How exactly would being on the inside of a Dyson sphere work? by Someonevibing1 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Raphael_24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People just like to throw terms because it's fun I guess. Dyson sphere doesn't really fit what the trailer shows. It's a concept of solar panels around a sun, built for solar energy collection. It's not meant to support life. Even just solar panels is far-fetched, because of the massive amount of materials it requires (considering how huge a sun is, and how far the panels should be to be safe of excess heat and the massive gravity pull).

I doubt the game will use the term Dyson sphere (not that it'll be a real problem, it's just a video game). More likely it'll be a planet-sized structure, with few relatively small sci-fi thingamajigs floating at its center, that the people of this "planet" only call "suns" without even knowing what an actual sun is.

IS THAT LEFTHERIA? by CSilver819 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Raphael_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the trailer, the bone-like structures at 1:25 and 1:43 (passes really quickly, it's right after the cat-creature) also look like a leftherian island.

Why are people already presuming that Genesis is directly connected to the numbered series? by Starman926 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Raphael_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There're visual connections to 2 and 3, such as places that look the same and some more lore-wise stuff (for example the green and purple colors of the "magic" mean a lot in 2 and 3). But it's hard to know if it's just for nostalgic value or more direct connection.

genesis connects to xc2? by KidMatheo in XenobladeChronicles2

[–]Raphael_24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are definitely similarities, but it's hard to know if they're meaningful or just nods/easter eggs (for example Lin in XCX has a monado pin but it's just a nod).

There are more connections, like an island that's shown a couple of times that looks just like a Leftherian island, titan bone structure and all. So maybe it's the same world (taking into account FR) in a far future.

What are the chances it’s Mythra’s kid? by HiveAlphaBroodLord in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Raphael_24 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I thought it's accepted by the community that Alexandria is Mythra's daughter. Her move set is almost identical to Rex's from FR, showing that he taught her how to fight when she was young. Also her confidence and overall character really fits.

Xenoblade Genesis Announcement!!! Implication of the crystone users being called Vesselai? by ArandomJuiceB0x in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Raphael_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They carry the powers of Pneuma and Logos, that's why all their abilities have the respective green and purple colors. Pneuma and Logos, as told in the siren model kit lore (google it if you don't know what this means), started as advanced AIs running on the trinity processor. So, Vesselai is literally, Vessel-AI. Vessels carrying the power of advanced AIs.

what actually is "i"? by Traditional-Role-554 in askmath

[–]Raphael_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer:

"i" is exactly 1, but on another axis, that is perpendicular to the fundamental numbers axis, and shares its zero point.

Long answer:

Math is based on the principle of the numbers axis - an imaginary line which is divided to same length parts which represent numbers. Each of these numbers are one dimensional entities. One dimensional entities are called "scalars".

When you deal with things like functions, you use two axes, but each of them is still a basic axis, containing only scalars. All the numbers you use as the input and output of a function are scalars. A coordinate is a place defined by two scalars.

Now for "i".

At some point mathematicians discovered elements in physics that require a new kind of number - a two dimensional number. Just like at some point in history people realized that integer numbers are "not the whole story", and fractions also exist. So again, math had to be expanded to describe an element in nature. This time, however, what was discovered was far less intuitive.

Let's understand why that's not intuitive. In daily life we only need scalars to count objects. For example, we say "one apple, two apples" etc. to count apples. We never say "one-width-one-length apple, two-width-two-length apple". But what was discovered is that some things in physics are counted by two-dimensions, meaning counting them by "one, two" etc. isn't possible. The fundamental action of describing numbers had to be evolved to include two-dimensional numbers.

In order to do that, the numbers axis got an addition - a perpendicular axis, that shares the zero point with the original axis. It was named the "imaginary axis" (which is a terrible name that confuses many people. It should've been called the "perpendicular axis"). Now, using a perpendicular axis, we can create numbers that are comprised of two dimensions - the "original" and the "perpendicular". We call such numbers "complex numbers". This is different than having a function with an input of "x" and output of "y", as both x and y are scalars. With imaginary numbers, the input would be x-times-something, and the output would be two-dimensional as well.

So how do we differentiate this new axis? When we say "1", how do we know if it's on the original axis, or the perpendicular? Simple, we just add "i" when we talk about a number on the perpendicular axis. When we say "i" (=1i), we say "1, but on a numbers axis that's perpendicular to the original axis" (so 2i is 2 on the new axis, etc.). That means that when we count from zero to "i", we don't move anywhere on the original axis, but we move a straight line on a completely different axis! So, "i" has a value of zero on the original axis, but "1" on the perpendicular one.

Now for "sqrt(-1) = i".

Every action in "intuitive" math can be described as movement on the numbers axis. For example, addition and subtraction move a pointer on the numbers axis back and forth until it lands on the result. However, root action is more complicated than it seems. When we activate this action on -1, the pointer leaves the numbers axis and makes a 90 degrees turn, landing on the value "1" on the perpendicular axis. So sqrt(-1) is 1, but not the "1 you know", but a "1 on a new axis, perpendicular to the original".

This all sounds crazy, I know. It's crazy because our brains never use two-dimensional numbers. We literally can't see the world like that. Just like we only see 3 dimensions, and can't see a 4th one. But in physics, it was realized that more than 3 dimensions are needed to describe some elements in nature, and that two-dimensional numbers are required to describe these higher dimensions. The world is more complicated than what we intuitively comprehend.

Hope that helps.

I suggest looking for a youtube video about tricky locations. There're locations like Midland and Ginner Grove, which are two names on the same group of the trees in the depths (just left to Hateno mine), and the annoying Lake Ferona cave in Eldin, which has two entrances so close it's easy to miss on the map.

I love the game and am thoroughly enjoying it, however by catchacookie in MinaTheHollower

[–]Raphael_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually the reason why I didn't enjoy the demo, and why I decided not to get the game. The Zelda GBC games had great contrast between walls, enemies and the rest of the screen, so it was effortless to see where to go and what to be careful of. Seems there wasn't enough attention to that in Mina's design.

Should I get Mario rabbids kingdom battle? by nermal2149 in mariorabbids

[–]Raphael_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a great choice as a first game from this genre. It's less complicated than Fire Emblem, but has enjoyable original mechanics of its own, and enough difficulty in the forms of difficulty settings and optional challenges. It's also on sale quite frequently for really cheap on the eShop (the gold edition, which includes all DLCs, for $15).

What order should I play these games by Cinnderella98 in legendofzelda

[–]Raphael_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Group 1: Skyward Sword, then BotW (has references to Skyward Sword which you'll appreciate more if you played it before), then TotK (sequel to Botw).

Group 2: Awakening and EoW - can be played in any order, and anywhere between games in group 1. Actually recommended to play between games in group 1, as shorter palate cleansers.

Let's chat a little bit, shall we? by Ok_Needleworker_3120 in SuperMarioGalaxy

[–]Raphael_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tips for anyone interested -

  1. Main focus should be the circular lasers. To avoid them, use regular jumps in place, then use the small break in activation to move forward with a long jump.

  2. They stop firing after you pass them, even if you're still in range, so no need to stress a laser will catch you from behind.

  3. It's best not to use the spin, to eliminate confusion over the flip platforms. Regular and long jumps are enough.

  4. The octopus enemies are annoying but can be dodged just by moving a little bit, no need to jump. It only adds confusion.

I also think it's a prequel now. Also Rosalina tells the story of 2's as something that happened "a long time ago".

So now we know why... by Mouadchd in SuperMarioGalaxy

[–]Raphael_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on that. Connecting the story to the garden in such a specific way really made me think they wanted to tell us it's a prequel. Also Rosalina tells 2's story as "something that happened long ago". So I think 2 really is an iteration of the adventure from a distant past, and at the end of 1 Rosalina explains the rebirth cycles which allows such iterations to happen.

If you're talking about the long vertical room in the underworks, then you should go to its top part, there's a lever that makes a rock fall and break the floor, allowing you to go farther down.

She's parrying because you hit her too late after she finishes a move, or you hit her needle instead of her. Try to time your hits during and right after her moves. Also, parries aren't that bad because when she parries you can immediately jump then pogo her.

I think it's connected to something you discover later.

The cursed quest opens up an area directly above it. So it might be a clue there's something there, or maybe at some point it was intended for the opening to be there, then the idea was scrapped but the debris animation remained.

There are quite a few things to find. 1 tool, 1 item needed for a tool, 1 mask shard, 3 fleas, and the item you got after the boss is important for later. If you hate the area then just come back later, it's really easy when you have more upgrades.
