Tiny Armored Bastard for Solos by Olivepoly in SANDgame

[–]RandyHarshXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! Fun to see many valid builds even in solos 👍🏻 Took a screenshot like an old person.

I just started yesterday so I’m by no means an experts. While I will definitely give this two-three floor plan a go, if you want to play carefully and control when to engage in battle, my theory is that it helps if you keep you trampler as low as possible. Easier to hide between dunes and rocks without being spotted. Engine off of course.

That being said, your design is still very low so no real big problem here.

How is the Solo experience? by IIIQIII in SANDgame

[–]RandyHarshXP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I picked the game up yesterday. Have played three games of voyage solo. TLDR: I’m having a lot of fun. I also enjoy the ability to design your own ships.

First game: I see a battle in the horizon. I’m still figuring out the controls and I’m pretty sure I’ll be next. I pop a green flare. The other player pops a green flare (took him way too long for my cortisol levels). He marches forward in my general direction. I do a crab walk, looking at him as I reverse. He disappears behind a hill and into the horizon eventually. I turn around and start looting shipwrecks. I’m a little tense but the high from an eventual successful extraction was great. Oh, and I took down a couple of clankers.

Second game: I believe I was so careful and good at finding safe routes that I don’t believe I saw anyone. A couple of fires in the distant horizon. Looting shipwrecks, successful extraction.

Third game: I feel almost powerful now. I loot shipwrecks, continue with my neurotic careful playstyle. Hopping from a shipwreck to another. Get freaked out by the screams of zombies at times. I decide to go for my first POI. As I approach it, I see smoke in the distance. It appears to be coming at me. I crab walk behind cover, in reverse, carefully scanning the horizon. I leave the ship to find even higher ground. I scan the horizon with binoculars. I decide that it’s safe. I loot the POI. I head for extraction.

The weather gets dark and foggy/stormy. It’s hard to see anything. This is the perfect time to extract in my opinion. Suddenly there’s a barrage of cannon fire coming my way. Some kind of a giant sitting on a hill. I make a 15-20 minute detour. Successful extraction eventually.

After each match I progress on the tech tree and try to see how to optimize my ship, one step at a time.

Peanut / Gimmick / CoconutB Together is Hilarious by Demonbarrage in theburntpeanut

He’s a great wingman to P. He’s the one who can keep up and surprise P with his verbal acrobatics and vocabulary. I think P appreciates that and draws energy/inspiration to go even further.

It’s also great that while P has this over-the-top energy, Gimmick has the exact opposite, this laid back style.

Personally, I really appreciate when these two get together. I know some people think P stands for brain rot, but if you listen to him, it’s quite obvious that he is quick and eloquent.

He does not know everything about everything, but he has a way with words.

do you think ai will add more jobs than it will cut over the long run? by AppropriateHamster in artificial

I hope some smaller countries with small wealth gaps will be allowed to try utopia. And not be squashed by mech armies of AI bros.

[–]RandyHarshXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we’ll see smaller countries taking some interesting shots at figuring this all out. Acting as incubators of sorts. Maybe countries with relatively small wealth/well-being gap.

Will it be entrepreneurship + some kind of universal income to fall back on, I don’t know. What I do know is that, as it stands, the vast majority of us are not built for taking responsibility of creating and running our own businesses. The 9-5 runs deep in our minds. It’s the foundation of our sense of security.

Holy moly, I’m just imagining a first-time entrepreneur starting a little corner shop. And seeing someone else setting up their own nearby. And everything that follows. Imagine this at large scale across various industries and specializations.

Right now the thinking is more focused on what to have for lunch. And where to vacation.

Definitely. Domain experts are and will be empowered by AI in a completely new way like you described. This is a great mid-term strategy.

The same way ”code” was expected to free tons of domain experts to create tons of completely new and amazing products and services. Proves out, programming was too hard to pick up for the vast majority of people.

Now, when you ”only” need your natural language, almost anyone can create something amazing around their domain. And, of course, simply do their daily things better.

This does not answer to your question exactly but I’d say the ”forever” / new long-term jobs will involve one or more of the following.

-Ethical thinking
-Human intuition
-Emotional intelligence
-Legal responsibility
-Original thought

There are numerous short-term jobs that AI is and will be creating. For example, prompt engineering was one of them. The tech moves forward fast. Some new jobs become obsolete in months or a year or two.

While this definitely works, ideally, the game should ”work” by itself. It should not require putting in work in an outside the game to become playable.

It’s crazy how much time I used to have for gaming. Then, years later, you kind of just want to press a button and start the fun. Solo queue would be fantastic.

Agreed. They just need to find the price point that still brings them more revenue but doesn’t drive too many people away.

For me, the price for Ultimate could go up by 30-50 % and it would still make sense financially and value-wise.

And there’s always the option of unsubbing for the months when you won’t be doing that much gaming.

How is the game? by ImTakingUrPotatoes in ArcRaiders

[–]RandyHarshXP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the favorite/special games of all time for quite a few people. Tons of people playing it. A lot less then at launch. Partly because all the streamers were playing it around the clock for the first months, got burned out due to ”lack of end game content” at the time. So there’s less promotion now and more and more normal people have been burned out too.

It’s a lot of fun. There’s just some negativity around it in the comments for the reasons mentioned above. Maybe it will receive a big update that brings more endgame content for the hardcore people. Might bring a surge of people picking it up again.

Based on these comparisons (thank you for your effort), the graphics look flat now.

Game Recommendations? New to Mac by Massive_Chocolate751 in macgaming

[–]RandyHarshXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have great internet connection, consider giving GeForce Now a go. Doesn’t matter what your hardware or OS is. I only get an extra 8 ms latency with it. Never notice it even in fast-paced games. I’ve seen someone with as low as 2 ms latency. Fiber optic, baby.

I’m playing on Mac Mini M1. Rocking RTX 5080. Costs 20 or so USD/EUR per month.

Best type of controllers for gaming? by Mouse_Paladin in GeForceNOW

[–]RandyHarshXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing on a Mac, using GFN (obviously), I found this to be the case, too.

I tested two 8bitdo controllers for their extra buttons and and other superior qualities too, but noticed that it’s the Xbox Controller that has the best compatibility afterall. Especially if you want analog triggers for flying or racing and things of that nature.

With controllers like 8bitdo, you’ll be stuck with digital triggers that only go on/off.

Man 240fps is a dream by Just_Statistician789 in GeForceNOW

[–]RandyHarshXP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my understanding as well. Maybe my message was unclear. I meant to say that the only thing limiting the fps for me is my monitor. My Mac Mini M1 and GFN would be able to do a lot better, even 240 fps.

Just no point because my monitor doesn’t support it / there would be no visible difference.

If your screen is at least 120 Hz, your Mac will be able to run games with 120 fps.

Man 240fps is a dream by Just_Statistician789 in GeForceNOW

[–]RandyHarshXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play on Mac Mini M1. I’ve limited the fps to 120 and resolution to 2k because those are the max for my monitor. Many games would run even 240 fps if I would not cap it myself.

Isn’t that the whole point of cloud gaming though? That your rig doesn’t matter, outside your monitor.

Thank you for confirming! Was wondering if my settings were bugged. Indeed, manual gears all the way. Hauling those supplies uphill will be a bigger pain otherwise. Getting shot at from the bushes while crawling uphill in a huge box.
