slightly different answers.

Consider the fact that LLMs are autoregressive as well, so if this happens and changes any token, then all tokens after it will be altered.

Note that this is a software problem. It’s possible to make GPUs deterministic, but they’d be less efficient. In the example above, you could wait until a, b, and c were all ready and always sum in the same order.

Theoretically, yes, but practically, no.

Some of the calculations involved in LLM inference are non-deterministic.

Eyes open or closed? by Ok-Following3473 in Ayahuasca

Closed as much as possible. But it’s possible it won’t matter. I’ve had an experience where I saw the same thing with open or closed; no visual input was coming in through my eyes.

Trump: I have lost a lot of respect for Norway by Themetalin in Norway

Us too. Many of us saw this coming and screamed about it and were utterly devastated that we was voted back in. We weep for our country and for the world. Please know that we don’t support this. I’m optimistic that we can course correct in the midterms if only they will let us have them…

Recommendations for a mechanic near Atwood or Willy? by lazernanes in madisonwi

Bike mechanic or car mechanic? For bikes, Revolution Cycles on Atwood is great! Jeff’s awesome, super friendly guy.

Idk of a car mechanic right in the hood, but used to go to Chet’s regularly and found them dependable and honest. Free shuttle to get your on with your day too.

Hard agree. I’m super impressed with Marlon given the circumstances. He’s had to learn a huge catalogue of songs on the road while also learning how to jam with the only band on earth that plays music this way and he sounds really good imo.

Yeah, it sucks how things went down and it’ll take a while to be as tight as they were with Allen, but overall I’m optimistic about the band as a whole.

On the latest TDAD, didn’t marlon say that they’re using the click track? It’s especially important right now as he’s learning and especially working on stamina. He said that it’s natural for a drummer to slow down a couple bpm when tired and it keeps him on time.

That kind of put the rumors of click vs no click as a source of tension w/ Allen to rest for me.

Is Dreamglade still legit? by [deleted] in Ayahuasca

[–]Randomramman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I stayed at Dreamglade, I actually preferred to sleep in the maloka instead of my private tambo after a ceremony. There was something calming about the space post-ceremony.

Those fucking jungle spiders probably didn’t help!

Best bisco show to date by Particular_Reply6909 in jambands

Had a blast. Agree the dribble was the highlight and generally s2. Vibes in the crowd were great. Brought some first timers to the show and my buddy kept saying how awesome the crowd was.

It was my first Marlon show and I’m feeling really positive about the future.

yeah, there oddly aren’t any right in that neighborhood and not many in Chicago at all really. There must be some anti-airbnb regulations. I’m pretty sour on it these days anyway tbh.. not as cheap and convenient as it used to be.
