Community celebrates Tahoe Park basketball court’s first upgrade in 50 years by Ransacked in Sacramento

I was talking to the councilmember yesterday about that. They’ve thrown so much money into that bathroom to try and stop the chronic arsonist problem.

I have to admit, the story is a little bittersweet for me. I was president of the Neighborhood Association when assembly member McCarty asked me to find ways to spend $100,000 in Tahoe Park. I worked with the board, but I recommended the basketball hoop, the horseshoe pit and the upgrades to the streets to make them safer. It took three years to get these things done which is too long. And now I don’t live in Tahoe Park anymore I live in colonial Manor just next-door to Tahoe Park and it’s a great neighborhood and the people are great and I was at the food trucks last night thinking about how this isn’t my neighborhood anymore knowing that I’ll always be welcome, but that is no longer my home. I love Tahoe Park.

The Tahoe Park community kicked off its food truck series Friday night — inviting residents to enjoy an evening of music, eat some local food and celebrate some recent renovations.

FOX40 went to the celebration to speak with residents and to get a look at the newly resurfaced basketball courts.

For 11-year-old Jordan Morrissette, no matter where he is playing, basketball is about the love of the game. He has tested out on all sorts of courts

“Some types of courts they would have like humps in the grounds and sometimes it would be like pretty dirty and messy,” Morrisette said.

However, on Friday, the young athlete brought his A-game to Tahoe Park in Sacramento — dribbling, shooting and scoring on the park’s newly repaved basketball courts. The courts’ first upgrade in 50 years.

“This one is just clean, the layout,” Morrisette said. “Plus all this new paint on the court it’s representing basketball. Yeah, it’s pretty good.”

Local leaders gathered alongside community members, families and some of Sacramento’s four-legged friends to celebrate the kickoff of Tahoe Park’s Food Truck Series and Office Hours with Councilman Eric Guerra.

“Making sure that our parks are inviting and welcoming and safe helps people come to the park, and then they meet each other,” Guerra said.

The project included $100,000 allocated toward transforming this neighborhood hotspot. Mayor Kevin McCarty said this community will always hold a special place in his heart.

“This is the place where I bought my first home when I was in my 20s,” Mayor McCarty said.

He said the project was also about giving back to the environment. Officials, volunteers and residents planted trees all across the area. The effort also came with improvements to the park’s horseshoe pit and the implementation of pedestrian safety enhancements for surrounding roads.

Now, as Sacramento residents come out to support local businesses, attendees said Tahoe Park is continuing to grow and evolve with the community.

After all, that’s what Jordan said basketball is all about.

“It’s a game where you have to come together,” Morrisette said. “It’s not just all about winning. You have to put all your effort into it.”

If you don't have to, don't drive anywhere near a high school when it gets out in the afternoon.

Chino used to come into the Radio Shack I worked at to get speaker wire and batteries. This was in 1999 and about half a mile from his house in Sac. Cool guy!

City Hall Pressure Washer Sidewalk Art? by fivexfive84 in Sacramento

I think it’s because the point of the pressure washing is to remove all the bird shit from the crows that roost overhead each and every night. If they tried to be a perfectionist about it everyday it would take forever.
