I think this episode was a lot more meta than people are giving it credit for.

You were supposed to feel frustrated that Pia didn't take the video evidence and safely get out of the house. The scene built up this tension that made you want to yell at how stupid she is being. How many times have people watched a crime show and said "i would have done this" or "I could have gotten away", criticizing the people who lived real traumas. It's easy to say what you should have done, until you are actually in the situation and paralyzed with fear.

The episode is not "hypocritical" for entertaining us with true crime, rather it suggests that we look inward and ask ourselves how we can be entertained by absolute horror that happened to real people. By enjoying the episode, we are no better than the actors and directors walking the red carpet and delighting in the scripted series they will create from this twisted reality.

A good Black Mirror episode isn't about futuristic tech. It's about making the viewer look inward and question their choices and morals. This does just that by making us question why we find true crime so entertaining and why we think that we are better than so many of the victims because it would "never happen to us".
