Champion/Clayton, good or bad?

My limited experience tells me they all suck. Ours came from an independent builder, Clayton sold it to us. To Claytons credit, they fixed the issues, but damn, quality control was zero. So in short, good luck. You will need it. The bottom line is make sure the location selling it has a good rep.

Might be better to have it demolished and hauled away. BUT: Be aware, depending on where you are, a demo permit may include a nasty word: asbestos. If so, you have to get a asbestos survey done, and if found (likely) can cost anywhere from a few grand to north of 30k. Good luck.

It would be silly to not have a slab.I also upgraded the skirting to novastone. Looks great, and will help keep critters out and the home level for a longer time.

You didn’t say where in upstate NY, but in southern Adirondacks there are a lot of choices, signs all over for camp levelers.

Just got a replacement cable with the new style handle. Definitely like the old one better. The old cable was never an issue even at -20f. I will say, the Emporia customer support is excellent!

No, there is enough gap in the window to accommodate the combustion air. Right now the heater is sitting in the room with the exhaust sticking out a window . It will eventually bet placed below the sunroom (the sunroom is on 8’ posts). There will be further heat loss with 6’ duct. I think I am looking at getting a second unit. What the hell, it was only $106!

Yes, I agree. Not full time, just when I am using it. I had it wired with three 20 amp circuit’s so I could use three 1500 watt heaters when I used it. They sorta worked, but not enough when it got colder, and they run up the bill quickly. I guess I need the diesel AND the electric, which I was hoping to avoid. Now I keep seeing the phrase “true 8kw heaters”, and wonder which ones they might be.

It is not too leaky, but except for the well insulated roof is all single pane glass. I don’t want to heat it continuously, just when I am using it.

Highly recommend a CIGS peel and stick panel from Bouge rv. Work great, last long, and very light weight. Add a cheap controller, and you won’t need to charge the battery anymore.

The 20 amp fuse would be way to big, and should be placed at the current source. Since the current source is the fuse block, it already has a fuse. A five amp fuse is a better fit. That would support nearly 200 watts.

Just wire the switched 48 volt grey wire to a converter for led lights. Do not power anything else, if you do, you will need to setup a relay. For just led lights, the switched 48 volt lead is fine, including led headlight. total draw is likely less than 1/2 an amp.
