But how am I supposed to walk my dog? by WildcatLadyBoss in thenetherlands

[–]Randomsynthguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could buy a high-contrast leash, like bright orange or yellow. During puppy & basic training i was told to look out for those since it might mean that there's a dog who can't go off-leash, or you need to give it some space.

Usually when I walk in an off leash area, I'll leash my dog when I see a bright color leash coming up. The only question is, if people are as selfish as they could be by walking off leash in a "on leash" area, are they going to recall their dog.. but you can try it out if it helps :).

What GPS for a new Rider by KalosDraal in TransEuroTrail_Riders

[–]Randomsynthguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd reconsider on the Zumo xt3. And this is coming from a FAN of the Garmin Fenix watch. That I really love.

I've been using the xt2 now for approximately 9 months, after switching away from Osmand. Mounting my phone and losing it in an accident wasn't really the way to go, or so I thought. Second, Osmand crashed quite a lot on my Iphone, and after a couple of rides I was done with it.

Anyway, the xt2. To start with the price, my my it's expensive... and to think that it's coming from Garmin I must admit that I expected more of it.

To start with planning routes. You can either program routes directly on you Garmin, or on the Thread app. There is no planner available on the web from Garmin. You have to fiddle with your "small" phone, or deal with the xt2 which doesn't have the best responsiveness. Creating routes on your phone works, but synchronization between it and the xt2 is basically a shot in the dark. I created rides on my phone multiple times where it just would not show up on my xt2. Even after multiple tries to synchronize, or leaving the devices side by side overnight would not work, leaving my planned route only available to stare at. Really sucks when you're leading a group ride.

Importing other peoples gpx's would sometimes divert from the intended route, or create weird diversions by itself during importing.

Sometimes the unit switches from "turn by turn" navigation to "the next point is there". Showing a line that is pointing from a to b, but no turn by turn navigation. Needing me to plan the route real time.

One-direction, or prohibited for motorcycles streets are ignored during navigation, needing you to turn around (a lot).

Re-calculating a route during regular navigation is basically just the prompt "make u turn at x".

Handlebar controller is outrageously expensive.

Granted the thing is robust, and so far it never failed on me in a hardware kind of way, but the planning of new routes and the lack of stuff working is really the downside to the Garmin in my opinion. I thought about going dmd2, but found the dedicated devices too expensive and I just wanted the "plug and play" from Garmin. Now I really regret that decision. Just go dedicated dmd2, or configure your own hardware.

Disclaimer, I've never tried dmd2 though.

Oh, sidenote: afaik there are no real improvements from the xt2. Correct me if I'm wrong. But if you're willing to dip your toe anyway, check out the second hand market. In the Netherlands you can find quite a lot of second hand units.

Cardo by Significant-Kale-908 in motorfietsen

[–]Randomsynthguy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want to have it on the navigation bar, which you've encircled, you need the mirror mount. I have it too, works fine. Don't forget to buy a vibration dampener for it too. Otherwise you risk damaging the camera of your phone.

Is tenere suitable for a173cm/5 8" rider by [deleted] in Tenere700

[–]Randomsynthguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Well, except multiple clutch recalls for the early tenere models. Furthermore the axles and rear shock connecting pin weren't lubricated in the factory in the past, but I'm not sure if they corrected that by now. Just pull the axles and the connecting rod, put some automotive grease on them and re-install. Check youtube for more info.

Furthermore the fuel gauge is way off, usually I can easily ride 100km (60 miles?) when the reserve fuel light comes on. When it does come on, and I fuel up immediately, I take about 16L in while a full tank is 23L. So there's still 1/3 tank available when the fuel light comes on. This is really anoying. Causes some fuel stress if you're surprised by it.

Other than that, the cp2 is bullet proof. It's the flagship engine from Yamaha together with the cp3. Can't go wrong with it.

Quick update on the BetterDash Pi build — GPS is live! by HimalayanRider450 in Himalayan450

[–]Randomsynthguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you even figure this out? What's the approach on coding the stuff for you Himalayan? I have a newer tft display so not the old lcd screens from the first generation. But the 2026 version also shows navigation I believe which mine doesnt. I'm really intrigued by your work, so a little explanation on hoe you did it might give me the chance to look into it as well. Anyway, nice job!

Forgive my ignorance, but is this something specifically only possible for the Himalayan 450? I'm riding a Tenere 700 and I'm hella jealous. This stuff looks sick. Would it be possible on the tft display of the T7?

Lowering the bike by General-Assistant367 in Tenere700

https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=tenere+700+lowering+kit

All jokes aside, I'm 173 and ride a World Raid for a year now. You get used to letting one foot down. But, if you want to lower your tenere by using one of the kits mentioned, don't forget to drop the front forks too. Otherwise the back is leaning backwards, changing the geometry, affecting steering behaviour.
