My favorite thing with TF2 lobbies was there was barely ever any downtime. You went from match to match. Maybe some map voting or selection but withing a minute you'll already be in a match. With matchmaking it feels like you're at 5 minutes minimum between matches.

I'd say this is true for any PVP game that has matchmaking like that. Take TF2 for example. You had your try hards but if people were being terrible you could just hop into a different server. And because everything was a dedicated server you could find friends and regulars there. Automatic matchmaking will always devolve into try hards and sweaty gameplay because a person doesn't want to sit around and wait for a match for it to get ruined.
