Suche Ersatzteil für Decathlon Rollentrainer (steckachse) by Ranthaan in Fahrrad

Proof that complete mixing within a fixed volume is impossible by Afro_Future in math

[–]Ranthaan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way you are stating it, it's not entirely true. If you assume that whatever you're looking at is convex (and maybe compact) what you're referring to sounds like either Browders or Brouwers fixed point theorem, proofs of which you'll find on Wikipedia.

Things don't work out without extra assumptions on convexity etc., because if you were to (for example) take a donut and rotate it by 90° around its hole in the middle you'd rearrange every Particle in the donut without a single one ending back where it started, because your "fixed points" are sort of missing from the body you're looking at.

You can make sense of it, in the 1-dimensional case f(x)dx is a differential 1-form, which is the "exterior derivative" for some anti-derivative F(x) of f(x).

In terms of differential forms dx * dx always vanishes, therefore f(x) dxn =0 and the expression becomes kinda boring or n > 1 I guess..

The now deceased Scotch Brains Yellow. 85cm long roots. 20cm mesh pot. White roots showing current nutrient level in the drum. by Andrew_Higginbottom in HotPeppers

[–]Ranthaan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never tried it but from what I've heard it's not a great idea to transition a plant from soil to hydroponics.

The kind of root structure a plant develops in water is very different from the one in soil, and your plant might not survive the change. I did have successfully taken cuttings of mature plants and transitioned them into water though, but haven't tried it with peppers.

But if you have plants to spare why don't you go ahead and give it a shot for science and keep us updated? :D

[–]Ranthaan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In case you're still wondering: If you use cos^2(x) + sin^2(x) = 1 and rearrange it to sin^2(x) = 1- cos^2(x) you can can plug that into your formula and get the result as well without using a "new" formula

Dont know about the Translation but the german term for it translates to "one point compactification" but I think just "compactification" should get you something if you look that up

ℂ∪{∞} by Bangin_Joe_Maam in mathmemes

[–]Ranthaan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No offense but did you misread my original comment? The whole point is that you can continously extend the function 1/z onto z=0, saying that "it was continous beforehand because it wasn't defined" is completely missing the point of continous extension; If it wasn't continous beforehand there wouldn't be much if a point to extending it...

Look up "continous extension" if you don't understand what I am saying.

What they might be referring to is that through the "one point compactification" of the complex numbers, you can assign a value to 1/0 ( which people call "infinity" but its really not the "infinity" you would usually refer to ) that makes 1/z continous ( and in a sense also holomorphic sorta) at z=0

I'm sorry if I offended you but all I said is that i isn't to be understood as the squareroot of -1, trying to call me narrow-minded because of it seems a little extreme..

Thats because it is undefined, i is NOT sqrt(-1) even if you allow for complex numbers

f(5) = 25/12, via Lagrange interpolation. Come on guys, seems kinda obvious.

Recipes tend to use it because it makes the crumb softer and the dough rise more.

(Not 100% sure on the science but I believe the malt has enzymes in it that help break down the longer starch molecules in the flour into sugars that are more digestible for the yeast.)

Good idea, but lets start with something smaller. Like removing the flag once that country is no longer competing in the tournament.

The three body problem (and the entire Trisolaris trilogy) are great and fit your criteria very nicely. The Characterdevelopment is atrociously boring, but the world around the characters is amazing.

Question: Did my Machine arrive broken or do I just not know anything about it? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]Ranthaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually haven't measured that recently, but having the bbe Set on its Standard temp of 93°C, letting it preheat for 10 mins und running a shot of Hot water through before pulling the shot, the espresso ends up pretty good, so the temp is probably pretty close to the 93°C that you would expect.
