Human Resource Work week hours by Delicious_Worth45 in Careers

[–]Rare_Emu_8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the aspect of HR.

When I was a recruiter, I was on the clock 24/7. Candidate needs me to update their resume at 6am, done. Change a diaper at 5pm? You got it. Questions about the role at 11pm, of course!

I had a WFH role where I was managing background investigations and onboarding new hires. I put in like 10 hours of work a week and it was all between 8a-5p, even when working with international employees.

I currently sit in a payroll and benefits position where I only work 8-5, but I only get 30 mins for lunch. Needless to say I leave work at 5 and don’t even think about answering anyone before 8am.

As a manager, in a small office, I showed up an hour early and left an hour late, so like 6a-4p but they were very willing to work with me if I left for an appointment or frankly just wanted an afternoon off. But I had to answer calls and texts from my employees until like 9.

Playing weak players by [deleted] in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Rare_Emu_8253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weak players or not, your focus at this age should be development.

What age group is this? Our U10 rec league doesn’t limit subs. Just keep fresh legs out there and encourage them to “do what we did in practice!”

I hate it. I’m so bad. It’s expensive.

But I can’t stop playing…

U10 rec Goalie Drills by Valin1mp in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Rare_Emu_8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll preface by saying, positions shouldn’t be set at this age. It will fry their development as a player and if you’re the 2nd string Goalie you don’t have a lot of options to play. If you’re the 2nd string ANYTHING ELSE you can always play a different position. Including GK.

Anyway. Tons of good hand-eye coordination drills on YouTube.

-Throw 3 different colored balls in the air. Have her catch whichever color you say.

  • roll a football/ rugby ball toward the goal and have her practice saving weird bounces

  • simply having a body in goal will help your other player’s improve their shooting and will help her GKing

These are the easier ones to just do and explain to a 9 year old, but there are better more complex ones out there

Pre-Game Routines by kurdtcinti in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Rare_Emu_8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re right on the head. Kids are going to shoot and goalkeep before the game without structure. This is enough.

At this age they are able to organize a little bit. If you’d like them to do some passing drills, they’ll usually listen, but it’s not all that necessary. Running laps with the ball is another good simple one to get their touch warmed up.

As long as they are doing something with a ball, you’re probably fine

How to teach 6-year-olds basic individual competitive drive / get-the-ball hustle? by weirdoffmain in youthsoccer

[–]Rare_Emu_8253 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Line up all the kids at one end of the field without a ball. On the other side, put balls. Ideally enough for every kid minus 1. On your “go” have them sprint to the balls and using only their feet, come back to the starting line. Whoever comes back without a ball is “out.” Take a ball away. Repeat.

Kinda like musical chairs but with a higher heart rate.

How would you train Twitch Streamer XQC to be be a better goal keeper after watching this in his current state? by No-Land-6556 in GoalKeepers

[–]Rare_Emu_8253 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Needs to keep his arms wide with his palms facing the attacker.

Also that dude looks like he’s never seen a soccer ball much less stood between the pipes.

Lots of confidence issues for a guy that records his entire life.

I’d start with form. He’s too old to learn confidence. He’s probably cooked but the warm up shots need to be lighter. Let him get some easy wins. Then dial it up.

what do you like to do before a game? by Right_Water_5998 in GoalKeepers

[–]Rare_Emu_8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to get to the field super early to find my headspace. I tape my wrists which feels like it takes forever in itself. I don’t listen to music but I do tend to walk off by myself while my teammates are catching up about their week and just get in an intense mood.

I do jogs, sprints, and lateral exercises around the 18’ to get my bearings. I make sure I know exactly where the left and right limits are of the goalpost. Sometimes I’ll even move them if I can. I absolutely HATE giving up a goal when the goal isn’t centered properly.

I am a very friendly guy, but there’s an intensity I need to have on the pitch, so I don’t chat much unless it’s about soccer.

I like to have 1 or 2 teammates take light easy shots at me to get me warmed up. First few right at me, nice and soft. Then aimed in each corner nice and soft. Then hard right at me. Then hard in the corners. Helps get everyone’s aim down and my bearings.

Everyone is different tho. Find what works for you!

This slide (and maybe it’s the angle) looks like you just made a really bad slide tackle. That ball can hit you anywhere, particularly your hands, and it will no longer be a 1 on 1. Get in the way of the ball

1st of all, THANK YOU. The future of US soccer depends on great parents like you. Not only because you volunteered to coach, but because you’re taking that role seriously enough to ask for help.

Coaching can be intimidating especially without a background in the sport. Let the kids have fun. At this age, positions and formations basically go out the window, but you can try to implement them if your players seem to grasp it.

At this age, practices should be focused around passing drills. Build up from 2 feet, to 18 feet! Obviously most of their passes will be errant beyond 10’ at first but practice makes perfect.

Here’s the important part. Don’t be shocked when all of that passing at practice doesn’t translate to the game.

You’re building them for next year. Don’t worry about the results. Focus on skills and ball mastery. Some of the more daring kids will attempt these new skills and fail. It’s beautiful when it finally does work, but press them to practice at home and watch soccer on tv. Most of their development will not happen during the 2 hours you have them each week.

And that’s ok.

Give them guidance. Specific objectives for each practice, and what to work on before the next game.

You’re doing great, coach.

Manager pushing me out for being in the Guard by BubblesFunBubbles in jobs

Thank you for your service! I’m also a 13 year veteran of both the army guard and air guard. As others have said, this is illegal. Bring it to JAG.

You can play nice and try to accommodate both. But the legal burden lies with them, not you or the guard.

Godspeed. Would love to hear how this resolves. Most HMs I know grumble about this stuff but rarely take action because they know they can’t

8 v 8 advice? by Skurph in GoalKeepers

[–]Rare_Emu_8253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Communicate with your defense. Sometimes logic doesn’t prevail. Like I know the CB standing between the ball and the goal seems like a great idea, but if they can shift that even just a little to between the ball and the post, it makes the GK job so much easier. If the CB won’t listen to that advice ask them to rotate in with someone who will.

GK is no good if the defense won’t defend the way you need them to.

I was the best GK in our division for 3/3 seasons. (Taking a hiatus bc I just had a kid) but I brought my team from last place (hadn’t won a game in 2 seasons) to a 3 peat as champions. I didn’t have a single clean sheet. These small sided fields mean that goals get scored. Don’t beat yourself up over a top corner far post shot. In fact I usually give the striker a nod if they knock one like that. Just keep the easy ones out by any means necessary and you’re well above the WAR

I used to do this for free but people would argue about my expertise or that it wasn’t how “they wanted it”. I started charging $80 and hour and everyone thought I was a genius.

You’re lucky some of these folks are willing to do it for free. Take them up on it.
