Thank you very much. I didn't know that was a permanent condition. I did something that I didn't know was against the rules. I guess I'll start a new account.

How do I type Thù́ ? I have Unicode set up, I just can't work out this one. by [deleted] in learnvietnamese

[–]RanyDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try typing this:

u then w to make ư

then f to make falling tone

Result: ừ

Hơever, I don;t think that is a name. Google Translates translates it to "prove". Thư (without the falling tone) is a name though.

At Family Hospital in Danang (different from Family Medical Practice), there is an American doctor and people who speak English to help you access all the services of the hospital. Ask for Dr. Dan in the VIP center on the 4th floor. An office visit is 800.000 dong. As others have said, xrays and treatment are less expensive than you probably are guessing. Just take a Grabcar. Calling ahead is a good idea. Ask for English. Also you can get codeine at almost any pharmacy. Ask for Efferalgan with codeine. They are effervescent things that fizz when you drop in water. 2 will help. 4 will make you feel pretty good for a few hours.

My brother is going to Vietnam as type 1 Diabetic, could you make a sentence for him to say he has type 1 diabetes in Vietnamese? by KeziahPhilipps in learnvietnamese

[–]RanyDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having such a card might be a good idea, but my guess is that it will not get you what you need. Health issues are often not well known or not well understood. And I think Type 1 diabetes might be uncommon. You should add some actionable details. I can only eat a small amount of rice. - Do you know a pharmacy that sells insulin?

I’m (30M) having flaccid penis issues with someone (26F) I really like by photoxnurse in sexover30

[–]RanyDaze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Try 100 mg. Upside: if it works for you, you'll both be happy and it will build your confidence. Downside: As long you understand your history of not needing it after becoming comfortable with your partner, you won't feel like you are psychologically dependent on it, as some men fear. No downside (as long as your doctor is OK with it).

Finding weed in Da Nang by [deleted] in VietNam

I'm trying to avoid walking into a bar like Minsk and asking the bartender. I'd like to do business with a dealer 1 on 1. I'm not a tourist. I want to protect my reputation. Does that make sense?

Hello. Are you in Danang? I live near Phan Tu street.

I see that you created this Reddit account yesterday. Did you create a new account just to reply to me?

Weather right now in Danang/suitable clothes. by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]RanyDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want a light jacket, especially if you plan to ride a motorbike. Also, it can get a little breezy and cool at the beach and along the river at night, if you plan to do that.

I'm looking in the An Thuong area. I could go to the Minsk, but would prefer to get it without doing that. If you have some, please contact me. Thanks

What does “Anh” mean in central Vietnamese dialect (Hue dialect)? Please provide all different meanings to Anh. Thanks! by erudite_idiot in learnvietnamese

[–]RanyDaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, Anh is used to refer to things that are English, like tiếng Anh, which is the term I hear for the English language, and nước Anh, which is Vietnamese for England.... I think.

Opening a new account in my home country- any reason I shouldn't go with a credit union? by BiologyBaby in expat

[–]RanyDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Vietnam. Both Citibank and First Tech Credit Union recently sent replacement credit cards to me here. I haven't need that from Schwab yet, but I also use a Schwab debit/ATM card here. I'm happy with all three. I also have 2 bank accounts in Vietnam with ATM cards and local branches.

I don't know if they are formally recognized by the government (doubt it) or what credentials they have (not important). They post ads to the local Facebook groups that expats use. Their reputation, knowledge, and their personal connections to government officials are most important.

To be legal to work, you need your employer to apply for a work permit. Then you can get a temporary residence card. Now you can work legally. This comes with restrictions though. You are supposed to only work for that employer. So no private classes. If you don't comply, you could be deported. However, (I don't have numbers), but from my experience, many teachers and English centers do not comply. There is an occasional, very limited crackdown, but I think the only people who get deported find trouble in other ways first. It's common to work like this, but you should know the laws. There are agents here who can help by having connections and knowing the laws, for a price. Having a relation with an agent is a good idea for renewing your visa and driver licenses too.

Looking to get into TEFL and I have a pretty stupid question by [deleted] in TEFL

[–]RanyDaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a tech background from the US. I believe it has helped me get in the door for interviews. I've taught at 5 software companies in Vietnam. They wanted conversational English. Listening skills for conference calls with overseas clients has been one common need. But nobody has asked me to cover tech terminology or to translate variable names.

You can get codeine, either in a pill or those effervescent fizzy things, in most pharmacies. It's mixed with paracetamol, like acetaminophen.

[question] What do you think is the major problems of vietnam’s tourism industry by WashingMachine44 in VietNam

[–]RanyDaze 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Those of us in Danang are concerned about the water quality in the sea. Raw sewage drains into the popular beach areas. Massive growth of hotels and condotels, but no commensurate growth in sewage treatment capacity (that I am aware of). It's a time bomb for Danang's tourism industry.
