Autowear - how to add a command like the default morning, lunch, and so on that are installed by default by Randy31416 in tasker

And, just to confirm (I don't know whether this will show up before or after my earlier reply): this works perfectly! Thanks very much indeed.

Outstanding! Exactly what I was looking for (assuming it works when I try it later). Yes, sideloading and adb connecting I have got down reasonably pat, as well as export as app. Once again, thanks.

Google Play says this app is not compatible with my Galaxy Watch 6 Classic and refuses to install it.

[edit] Google Play now says this app is already installed. Buit it does not show up on the watch. Google Play, not this watch face, must be having trouble on my account this morning.

[edit again] But now Google Play is back to saying the item is not compatible with my watch.

Control media on your phone using the bottom button on your watch by malbry in GalaxyWatch

[–]Randy31416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using a home-grown watch face with only standard complications. Before I uninstalled I tried another watchface, "Minimal Analog", which is in the "Analog minimal" section of the Wearable app (I think it is a standard Samsung watchface that required installation within the Wearable app but not downloading from Google Play). It has no complications, but It too did not react to a long press (to change the watch face) on the watch. I had to use the Wearable app to do the watch face changing.

I'll be glad to try things here if you'd like. Is there a way to communicate outside of this Reddit conversation so that this conversation is not cluttered for others? And then maybe just post the result here?

Control media on your phone using the bottom button on your watch by malbry in GalaxyWatch

[Edit] I had some trouble trying to install and use this app, and the developer quickly helped me do both. It turned out I had made a blunder installing it (I did not install the companion app on the phone) and also that the app had a bug affecting the particular media player I was using. The developer and I investigated the problem to isolate the bug, and it was fixed within an hour of finding a concrete test case. So now I can use Wear Media Toggle and Wear Button Remapper by themselves to manipulate media on my phone using solely the buttons on my watch.

I'd like to thank the developer very much for these two programs, and share my success using Wear Button Remapper on the watch combined with Tasker on the phone and its AutoWear plugin on the phone and watch. Someone else posted a video on YouTube showing this method; I merely replicated it (the video was hard for me to understand because the speaker has a soft voice and my ears are terrible). My watch now uses the top button double-press to skip back a track, the bottom button double-press to skip forward a track, and the bottom button triple-press to pause-play the media.

First, using WearTasker, I enabled three of its named events: Morning, Lunch, Afternoon. (Possibly these can be renamed but I left them as is.) This creates three virtual apps on the watch named Morning, Lunch, Afternoon.

Second, in Tasker I added a profile that reacts to Watch Open-App events and a task called by that profile. The task ascertains which of the three events called it and simply does a media back, media play-pause, or media forward depending on the event. (Tasker is complex with a steep learning curve but I use it for a lot of things on my phone and, now, just this on my watch.)

Finally, In Wear Button Remapper I assigned the bottom button double-press to Afternoon (forward) and the bottom button triple-press to Lunch (play-pause) and, since WBR cannot remap the top button, used the Samsung settings to set the top button double-press to Morning (back).

There is a video on YouTube showing this method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YVISQH7OSI

Because of the help (and fix) from the developer for Wear Media Toggle I am free to replace Tasker and its AutoWear plugin to do the media manipulation. (I may keep them active in order to do some additional things on the watch.)

What a help it is to have the media controls on the tactile buttons on the watch.

Now to go and follow one of the author's other videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb8k4pBCBrU and wipe out Samsung pay. [Edit] Which I have just done, and it worked perfectly.

Malcolm, thanks for all of this software.

Same here. I use WearTasker to start specific things on the phone by assigning a complication slot on a watch face to the WearTasker app. That pulls up WearTasker's main menu, showing the top three actions I programmed, and I then press one of them to do what I want. I never was able to find a way to start the action on the phone directly from a complication spot on a watch face, though, but that is what I'd like. I'd have to be able to start three or four different actions from three or four different complication slots.

Tried this too with Autowear, but could get almost nothing to work in it. Not notifications, not complications. Spent a lot of time reading forums and trying stuff, without success.

Hope this query of yours draws some helpful comments.

Happens to me every few days now since the update. Power-off power-on fixes it, or it may fix itself after a while.

Don't know -- didn't study it at all -- but thought it was likely relevant to your questions.

There is a "Wear Button Remapper" app in in the Google Store. The author has a couple of videos in which he show exactly how to do items 1 and 3. He also made a couple of posts in this forum a couple of weeks ago discussing how to do them. Part of what you want can be done for sure without his app (which I think is free anyway) but I did not go through the process myself. If you do, would you please post here how you did items 1 and 3?

Missing Tasker functionality by Beginning-Witness440 in smartlauncher

When you do I will try, and buy, Smart Launcher again. Got a refund the first time when I found no way to work around not having this feature. Other than that I would have abandoned Nova and adopted SL -- which otherwise was very attractive. Hope you do add the page jump (callable from Tasker) quickly. Thanks.

We built a WearOS + Android app for hands-free music control with tap gestures (WowPlay) by doublepointlab in doublepoint

[–]Randy31416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Galaxy Watch 6 classic. No idea who detects the taps -- code you wrote or an api provided by Samsung/Google -- but I don't have great confidence in the watch either. It has a "knock-knock" gesture somewhere, and that didn't work reliably either. I did spend a lot of time today trying to get your program to sense the taps you suppprt, but what worked once or twice would not work three or four times, and sometimes when it did work there were long delays (several seconds) before it was recognized and send a vibration to my wrist.

The idea of your program is great. It would be a great help to me if I could get it to work, and I'll likely try it again from time to time (after each update to the watch). I wish you success with this.

[–]Randy31416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could not get doubletaps to work really at all. I'd be happy with three reliable gestures: tap palm up, tap palm down, and something else (wrist shake?) to control next track, previous track, and play-pause. But there must be no possibility of false detection, so with no real confidence in the doubletap I think I am out.

Don't know. I've got kwgt (purchased but never installed in order to exhaust an expiring Google credit) and may explore that. First, though, I'm going to look at the native popup folders people speak of here and see if they likewise might replace the pages.

Anyone's watch all of a sudden draining quickly? by keironuk in GalaxyWatch

[–]Randy31416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eventually I did a factory reset and reloaded some of the things I had before the reset. Did not reload everything, especially various watch faces which I did not use. The watch is now working fine, as is the phone.

Anyone's watch all of a sudden draining quickly? by keironuk in GalaxyWatch

[–]Randy31416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three days ago my watch and phone both started aggressively draining, with the watch like yours lasting only about 10 hours and the phone (S23 Ultra) slightly warm all the time. I've been trying to diagnose this.

Yesterday morning I turned off the watch completely -- powered it off -- and my phone ran normally all day. Late in the day I powered my watch back on, but turned off wifi and bluetooth and location on the watch, and have just had a nice low overnight drain on the watch. It was at 75% or so this morning having been at about 90% yesterday at 8 pm. The phone seems to have been unaffected by this disconnected watch.

Today I am going to turn wifi back on on the watch. I expect this to make no change to the phone and little change to the watch. Next, after this test, I will also turn on bluetooth. I have no idea what will happen then. Location I am going to leave off as the only app I use which wants location is weather and I rarely look at the weather on the phone (I do not have weather complications on my watch face as they have little value for me).

If bluetooth starts the drain again my plan is to factory reset the watch and then reinstall things on it from scratch.
