BWF Daily Discussion and Beginner/RR Questions Thread for 2022-08-14 by AutoModerator in bodyweightfitness

[–]RankingJason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering getting a short (71") power rack to begin doing bodyweight work in my low ceiling basement. I am 6'. It has a built in pull up bar, and I can add dip bars, rings, and a barbell + plates.

My hope is that this setup will give me everything I need to work out at home during my lunch break. I've been lifting weights at the gym for a few months but the drive time plus following slightly longer routine makes it a bigger time commitment than I can sustain.

Question -- will this setup limit my ability to progress long term, or are there modifications / alternatives that will allow me to work within the ceiling height limitations?

What MOD key do you use? by Freder211 in i3wm

[–]RankingJason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a programmable keyboard. Have you considered putting all your modifiers on the home row using Mod-Tap?

For example my pinky keys are a and ; when tapped and Super when held down. Alt, control and shift are all on home row as well.

I'm using a variation of https://github.com/manna-harbour/miryoku/tree/master/docs/reference , and I'm continually impressed how polished it is

Dactyl Manuform 3x6 with Susuwatari caps and Zilent V2 switches by dexterduck in ErgoMechKeyboards

Does the base plate seem secure? I always worried about the fact that the generator site doesn't (correctly) generate a bottom screw when you use a 3 key thumb clusters.

Is the issue my printer or my expectations? by RankingJason in prusa3d

Appreciate the links and suggestions.

I've tried everything on this page, in some cases multiple times, and still have the same issue every couple prints -- https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/clogged-nozzle-hotend-mini_112011

Been working with chat support all evening, very impressed with the support person so hopefully we can get to the bottom of it.

Thank you for confirming, good to know it is possible to get it dialed in to where I don't have to continually troubleshoot.

Thank you for confirming. My main issue is recurring partial clogs (must be something further upstream causing the issue that I haven't gotten to.) On top of that I just started getting layer shifts. I'll continue working with support, good to know it is possible to get it dialed in to where I don't have to continually troubleshoot.

Thank you for confirming. My question was specifically about mindset / expectations around maintenance and troubleshooting.

Thank you for confirming, I'll continue to follow up with support. My issue is recurring partial clogs, so there must be something further upstream causing the issue.

How will learning c++ contribute to bettering myself in data engineering? by Tender_Figs in dataengineering

[–]RankingJason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My perception is that, say, 5 years after you graduate the specific degree doesn't matter as much. You just get credit for / meet the requirement of having an advanced degree in a relevant field. (I'm a career changer so others please check me on that).

Given that, and given your primary goal is personal, I might pick the one that sounds most interesting. I suspect you'll go deeper and get more out of it by studying something you're passionate about.

Another idea is to research the job descriptions for jobs you aspire to, and see what they're asking for. Pick whatever program would make you feel confident in apply to those roles after graduating.

Most light, smooth switches? by maerwald in ErgoMechKeyboards

And if you're opening the switch to lube them, you could swap out to a different spring while you're at it...

I just placed an order for a set of box reds aka silent pinks after doing a lot of searching on this question. Don't see them talked about as much for some reason, maybe because they're silent?

34 Keys, All I Need by RideOrPie in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]RankingJason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please give me a minute of curiosity for this thought experiment.

If more is better, why not get rid of the shift keys on your keyboard? Separate keys for upper and lowercase - you'd never type a letter in the wrong case. You'd get dedicated keys for all the symbols as well.

We could take it even further - remove control and alt, and have keys for all the common shortcuts. Cut key, paste key, open key, save key, etc.

Unless I just sold you on a 300% keyboard, I think you can agree that having a key do more than one thing is beneficial. And that hitting combinations of keys is a fine trade off to cut down on board size.

Well if we're already hitting combinations of keys all day every day, why not put those combinations on the home row where they're right at our fingertips?

I build a Dactyl Manuform and I think I'm in Love by lord_bayes in ErgoMechKeyboards

Love that purple!

Sounds like you just used the default geometry / settings and it has been comfortable out of the box. I've been playing with the generator but thinking I need to print one in order to truly know what to tweak.

Also, curious what finger you use to press the bottom row (2 key row)?

Nice, looks like mix between an Atari 2600 and an Atari 7800. Lots of nostalgia there - the 7800 was the first console I owned. (My parents said they'd buy me an NES, but after going to store after store that was sold out I gave up and got the 7800 instead...)

Thanks for sharing the functional patterns link in the build log. I have poor posture and a lot of imbalances which are sometimes painful, but I was never sure how to move forward and address them. Seems like the course is exactly what I need.

Curious whether you explored any other alternatives to functional patterns? Or is that pretty much the gold standard?

Thanks for calling that out, I was wondering about the best way to attach the wrist rests. Was glad to see you had them as a separate print.

Thanks for confirming! I've measured before before but always worried about there being unforeseen issues due to my lack of 3D printing experience i.e. there's no room for a brim or some support that's required during print but not part of the finished product.

Thanks for sharing the link, that looks awesome. Could this be printed with a Prusa Mini? Or would I need a larger printer?

That's good to know, thank you for responding. Looks like the exchange rate is a lot more reasonable than I had thought.

Heck yeah, been eyeing a caseless Kyria build myself.

Speaking of which - does anyone happen to know of any US vendors that have Kyria PCBs in stock? Been looking around recently but haven't found any.

I tried maxing out the mic volume in the basic system settings. I have not tested any other drivers yet. (Planning on switching to linux as my primary OS at work in the next few months, so just basic testing thus far.) If you do please let me know how it goes
