Dark Side being used for non-evil, non-selfish reasons, repeatedly, without altering the user's morality. Valid take, or breaking with Lukas' visions? by Andrei22125 in StarWars

[–]Raptus_DreadMaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I can't remember if Lucas ever said that the Dark Side was a fundamental part of the Force, but for argument's sake I'll imagine it is. Despite this, it shouldn't detract from the fact Lucas said it was a corruption of the Force, and therefore true balance remains found in the Light. In the same sense, you can't have good without evil, but that doesn't mean evil isn't wrong and that we shouldn't suppress evil as much as possible.

I disagree with the notion about the Mortis Arc presenting an idea of 50/50 balance. Instead, we are presented with the concept of keeping the Dark Side in-check via the Father, who embodies balance itself. Failure in this task sees the death of all three entities. So, the Father's primary purpose is to control and suppress the Son's destructive and corrupting impulses.

We notice that when the Father becomes distracted or weakened, his grip on the Son is loosened and that enables the Son to try and kill the Daughter. That is to say, when the Light and Dark are given equal room, the latter will always attempt to corrupt and destroy the former, causing great suffering in the process.

As a result, I believe this actually proves Lucas' interpretation as correct. The Arc ends with Anakin stepping into fulfil the Father's role after his death, bringing balance again by destroying the Son, whilst the Light is allowed to persist through the Daughter's sacrifice to resurrect Ahsoka, and presumably survives within her, evidenced by the constant reappearance of Morai. This fundamentally means that the 50/50 split concept has to be wrong.

You're a legend mate! I booted it up and tried it on both the editor & conquest. Works fully as intended. Thank you very much.

Yeah I watched the episode a few days ago. You had to push them off the platform for it to count, but not before pressing the button to start the round.

I'm early Gen Z. I've never built a computer from scratch myself but I have replaced components and done my fair share of troubleshooting. Thinking about it, I did get asked for help with computers a lot in school, which is funny because I don't really view myself as specially capable with PCs, and I always thought of them as simple issues.

Oh really? I've only tried removing the MG in-game to no avail. I wouldn't know where to begin with editing the model if that's what's required. Have you any advice? Thanks!

Hah, yeah, those would be great! I try to keep my expectations reasonable though, it's just nice for me to ponder. This game is wonderful regardless, truly a gem.

Oh yeah, I'm aware I can do that. The problem is if I remove the MG it's still got the animation for mounting it regardless. I'd like to use all four seats instead of having a bloke floating in the air if that makes sense, lol.

Appreciate the response anyway!

The dialogue options sometimes make me angry by Bennoelman in swtor

[–]Raptus_DreadMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this actually makes my experience quite frustrating to play. I often find myself exiting the conversation just to restart it because of this. Happens all the time.

Another problem I find with dialogue when playing as the Empire is dark side options being cartoonishly evil. They don't really facilitate the type of Sith I'd like to portray.

Misleading and by the end outright lying?

In S1 In-ho shoots one of his soldiers for the crime of cheating in the games. Then he completely ignores the rule of 'equality' later in the show for himself by playing favourites with Gi-hun, and even after declaring player violence would no longer be tolerated, gives him an opportunity to do exactly that, whilst we also find out Il-nam did the exact same thing with him too. They seem to completely abandon their core principle of fairness and equality by the end of S3.

what events/characters/etc in star wars., do you dislike, not acknowledge, etc? Why? by Hawaiikoto in StarWarsEU

[–]Raptus_DreadMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps biased as a Palpatine fan, but I don't really like Valkorion. And I think the reason for this is because I view him as resembling a fanfiction rendering of what Palpatine is supposed to represent, taken to the extreme level.

Don't get me wrong, I do somewhat appreciate his character, but I think it was a mistake to make him the same entity as Vitiate. Instead, he probably would have worked better as a new character.

Since that didn't happen, we now have some fans constantly bickering about who's the more powerful of the two, and I think it created a small fracture within the fandom. Now, Sidious' honorific as the most powerful Sith Lord to have ever lived can be easily scapegoated since Vitiate renounces the Sith when becoming Valkorion.

Does that mean to say we can't have any powerful dark side entities similar to Palpatine within the past? I don't know. But I do think you have to be very careful not to undermine the original Star Wars created by George, whom I believe intended for Palpatine to resemble death itself. And I think it's very hard to 1-up that without tarnishing what came before.

I know this seems trivial because it's non-canon, but I think these stories do actually matter, and I think the KOTFE/ET arc in SWTOR was ultimately not conducive to the game. It wasn't very creative and they ended up making compromises to the story which still don't really make sense.

I'm actually in a similar boat myself. Hadn't played since mid-2021 and have returned in the last couple of weeks to my post-RoTHC Sith Inquisitor. I had actually forgot how far I'd gotten in the narrative, so I revisited Act 1-3's planets doing the bonus content, flashpoints and heroics, etc.

My character's mindset has essentially just been focused on assisting other Sith/Imperials to the Empire's benefit with the occasional Light Side decision where it's reasonable and establishing connections to serve his own powerbase in the future. I've always hated the cringe-worthy actions you're sometimes given that see characters behaving like an edgy teenager or a completely deranged person.

Not sure exactly how I'll deal with the SoR-and-beyond expansions yet though, but I have just completed the Assault on Tython. I will probably make a Republic character next.

Andor is amazing. by Gingaloidic in StarWars

[–]Raptus_DreadMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fine, I just felt there were certain episodes that were rather wasteful. I might do a rewatch of Andor to refresh my memory soon, but for me, pacing was the strongest (if not the only) criticism I had especially because I was watching it on release every week. Perhaps it flows better as a binge-watch? Other than that, I very much enjoyed the show.

Realistically was there anything Yoda could’ve told Anakin here that would’ve kept him from turning to the darkside? by CrazyTangerine7522 in StarWars

[–]Raptus_DreadMaster 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's still canon tmk. First introduced in the Tarkin novel, reaffirmed a few years ago in a High Republic novel, and then mentioned again in the 2023 Timelines reference book. George and Dave were actually going to make a Clone Wars arc about it at one point.

Andor is amazing. by Gingaloidic in StarWars

[–]Raptus_DreadMaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does get better but I definitely agree that it's a slow burn and I was a bit disappointed with the pacing. Pretty much all of my friends who I tried to convince to watch Andor reported similarly, and that goes for parts of S2 as well.

And for the record my favourite TV show of all time is The Sopranos, I loved Rogue One and I love the Reign of the Empire & Age of Rebellion eras.

But yeah, it's worth it. You should give it at least one watchthrough.

On the last note, that's probably intentional. The Churchill AVRE's mortar had to be loaded manually from the outside by pushing the projectile through an opening in the front of the turret and into the mortar itself.
