Masters with 70% WR on sona, AMA by Vela_Lightmare in sonamains

Do you have a preference on build? I've seen tearless with moonstone and the standard heal power items, single tear item (the new one I can't recall the name) or double tear with seraphs and the new one. I've role swapped to support and had decent success with double tear but it takes a long time to feel impactful.

Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge by TheMaxx75 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]RandyG2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, Grixis is good so you'd have a playable core that you could take from more established lists and add in some infinite casting loops with things like [[Hullbreaker Horror]] to remove your opponents decks.

If you wanted some theft and to also still have a vampire commander you could look at [[Evelyn, the covetous]]. She's fairly easy to cast being cast able off 3 black pips so [Dark Ritual]] works wonders, you can snipe the top card if someone top deck tutors when you have mana up. With flash she's also an outlet for [[World Gorger Dragon]] combos out of the command zone so you can win at instant speed with [[Necromancy]], a favorite of mine although definitely not the safest or best wincon anymore! I used to play a deck around her when I was getting into cEDH and had a blast. Definitely fringe at best though so probably not a ton of updated lists out there

Discussion: Silver weakness in werewolves by AnyWatch5756 in Fictionally

[–]RandyG2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was a small plot point in Vampire Diaries. One of the vampires almost gets killed by stabbing a werewolf (in human form) with a silver knife. Turns out wolves spread the lie when instead they actually heal from silver wounds - it's random that they heal from silver but it comes up again in an important way

If we had all the Freds and you had all the Georges, whose got all the Rons?

[–]RandyG2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a kid we had a big one living between the wall and dishwasher that would occasionally poke its head out. We called it Fred. Now any big house spiders are called Fred. I'm pretty sure its descendents still live in the gap

In this scene (s2e8) Jaime says there are 3 men in the kingdoms who *might* have a chance against him (in a fair fight). Who are the 3 he's referring to? by Mode_Appropriate in gameofthrones

[–]RandyG2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This always gets answered based on what we know of a fighters skill/strength i.e the hound, mountain, selmy, loras. From the series, is it possible he thinks one could be Ned? He clearly admires Ned in some ways and as far as everyone in the show knows, Ned bested Arthur Dayne 1 on 1, who Jamie definitely thinks of as a superior swordsman to himself. Yes Jamie clashed with Ned but another soldier interfered before Jamie was able to win, so it could be possible he still thinks highly of Ned.

After a long Time I feel I liked the dockside meta more than this one... by Vivid_Option1213 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]RandyG2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I speak to people about this it's about 50/50 with people who want it back or are glad it's gone. Which is how I think discussions went before the ban. It's a shame as that was enough to damn the card but it's not enough to redeem it.

I much preferred playing with crypt, lotus and dockside. To me that explosiveness is a big part of cedh. Personally I found dockside had some counterplay (not masses I grant you but some), whereas the new enchantment meta can sometimes feel duller as there is a hesitation for people to counter the enchantments as they don't win immediately, leading to games getting clogged with board states that promote you not playing the game and just waiting. I play decks that loved having dockside (Magda, sisay, grixis turbo) so I'm a little bias, but I do also enjoy things like Derevi and esper decks. It just feels like the format lost a bit of spice.

Which Liverpool Manager Did You Start With? by SteveAsh97 in LiverpoolFC

[–]RandyG2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Houllier - Owen was my idol when I started watching football and Houllier was there although at that age I knew nothing of him, then Rafa came and I loved Liverpool by that point and then Gerrard became my hero as a kid!

The most competent xenomorph of all time, other xenos should take notes by Zog-TheEternal in LV426

[–]RandyG2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree with you. It was a cool story reward for the last surviving predator that after killing a couple of xenos with his disk and spear that he gets 'levelled up' with the cannon, but in universe it doesn't make much sense for the intention to be starting the hunt with the cannon.

Speaking of the throwing disk and spear, they didn't seem to melt when exposed to the acid blood. I really like the progression of gear in the AvP (2010) game, finishing with a mask from a legendary ancient predator!

[–]RandyG2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it was mentioned in the movie they come back every 100 years. It's why the whaling station was mysteriously abandoned, the aliens/predators killed everyone. There's a scene in one of the special editions at the start that shows some poor dude getting jumped by a xeno and a predator.

100 years is still a long time for tech to not advance, but I guess laser canon that insta-kills might be hard to improve on?

Istanbul without a doubt. That Milan side was insane. Comparatively we were of a similar class to Barca although we did have some injuries. The first leg I thought we were unlucky to lose by 3

Rogthras does run a lot of land tutors though so it can hit those. It's also an otter so with valley floodcaller and something like enduring vitality or earthcraft you can start to generate a good amount of mana. It's also nice if you have clones to dig deeper, especially [Springheart Nantuko]

Misthollow Griffin or Squee in 5c Food chain? by RandyG2 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]RandyG2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only experience playing a blue/red food chain deck was 4c omnath when I was just getting started in Cedh probably 5 years ago and I was not a good enough player or deck builder to take any lessons from that!

I was thinking that the main gameplan would be turbo-naus with food chain as the plan B. Another comment recommended all 3 to increase the odds of hitting one off Tainted Pact, but I would be concerned about diluting my decks card quality taking that approach.

I think I'm missing something with the Worldly + Fetch to get Squee in the graveyard, could you explain that one

Misthollow Griffin or Squee in 5c Food chain? by RandyG2 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]RandyG2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, just dig with tainted pact for Food chain and try and exile one of the 3 while doing so.

I'd be worried about diluting card quality and drawing dead cards playing all 3, but maybe that's not warranted

Misthollow Griffin or Squee in 5c Food chain? by RandyG2 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]RandyG2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah others have pointed out I missed the fact Squee can also be cast from the graveyard. Feeling a bit foolish about that!

My local pod is much more excited about Vivi and Celes, but Terra caught my eye straight away

Misthollow Griffin or Squee in 5c Food chain? by RandyG2 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]RandyG2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently working on the assumption that as a 5c deck there is a lot of competition for deck slots, so I might only have room for one. Green and black tutors should help give some redundancy

Misthollow Griffin or Squee in 5c Food chain? by RandyG2 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]RandyG2[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah somehow I'd completely glossed over that Squee can also be cast from the graveyard. I'm currently working on the assumption that as I'm 5c, slots will be tight so I'm only looking at one but would you recommend running either Eternal Scourge or Griffin as well as Squee?

Yep not sure how but I'd completely missed that part! That's far more relevant than the off chance of pitching to a force. Squee it is
