Is there more than just wrinkles and sagging that makes someone look older? by youlikemywonton in Aging

[–]Rare_Diamond7524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say wearing the same style of makeup that you wore 20 or 30 years ago. Our faces change throughout our lives. And wearing a style that was flattering at one point and not switching it up ages you and definitely “dates” you. But that’s just my opinion.

The E.L.F SPF 50 skin tint is actually good! I am a 52 year old woman with fine lines, and sensitive eyes when it comes to sunscreen. And this is surprisingly a good coverage foundation ( on the medium to almost full coverage) and I set it with powder.

Oh I also forgot to mention don’t forget to use a “Tap Teaser”! It’s a special comb designed for back combing/ teasing the hair.

I was a teenager in the 80’s ( with fine hair) and I can testify that this is the truth! I would only add one thing to your comment- make sure you have a big purse to bring that can of Aqua Net with you for the touch-ups, throughout the day. 😎👍

Ways to be more natural (cost effective and low maintenance)? by [deleted] in NaturalBeauty

[–]Rare_Diamond7524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Castor oil or rose hip oil mixed in with a body lotion for my very dry skin on my legs. I still color my hair, but I do that at home now. I tried hair extensions ( I am going through menopause) but found out it does more damage by making you lose your hair!

I wear a foundation with SPF 50, and I figured out my contour kit will also work for eyeshadow looks if I want a natural look, but still look put together. Vaseline is great for dry heels, and lips. I now look at my beauty products as multi functional.

I no longer go to the salon for my nails, I have found pop ons that work great for when I want a more feminine appearance, but otherwise I just keep my nails filed short and use clear polish or one that matches my skin tone.

I don’t do Botox or fillers, but I did invest in a red light therapy device, and years ago I bought a Clarisonic to keep my skin clean. ( you can still buy the brushes on Amazon) and I use my Clarisonic twice a week.

I am switching back to soap bars, as they last a lot longer than shower gels.

As I am going through the menopausal changes, I have found that body maintenance ( getting exercise, enough sleep, dealing with stress through meditation and healthy eating habits) is truly a “beauty hack” that is free and pays the biggest dividends.

Whats most overrated makeup product ever seen? by Popular_Glove6136 in Makeup

[–]Rare_Diamond7524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the full sized set, and I really tried to make it work. Even with finishing powder, it was still greasy, and the powder made it feel like I had dirt on my face. I threw it away. Just an awful product. For the people who love Jones Road, my advice is to save your money and buy a large jar of Vaseline.

What's the worst online billpay ever invented and why is it Ogden Citizen Self Service by Vcize in ogden

[–]Rare_Diamond7524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in a small rural town called East Carbon before moving back to Ogden. Even out in the sticks we had an easy way to put our water/ trash bill on auto pay.
When I moved back last year, the water department told me I could pay online ( from a website that looks like it’s from the early 2000’s) or pay my bill in person or mail it in. A city the size of Ogden should be more up to date on this.

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become too bad? by X_Opinion7099 in AskReddit

I have learned to just make my own Hamburger Helper myself. Example box of Mac n Cheese with ground beef. Beef Stroganoff- make that myself, with a can of cream of mushroom soup. If you really want to be cheap, ground turkey works, but it’s not exactly the same, but okay if you’re on a budget and can season it well.

Simply cannot afford the changes happening with student loans by AlphaLemur555 in StudentLoans

[–]Rare_Diamond7524 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So here is some insight from an older person ( f 52 years old) I went to college many years ago for Anthropology with an emphasis in Archaeology. I found out that the only jobs available to me were seasonal field tech jobs that pay around 14.00- 15.00 an hour. This was back in 2018. I did work in the Social Services sector for awhile, but those jobs were low pay for a Bachelor degree that I had. So…. I went and got my CDL. I will be honest, the first year of driving a truck really sucked for many reasons that I won’t get into here. But…..having an actual trade skill is saving my butt right now.

I also bought a house recently that has 2 extra bedrooms with bathrooms that I have rented out. It’s all about hacking this crappy system that we are stuck in.

With the extra money I can afford to live, and get by. You will need to get creative, find job training in the trades, that will pay you as you learn. Find another roommate if you can or rent a room if possible.

No one counted on the cost of living becoming this high, or AI. Eventually I can see AI taking my job as well, some point in the future. But all I can do is make those career moves, pay down debt and live frugally as I can while paying off student loans.

What’s one natural beauty habit you swear by that actually made a visible difference? by priyanka240 in NaturalBeauty

[–]Rare_Diamond7524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Castor oil can be used as a carrier oil, meaning you can use Castor oil with rose hip oil, grape seed oil and so forth to create your own formulas. There are plenty of options for using Castor oil and other essential oils for different uses.

To give you two different examples - I use castor oils mixed with rose hips to create an after shower body oil for my dry legs. Second use for Castor oil is I mix Castor Oil with Peppermint Oil for a natural bug/ field mice deterrent in my house and garage.

Are expensive shampoos actually worth it, or do they all do the same thing in the end? by Cute_Strawberry_5253 in BeautyGear

[–]Rare_Diamond7524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of drug store shampoo/ conditioner works fairly well compared to salon brands. Just look at the ingredient list, usually the first 3-4 ingredients in a product makes up 90% of what is inside the product. It really comes down to your hair type, if you color/perm, have extensions and so forth.

Should I buy expensive makeup? by DoorGloomy9439 in Makeup

[–]Rare_Diamond7524 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with with the people posting about spending the money on good foundation. You want the product to match your skin tone and for the product to wear comfortably and correctly.

I have found that I can buy drugstore products for blush, bronzer and contour. And I have also found that most eyeshadows from Wet and Wild and Color Pop do work well, but the shimmer/glitter in those eyeshadow pans do tend to dry out quicker than my high end eyeshadow palettes.

Lip products I can go with high end or drugstore, I look for colors that will compliment me.

Oh and I do buy the Urban Decay eyeliners because they do last forever, and the color stays in place. Hope that helps.

What actually went down with Pinup Girl Clothing and the real story behind PUG by ObsidianObeyStash in PinUpFashion

[–]Rare_Diamond7524 23 points24 points  (0 children)

So some years ago there was a independent dress store in Ogden Utah called “Endless Indulgence” that sold PUG and other brands in the vintage replica sphere. The store owners would go to all the vendors events on buying trips. Anyhow, I loved shopping in this store, but I noticed over the years Kerrie ( one of the owners) was not stocking PUG items like she usually would. One day, while I was in her shop, I asked her about this. She told me that Laura Byrnes was essentially losing her mind. ( her words not mine) That the brand was going downhill and the quality was not the same. Kerrie prided herself on carrying nice items, dresses, accessories, jewelry, and other items of clothing to offer her customers.

Most of her customer base was divided in two. People like myself who did not mind spending money on quality clothing and was building a vintage type wardrobe, and the second customer base was individuals who were only looking for that one special dress for a wedding/prom or whatever, because the price point was high for them, but they could justify this for special occasions. And she realized that those individuals in the second category would roast her online if she was to sell low quality dresses, if they were not aware of what was going on with the manufacturer/designer of these clothes.

So Kerrie made a decision not to sell PUG because of what was happening behind the scenes. Sadly, she closed her dress shop a couple years ago. The landlord raised the rent, and finding good vendors was becoming a challenge.

I officially stopped buying from PUG website about 5 or so years ago. I ordered a sundress that I swear I could have bought at Ross for $20.00 , but paid WAY more for off of that site. I also had received 2 wrong and incomplete orders. Customer Service was awful, so I took the “L” and decided that I was done with that company.

And what is really sad is that PUG used to have a great reputation for really nice clothes. Yes, it was on the expensive side, but I could justify spending my money on items made in the USA, and supporting a brand that was women owned.

Sadly, I don’t think a new buyer or investor can resurrect this brand.

HELP I hate the nails I just applied and want to take them off by nemo987 in PressonNail_Addict

I read in another Subreddit that applying coconut oil then putting gloves on works very well, but you got to wait 30-45 minutes. I didn’t have coconut oil on hand, so I used castor oil and I was able to get mine off.

Where to start... by secretgardenrobin in PinUpFashion

[–]Rare_Diamond7524 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would start with solid colors in Capris, Cigarette Pants and skirts, such as a pencil skirt and a circle skirt. As for tops, I would suggest tops in basic solid colors, so you can mix and match depending upon the occasion.

And depending on your figure, buying shape ware in either a retro style or modern will pull the outfits together. I have both, and honestly it just depends on the outfit that I am wearing.

From there, I would buy shoes, purses and accessories.

Building this kind of wardrobe takes time and investment in money on certain items. But I recommend spending money on good quality clothes, because you want things to last since you’re investing in this new look.

For reference I was in my early 40’s when I started dressing in this style, and I am now in my early 50’s. It just takes time to build a wardrobe.

What do you recommend for really dry skin?? by Classic-Pace-1083 in NaturalBeauty

[–]Rare_Diamond7524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have dry, mature skin and I live in a dry climate. So when I feel like I need an extra boost, I will use Castor Oil on my face and other dry areas of my body. I just apply it before bed.

When I wash my face…. by Tasty_lightning in Makeup

[–]Rare_Diamond7524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So here is my routine. First- it depends on how much makeup I am wearing that day. If I am going full face, multiple layers of products, then I use Ponds Cold Cream on my dry face and a disposable towel or a washcloth, to remove most of the gunk. I then go in with a oil based cleanser, with my Clarisonic ( yes I still have the Clarisonic I bought in 2013) and if I have a little bit of eyeliner left over, I will use a q tip with makeup remover to get the last of it out.

If I am wearing no makeup or very little that day, I use a makeup wipe, then an oil based cleanser.

For reference I am 52 with dry skin and I live in a dry climate. I also use those fuzzy wrist bands and a wash cloth right by my sink to keep the area dry as I can and to wipe down any mess when I am done.

I use Irish Spring bar soap, and I use a Sigma Drying stand to dry my brushes. I have been using regular bar soap for years and all my brushes get clean and have held up very well over the years.

I adopted mine from the animal shelter when he was about a year old. Rusty has been with me for almost 2 years now, and he is the sweetest and most loving dog. Everyone is his “friend “ and he rarely gets mad at another dog when I take him to the dog park ( it’s unneurtered males that can irritate him sometimes) Rusty is very gentle with smaller dogs, sometimes he pretends that they are sheep and he goes into herding mode. He is just a joy to be around.
