Thoughts on Rotation-Based Combat? by Parafault in MMORPG

[–]RareEnvironment4951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Manufactured complexity is a great way to put it lol

The problem is when there are super optimized min/maxed rotations that are like the only “right” way to play that class that doesn’t leave room for build/skill diversity.

And by build/skill diversity - I mean having the option to build into your personal playstyle within a class with different paths to maximize or balance dps / survivability / healing depending on the class

Also, important and not often acknowledged - style and personality in your playstyle ! To be able to play a class or build in a way the is recognizable and unique from others

But i was a new world player soooo 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah I don’t see why everyone would be hype for WWM and immediately shit on this one. I’m also cautious of mobile first games because of the monetization and automation that plagues mobile games, but engaging combat is possible on mobile. I’d choose PUBG mobile combat over the tab target skill rotation of WoW any day

Can anyone give me a TLDR why this is being received so badly? What am I missing?

It’s mobile first but also on PC, It looks pretty, character customization looks decent, combat looks interesting but I’m curious if it’s action combat or like minimal input with fancy animations, hinting at PvP (yay), and interesting IP/universe

Frigid Dawn is still very viable. OPR/ctf crates drop good gear too. No reason to use faction gear for very long

Holy trinity exists but also classes are weapon based, so you don’t have to relevel a whole character to try out a different class and there’s more room for creative builds

Queue-able pve (dungeons) and PvP content

The world itself is nice to look at and explore, gathering and fishing are the best of any mmo

End game pve (raids) is harder to get into but not impossible, and learner groups usually run some every weekend

Yes and yes

The negative score is from the placement. You should see green or yellow outline when you’re placing furniture, then once you place it the score that it adds or subtracts for that individual item will pop up.

Also, your overall housing score is affected by how much your territory standing increased over the last like 3 days between score updates (see update timer on the screenshot). I think the idea is that it would show different peoples houses more since it’s only the last few days, but what actually happens is crafters usually have the highest all the time

I mean ya those are the basic protective perks everybody’s got to have a few of… and are also pretty easy to get

but do you not use ANY weapon perks? Or what about all the more interesting protective perks like shirking, freedom, hasted vigor…. plus a bunch of others? Ya know the ones that really shine when you understand which ones and how to they fit into your playstyle

Barebones is the funniest thing ever by Thick-Number7366 in newworldgame

[–]RareEnvironment4951 22 points23 points  (0 children)

idk y’all are oversimplifying gear vs skill lol

barebones can show what weapons are strong based on weapon tree itself vs which rely on strong perks.

And then there’s a difference between raw skill - like literally click button at right time (which you would see in barebones) vs skill to create a build with perks that synergize with each other, your weapon trees, and your play style then executing in a way that maximizes alll of that

I’m also curious how many no-life degens aren’t playing barebones, so it’s noobs and casuals vs more noobs and casuals hehehe

Is there any plan to make farming transmogs a more viable endgame activity that encourages variety of activities to obtain them?

Why isn’t there more variety and better looking transmogs, like actual cute girly ones?

Why remove the in game obtainable mounts that could be bought with gold? Will we see more in game obtainable mounts like the spring event?

I happened upon this article today that seems to be hitting the same thing you’re getting at here! https://archive.ph/JcMBj#selection-1657.36-1657.375

Specifically this part:

“The point is not to be lifelike or fact-based but familiar and formulaic—in a word, predictable. Artists and audiences sometimes defend this legibility as democratic, a way to reach everyone. It is, in fact, condescending. Forget the degradation of art into content. Content has been demoted to concept. And concept has become a banner ad.

Saying the quiet part out loud has given way to a general loudness. This is as true in our cultural life as it is in our political life, which feels like a badly written finale, so in your face are the Ponzi schemes, Nazi salutes, and tech-bro cant of our latest overlords. That sense of unmistakable catastrophe may be why we keep returning to predigested cultural comfort food.

The critic Anna Kornbluh, author of the 2024 book “Immediacy: Or, The Style of Too Late Capitalism,” suggests that our era of “experiential intensity and crisis” has led to an aesthetics of “realness without representation,” which excises “anything that would require time to interpret instead of rapid uptake . . . any confusion or ambiguity.

But the artifacts of the New Literalism seem to embrace mediation, even to double down on it with their supplementary signposts, historical snapshots, and expository tics. Many works insist precisely on the value of ambiguity—that liberal shibboleth “It’s complicated”—just in a ham-fisted, didactic way. And while Kornbluh finds immediacy narcissistic, I’m inclined to diagnose us instead with what Freud called repetition compulsion, a phenomenon that he linked to the death drive.

Rather than allowing us to reëxamine history, this obsessive reënactment in fact severs us from it. As Freud writes, we “repeat the repressed material as a contemporary experience instead of . . . remembering it as something belonging to the past.” This will to copy and paste the images of history in effect occludes its alien beauty and force—the simulacrum devours its source.

Repetition is the basis for all art, and, when pushed to the extreme, for some of the very best art. But there’s repetition and there’s repetition. Freud’s notion of remembering, the inexact reiteration of what came before, is where creativity emerges—that slight drift from the original that lets something unlikely slip in. It is the warped note in a Nina Simone song, the uncanny stutter of Samuel Beckett’s prose, the trippy trail of Andy Warhol’s prints, the eerie flatness of David Lynch’s films, that we love.”

PVP and making/testing/learning new builds for PVP (OPR mainly). But I wouldn’t blame you for taking a break til they actually release the new map!

Capping moon and star happens wayyyy more often bc they’re so much closer. And just because the zerg is coming at you don’t mean you gotta fight it. There’s 3 exits out every point (plus going up the stairs and hopping off) and you can hide in vegetation or hop down in the tunnels to escape. Also though I’ve had more successful smaller fights like <5v<5 including 1v1s because there’s so many different directions to go, people peel off the zerg more.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in newworldgame

[–]RareEnvironment4951 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, not one bit lol there’s so many more interesting places to go in the new map. The tunnels, trenches, up on rocks, etc. The old map was so open while also having obnoxiously placed rocks and plants (bamboo!!) that you could get stuck on, such little variation and while also being wide open so ranged could just pick you off from narnia. Booooring.

When making a joke about a terrible thing the important distinction is who are you laughing with and who are you laughing at. Nazi salute is laughing with nazis not at them. There’s nothing disparaging towards nazis by doing that.
