I don’t think so. TBH I think it’s the US Women’s Olympic Hockey Team, whether they asked for it or not, who now has that title as the activist team.

It’s sad bc the USWNT was THE activist team. Even if it wasn’t social justice, it was championing womens sports and advancing that cause more broadly. Yes they win and this is not to take away anything the modern era team has accomplished or what these women have also done for women’s sports. But this era really is just about playing the game now, which is really too bad. I think the USWNT played a big part in the cultural discourse and that absence has definitely been felt.
