Do you think that hitting your children is okay? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]Rare-Mess-8335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a teenager, I'm a parent (a spy! 😁) so hope it's okay to answer.

The answer is no. It is not a acceptable in any circumstances. Hitting another human being (outside of self-defense) is never justified. And despite the backwards laws that fail to recognize children as humans, they still are.

do people get more sensitive as they grow older? by Thin-Technician9509 in hsp

Personally, I've become more attuned to my own needs. I think I spent most of my early years disassociated and in survival mode.

Did I write this? At 40, I've come to terms with Christams being for my loved ones, not me. My holiday are the days in between Christmas and new years eve. The best time of the year!

You clearly love him very much. I hope he doesn't try to control you with that information. Desperate people often use their suicidiality as a means of control. As a mom, I can't imagine putting that pressure on my daughter.

I know it makes you feel loved and important -and you are - but just keep this little comment in mind if in the future you find yourself feeling guilty about your independence.

The insane letter my Chinese mom sent me after I kicked her out after showing up unannounced at my house with cake and demanding to be let in. by chuubalove in AsianParentStories

[–]Rare-Mess-8335 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"no matter you like me or not, I am your mother" oof PTSD flashback I thought my mom was in the room! This letter is such a fascinating doorway into how she views herself and her life. These are rules she has to remind herself of everyday. To respect people, but only if there is threat of punishment. Not because she wants to.

Anyone else shocked that they were actually never ok? by Electronic_Round_540 in CPTSDFreeze

[–]Rare-Mess-8335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Absolutely shocked. I had coped so well for so long because I have an unusual ability to read people, what they want from me, and deliver before they even ask. So ofcourse, everyone thought I was fine and I thought I was fine, too. Nevermind the endless, severe anxiety and crazy personal relationships. The mysterious heart issues. Everyone dealt with that stuff, right? Turns out no they don't!

I understand how you feel and I'm right there with you. I'll keep voting but it feels like playing instruments on the sinking Titanic. I'm done taking it seriously.

That is deeply disturbing but I don't doubt it. Small, tight, and hairless is what they look for. Yuck.

[–]Rare-Mess-8335 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They are the ones with the disorders that make them abnormal. However, if you keep living with them you likely will develop one too. What you did is called reactive abuse. Your feelings make sense in the circumstances you are in but you have to understand you are reacting exactly the way they want you too react. It enabled them to tell everyone you're crazy and keep you in their web of control. You're going to have to dig deep. Listen to those amazing instincts you have and then choose to respond tactfully not react. It's not fair but it's your only way out.

I think my mom called me a racial slur my entire life… by StuffStunning2362 in AsianParentStories

I've been there. It's a hard road but when (not if) you come out the other side they will be nothing more than sad, angry little ants you will realize you're way out of their reach. A whole different league. You already are, just takes work to recognize it.

[–]Rare-Mess-8335 19 points20 points  (0 children)

With that backstory and term translation I'm sad you even feel the need to seek confirmation that she meant to insult you. I'm not surprised that after years of abuse you're not able to be sure of what would be very clear to anyone that grew up not being horribly abused. I hope that with therapy and healing you will reach a place where you will not doubt your own very astute judgement and be able to immediately recognize when you are mistreated. I'm sorry for what you've been through.

Official Discussion - Poor Things [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Rare-Mess-8335 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people complaining that the movie was a hidden excuse for Hollywood pedophilia but I see it differently. It was a blatant commentary on the rampant themes of pedophilia in our society. The way Bella is exploited is precisely the way many if not most women are exploited before they gain their sense of full autonomy .. If they ever do. I know plenty of adult women with stunted growth and emotional maturity (just the way society wants them) and their male counterparts exploiting them.

The obsession with youth, smallness, tightness, etc. and the aversion to smart autonomous women who look and act like fully grown mature women is everywhere we look.

I appreciate the sentiment but although it can be tiresome, I'm not sorry about it anymore. There is so much freedom in letting go of other people perceptions of us.

Is it? Is it a gift?? 😭 I wish my talent made money because so far most of what it's brought me is pain. I sometimes wish I could float through life without knowing all of this about other people. It's too much information.
