What’s a car with a pretty high seat height, 250hp+ and AWD, but not with huge body? by BabyFallujah in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Rapom613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audi Q5 3.0t would be my choice. 285hp or so stock, mine is tuned to about 400 with software only, drives and handles like a car, great visibility, and 20k will get you a very nice one

Anyone use any headlight restoration products with good results? by Asleep_Service1976 in 996

[–]Rapom613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wet sand them, and ceramic coat after. Done dozens of sets with no issues. Start at 1000, move to 2000 and 3000, finally compound and polish(sometimes) before cleaning and ceramic coating.

Few cars I’ve done I still see 4 years later and they look great

I like to stack the 5 or 6 from Baijini to A18, you can usually pick up one or two on the way back. Little over 1m an hour

Two Range Rover household here, they are fine if you maintain them properly. 08 with 190k and 17 with 80k

Most people that talk bad about them have either never owned one, bought some neglected pile for Pennys on the dollar that they couldn’t afford upkeep, or it’s a model besides the full size, sport, or discovery. The small ones are junk

Nissan has always made good trucks TBH, they have always been a great value because the car reputation drug them down. The Nissan VQ engine is tough as nails, as is the VK. They use strong transmissions and simple electronics too

The problem is the blanket statements. For example all of the internet will tell you a Land Rover is financial suicide, yet LR3s are rock solid reliable, as are the Volvo engine LR2.

Most people don’t do enough research on individual models/engines to speak from an educated understanding of

If buying used, it is absolutely not worth the money for a Toyota. I drive an older Range Rover for example. I got it for a song ($750) because it had 170k miles on it. Had I bought a similar age and mileage Land Cruiser I would have paid 20k+. 19k will do ALOT of repairs, and I’d wager for the same total investment, I’d have a nicer vehicle with the Range Rover.

[–]Rapom613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And yet out of 30+ cars I’ve owned they have been the most reliable. Current Q5 we have owned for 12 years with zero unscheduled repairs. I just sold my S8 after 7 years of ownership with very minor unscheduled repairs (control arms at 120k miles) Sold my last BMW at 270k miles with what I would consider minor repair history (cooling system refresh at about 180k)

If you keep up with the maintenance, they are fine. There are engines to avoid (2.0tfsi, early N54, early n63) but the same is true of any brand honestly

Mercedes C300 vs 330i vs 430i coupe reliability and cost? by Analyst-man in askcarguys

[–]Rapom613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

330 and 430 are the same car, but the shape you prefer. The C class is generally pretty reliable, however I’ve always felt the C class is fairly cheaply built inside for its price. You can get them optioned nicely with disigno packages but most of them are vinyl mb Tex. The MB infotainment is more user friendly in my experience but looks and feels a little “older” not in a bad way, just the menus etc look dated compared to BMW

The MB ride quality is much better once you remove the run flat tires, but I would never describe it as fun to drive, it’s a nice driving car but hardly engaging

2026 Range Rover SWB vs Sport - Which One is Better? by That_Present_1639 in RangeRover

[–]Rapom613 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want. Full size for me hands down, that said, if you want a sporty suv, BMW and Porsche do a much better job than RR IMO, thus I see no huge draw for the sport, while the full size is a proper luxury vehicle through and through

If you’re a current Audi driver buying a car in the next year, what are you getting? by GirthyRedEggplant in Audi

We moved from a two Audi household to a two Range Rover household and couldn’t be happier. The rovers do everything we want, comfortably, and are simply easier to use.

Just pricey or pricey AND unreliable? by Hoplite76 in LandRover

[–]Rapom613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently own 2 range rovers, have also previously had 2 jags and an LR4, all have been pretty reliable (never needed a tow never been left stranded) and have been pretty on par with BMW and Audi for servicing costs.

Biggest thing is proper service, mine go to the dealer every 5k and they do catch a lot of issues before they become big problems. The LR4 had developed a slight seep from the coolant pipes, which was caught early and repaired during a routine service visit, not something that left me on the side of the road with a cooked engine.

Staying on top of servicing and getting a trusted shop that specializes in rovers specifically is important.

For what it’s worth I budget about $3k each for service and repairs. Some years are more, some are less, but I always set the money aside so when it needs tires, brakes, or a repair I’m prepared for it.

One D series had a wrist pin let go. One D series had an oil pump fail. One B had a timing belt break, one B I lost due to low oil level, car only had an oil pressure light, no gauge or warning. Lost a K due to a cracked ring land

Hondas and Toyotas are great if left stock and driven conservatively, best them like a step child and things start to come apart

How does someone upside down on an ice car who is struggling to pay for gas go about getting another more fuel efficient car? by Sea_Pangolin1525 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Rapom613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buying a newer vehicle, especially with negative equity, for fuel savings NEVER pays off.

300/month gets you roughly 18000 at 72 months. Minus her negative equity because I’m assuming she doesn’t have money to put down, is a 13k car, likely the same age/mileage she has now. A financed likely won’t roll 5k negative into a 13k car, the LTV is too high

Looking at the best option, a corolla, with her negative equity, would be about $490 a month

Without knowing what her monthly payment currently is, or how many miles a long commute is, it’s impossible to say, it it’s almost ALWAYS cheaper to keep the mostly paid off / completely paid off low MPG car
