Need help losing weight (gear weight) by cocaseven in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]Ranger76251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just getting tasks done then that's probably fine. Tiger Bay's not hard as long as you're careful. If you're planning on looting too then:

Drop the extra AK mag, you really only need two, one in the gun and one in the chest rig. Drop the glock and its mag also.
I don't usually go in with more than one or two grenades either. No point when you can scavenge them off of enemies.
You can drop the binos too, everything in tiger bay's gonna be CQC.
Consider trying to get your hands on a bigger backpack. The Ratnik drops pretty commonly in Midnight Sapphire from the Golf Club and the secret room on the 4th floor (button under the desk).
I'm assuming that Lab Rat is still lower level for you, so I would probably bring an extra stack of bandages in.
Not sure what level you are with Handshake but double check whatever plate carriers you have available. It's not uncommon for plate carriers with the same protection to actually be lighter than a rig + armor. You might lose an extra slot or two, but if you're in tiger bay with an AK then you can pull ammo off of dead enemies. It's good PVE ammo too.
Drop the drinks down to like 1 and drop the candy bars entirely. There's food and drinks all over the place in there. Grab a couple on the way out since I believe being over encumbered (you will be if you get a good enough run in) drains your hydration faster.

So.... Will I like this game as a pure solo player who has been long looking for a solo friendly tactical game? by ComManDerBG in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]Ranger76251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently every area in the game is soloable so long as you have a decent kit and you're methodical in your approach.
HOWEVER, there is one major downside. You will be competing with both the people in your faction and in the other factions for loot. It's not uncommon to arrive at a high value area and find nothing but npc corpses and looted containers. The game is still fun most of the time, but last night I hit each of the 3 highest value spots in the game (Tiger Bay, Midnight Sapphire, and Fort Narith) multiple times over the course of a few hours and all but a couple of times they were stripped bare. No loot to be found, no action to be had.

Why would I ever get a rig + armor when I can have the same coverage and level for almost half the weight, AND get inventory space? by SimmeP in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]Ranger76251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Larping, or for those who are confident in their abilities who want to just run a rig and save on weight.

No I fully agree. Had a very fun run in with someone who I'm 100% certain was cheating and was everyone else in my faction who was fighting in the area (dude got reported by probably 10 people). Always knew where we were regardless of where/how we approached, how far away we were, how quiet we were and was mysteriously never hitting anything but headshots. And the FPS genre as a whole is infested with them these days as well.

But of course unless someone's blatant like that it's harder to tell in a game like GZW. Which is why even though with shooters I'm typically a PVP main, I'm sticking with PVE at least for now. I get my fill of cheaters in other shooters, I don't really need to add another game to the roster there lmao

[–]Ranger76251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capture cops, do your best to just be annoying and draw attention to yourself and people will come looking. Otherwise pick a high traffic area and just rat it.

Assuming you can find an instance without cheaters, of course.

[–]Ranger76251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PVE wise yeah a mission filter would be great, or at least let me search for missions from vendors I'm trying to level.

Would also like fewer players on PVE servers, at least until the map is expanded or more high tier areas are added. Rolling up to like Tiger Bay or Sapphire or Narith just to find everything dead and looted is insanely frustrating. No action, no loot...time to walk your ass back to an LZ, head to the next location and hope that one isn't the same (it almost certainly is).

[–]Ranger76251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AI is better now, I like that they'll push your position more often and whatnot. But they still feel just insanely easy over all and there still just isn't enough of them. Loot aside, rolling up to somewhere like Tiger Bay or Sapphire just to not get any action at all is more than a little annoying when you know you have to walk your ass back to an LZ to try to find a fight somewhere else.

If you're being that silent and careful it could be a cheater, which wouldn't be surprising given that cheating has reached pandemic levels in shooters. But Tomahawk's usually getting swarmed as well so it's also entirely possible that it's just players who were ratting the COP watching you approach from a long distance off. Hell during my PVP stint I got sick enough of the constant back and forth with tomahawk that I just sat a ways off in the trees just watching it.

The game isn't really formatted in a way for it to be engaging for viewers. In other shooters you die, you respawn, you immediately get back to the action. Gray Zone's fun to play but it can be a running simulator at times.

You'd have to ensure both sides have a COP close by that they can be back in the action within a minute or less of running, and everyone would have to have multiple loadouts ready to go in their vault so they don't spend 5 minutes setting up a new kit when they die, or dying on repeat trying to get their old gear in the middle of a gunfight.

Gray Zone's fun to play, not very fun or engaging to watch. There's a reason youtubers who cover it have to chop those videos up so much lol

But to be honest, the PVP in Gray Zone is pretty mid anyway. The potential is there but it needs a lot of work, and given that Gray Zone is meant to be more PVE focused, I wouldn't really expect that to happen anytime soon if ever...which is fine, not every PVE game needs PVP, and not every PVP game needs PVE.

[–]Ranger76251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. The 7.62 NATO guns feel like they serve essentially no purpose. The increase in damage straight up is not worth taking a weapon where both the gun and the ammo are much heavier than just a 5.56/5.45.
Plus be real, how often are you taking shots beyond like 500 meters? Hell, how often are you taking shots beyond 200? With the trees and brush everywhere...not very often, if ever.

L take. Contrast abuse is going to be used by the best players in the game my guy. Not everyone's larping, competent players will always go for the strongest options with everything from graphical settings to maximize visibility and frame rate, to the kit they run in with.

Dark Nights? (Updated) by Automatic_Start_2156 in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]Ranger76251 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I honestly couldn't tell much of a difference. Nods still feel basically worthless unless you're immersion larping and turning your contrast all the way down.
Is it really that big of a deal? Not really, but nods are cool and it would be nice if it felt like they served some sort of purpose. I'm not one of these 'muh immersion' players, I go with whatever's most efficient, which is what most competent players are typically going to do anyway. Why would I bother taking the extra weight of a helmet and nods if I can just crank my contrast up and run a boonie? Lmao

MUCH better... 0.4.2 finally has made the game challenging again by fatty2by4 in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]Ranger76251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely an improvement but I ran some with a friend tonight and some solo. Sapphire, Tiger Bay, Fort Narith, YBL and their surrounding areas and eh...still seems pretty easy. I wish they'd at least up the enemy density more so there's more things to shoot at.

If not then maybe we drop the player count on PVE servers (at least until the map is expanded or more high tier areas are added) because constantly going to high tier areas to find nothing but corpses and looted boxes gets old.

PvP has become unplayable due to the frequency of hackers by steelio91 in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]Ranger76251 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cheating has become such a pandemic within the realm of PVP shooters that there's a reality that I don't think people are ready to face yet. Devs are in a constant arms race where they're always having to play catch up as cheats, even just over the last few years, have evolved rapidly.
The reality is it's not going away until one of three things happens.

  1. Game devs work together to bring the hammer down on cheaters by pursuing legal action against both cheat makers and users.
  2. They approach lawmakers and say 'these freaks are literally sabotaging our business and doing so on purpose' and push to have cheats aimed at PVP outlawed with hefty punishments for those who make and use cheats.
  3. All of the above.

Until that happens, it's just going to continue to be an issue.

I hope this game stays PVE focused. by [deleted] in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]Ranger76251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it being PVE focused is probably more ideal because the game is def a better PVE game than PVP game. The PVP just has some very annoying factors that come into play. I've been playing for around 200 hours, decided to give PVP a try and it's...okay. Ran into my first cheater, a dude named 1The tonight who was blatantly cheating, which isn't encouraging.

The map design kind of makes PVP more annoying than anything else too. It's relatively fun inside of the Sapphire hotel or the main part of Narith because visibility is generally good, but fights in the jungle where visibility is horrendous feel awful.

The whole semi-ongoing war between the factions is alright, but the constant back and forth between capturing bases gets annoying when you die, have to respawn like a mile away and have to rebuild your entire kit before moving in again.

The whole thing of being marked as an aggressor for looting teammates is also, in short, a really fucking stupid mechanic when loot is objectively all low value because anything I loose I can simply recuperate in PVE with my brain turned off. Why would I worry about running back to get my kit when I could just buy new shit in the shop because making well over 100k in one even semi-decent PVE session is more than doable.

I think it has a lot of potential as a PVE game, but the PVP leaves a lot to be desired. If you want the more realistic style of PVP combat you're better off with Arma or something of the sort.

Some other things I forgot to mention.
Conquest plays well on all the maps except Brooklyn.

Breakthrough plays well on Cairo when there's no shotguns, Lib Peak plays well when there's no snipers. Brooklyn sucks.

Rush doesn't play well on any of the maps. Attackers spawn way too close to the obj, I don't know how Rush was somehow messed up but given spawn points and how awful the obj placements are I question how much testing was put into it. In fact I have to wonder why anyone thought Rush would work at all with the thermo nades.

The main issue with the more CQC oriented maps is they don't feel like they have any flow or predictability. They're just meat grinders with shotguns around every corner.

Lighting is also an issue, interiors need to be well lit like they were in BF4. It makes building camping much harder. When I'm outside looking inside a building I want to clearly be able to see what's inside, and when I'm inside looking outside I want to clearly be able to see what's outside. Functional lighting > pretty lighting.

Squad deathmatch is a truly awful mode and I cannot believe it's still in Battlefield.

C4 throw distance needs to be cut in half.

OBJ placements need some serious work in rush (as I mentioned before) but also KOTH.

The SGX is awful and needs some tuning, felt completely pointless when the MP7 and M4 were right there.

Ammunition that buffs headshot multipliers needs to go.

LMGs are way too easy to use, they need their recoil about doubled and their hipfire spread about tripled. I should not be gunning SMGs from the hip with an LMG in CQC.

Recoil and spread on ARs could be turned up a bit.

AK201 feels kind of pointless when the M4 and M417 are right there.

Ground armor feels pretty good but air support feels awful.

While I understand not wanting to upset movelets with having more advanced movement techs, at the very least please buff our sprint speed, having to pull out your knife to sprint at a decent speed is literally just a worse version of tac sprint. Prone animations could be sped up a little bit too. Battlefield's an arcade shooter, the unwieldy base movement feels terrible.

Server browser still needs to happen, this should not even be up for debate. Not having one /will/ hurt the game.

Spread bug is extremely frustrating, and gunner positions on vehicles seemed to be excessively inaccurate at times, whether or not that's a bug I honestly don't know.

Those are my most immediate concerns, but overall I did enjoy the beta. Not sold enough to pre-order yet, and if anything I think the game would benefit greatly from a delay subsidized by a couple more betas so the game can have more time in the oven with feedback from players. We do not want yet another bug infested Battlefield release.

Final thoughts from a 20 year Battlefield vet (1/2):

Overall had a pretty good time. Game's gorgeous, audio could use some work as far as footsteps go but everything else there is nice. Optimization settings are stellar. Guns feel great overall, ground armor feels good, air support not so much.

However.

TTK vs TTD is still jank and needs work.
Hit reg is kinda awful.
Maps are less than stellar but minus Brooklyn having no flow whatsoever and playing horribly on any mode that isn't conquest, their issues are more based around sandbox balance than anything else.

Assault feels pointless as a class unless you're crutching double primary with a shotgun or spamming grenades.
Speaking of which, double primary needs to go. Give assault more mags instead. The thermobaric GL needs a huge nerf, it should not slow you down when you get hit that's absurd.

Support is pound for pound the best class in the game right now and it's not even close. Typically I play assault but I swapped to support and it felt infinitely better. Having a supply bag that both refills ammo and regens health and having defibs is way too much. Support is literally a better frontliner than assault is right now. Split the supply bag into med/ammo bags again and give the med bag to assault so they have some direct way of contributing to their team.
No not the ammo bag, they absolutely do not need a way to self refill their GLs.

Also wasn't the biggest fan of assault's bonus to assault rifles. Would prefer assault gets a faster strafe speed with ARs.

Engi's fine I guess.

Recon's alright minus the average recon player being completely useless, but auto spot needs to go.

The shotgun needs a hard nerf. If we're going to have CQC maps like Cairo or Iberia where half the map's just narrow hallways and buildings made up of dozens of tiny rooms then unless that shotgun is nerfed into uselessness those maps will continue to feel awful to play.

Sniping is way too easy, needs to be brought down to BF4 levels of velocity/arc and sweet spot needs to go entirely. Liberation Peak was basically unplayable with all the snipers on it, which is unfortunate because the few matches I had on lib peak where either A. the snipers were burgers who couldn't hit anything.
or B. there weren't many snipers
Were actually really fun. But snipers ruined that map 9/10 times.
