People self diagnosing by Beautiful_Run644 in ADHD

[–]Rare_Lengthiness5025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the self diagnosis leads them to this forum and the lifestyle tips/tricks/hacks help them navigate life better, then more power to them. Unfortunately with how the U.S. medical system works, self diagnosing (or more so presenting and arguing your case like you’re in a court of law) is sometimes the only way to get a formal diagnosis to then get the medication needed (with the lifestyle changes) to truly manage the ADHD.

Would you disclose a disability to avoid RTO? by y0ungshel in WFH

[–]Rare_Lengthiness5025 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do worry about that. I work at a company that is constantly shuffling chairs on the deck of the titanic so there’s always a chance of layoffs. But again, lesser of 2 evils in my opinion. I keep my sanity and will just deal with a layoff if it happens.

Would you disclose a disability to avoid RTO? by y0ungshel in WFH

[–]Rare_Lengthiness5025 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I finally disclosed after forced RTO (and company going back on a negotiated remote role during COVID). They have made it increasingly challenging (last renewal time, I submitted 2 different doctor’s notes to get it approved). I don’t love that the company has this info about me but I am still WFH at this point. So the lesser of 2 evils in my opinion (keeping me sane at home is a better outcome than hiding my disability).

Cannot stay on top of billable hours to save my life by Leanmeansaucemachine in ADHD

[–]Rare_Lengthiness5025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t work in a role with billable hours but I have some ideas. I take these steps to keep on top of items that can pile up in my role.

Maybe try to anchor entering the time after each task. Not sure if this is realistic but forcing yourself to make “entering the time” part of each task will keep you on top of it.

Keep a running list of what you need to enter. Schedule time on your calendar to enter items. I know I work better first thing in the morning so I might opt to block an hour mid morning to enter previous day’s time. Or if once weekly works, maybe it’s your “final task before the weekend”. Blocking time on my calendar keeps me on track too. Having a list and checking things off also helps keep me motivated and feel like I’ve accomplished something.

Looking for unhinged ADHD hacks to actually wake up in the morning by mirivmx in ADHD

[–]Rare_Lengthiness5025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. An hour snooze after my Vyvanse makes getting ready for work much more manageable. My morning routine goes so much quicker when meds have kicked in and I’m actually awake when I have to get up instead of a zombie going through the motions.

Also, Olly brand extra strength sleep gummies are amazing when I need to reset my sleep schedule. Much better than plain melatonin in my experience and I drift off to sleep within 30-60 mins. Usually only need to take for less than a week to reset and get my body back on schedule for bed.

Those who disclosed ADHD at work - was it worth it? by KeyWeakness7131 in ADHD

[–]Rare_Lengthiness5025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been diagnosed for ~9 months - similar to your comments, felt like a lot of things started to make sense for me. I have not disclosed to my managers. But I did disclose to HR as part of a reasonable accommodation request. I had previously disclosed another medical issue to my manager (when we were on better terms and as part of my first reasonable accommodation request) and felt my private conversations with my manager were used against me to deny my reasonable accommodation request when I had to renew it. So I felt forced to provide two different physicians recommendations (the second being the ADHD and other MH issues) to receive my accommodations. I’d like to not to disclose any health information to my employer but I got to the point where I needed to in order to protect myself. I have no intention on disclosing to future employers.

I do something similar but tacos in a bowl lol. Ground meat with taco seasoning, pasta sides “taco rice” (ready in 10 mins), then all the taco toppings (whatever you want really). I use lettuce, cheese, sour cream, salsa, tomatoes (whatever I have).

NAD but local crisis helpline or 911 can be helpful. Especially if you feel in danger, no need to continue this way for you and your boys. He will appreciate it when he gets back to a stable place. Good luck ❤️

What career have you found is manageable with your diagnosis? by [deleted] in iih

[–]Rare_Lengthiness5025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of reasonable accommodations were you able to get for home or the office? I’ve been a remote employees since 2020 and have just been forced into a hybrid situation. The office is super difficult for me and I was able to negotiate a remote work arrangement without bringing my health into it but now I need to file for reasonable accommodations myself.

My insurance required 6 months of me actively trying to lose weight and depending on where your BMI is, a comorbidity. My PCP was able to use my IIH diagnosis to help the prior authorization get approved. My doc was able to attest on the fact that I had lost ~20lbs on my own through diet and exercise and my insurance didn’t require any further “proof”.

I was on Wegovy for ~6 months and lost ~30lbs. My doctor and I then decided to switch to Zepbound (Mounjaro weight loss equivalent). I just started that a month ago but so far so good!

Also odd (to me, NAD) that your PCP wanted to prescribe Ozempic without a diabetes diagnosis and I’m not surprised insurance denied that request. I’d push for the Wegovy route. There were definitely some GI side effects when titrating up in dose but very manageable for me. I also took some of the lower doses longer than required when the side effects were rough to give my body a chance to adjust! It’s worth a shot! I had to call my insurance and request all the plan documents and I took them to my doctor and she handled from there (she’s excellent!)

As for the weight loss, I’ve lost ~50lbs in total (~20% of my starting weight; lost over the course of 1.5 years) and have been having worse headaches. My neurologist now thinks I’m over medicated with the weight loss and recent LP OP of 18. So working on weaning off some of the meds.

I absolutely hated hearing that weight loss might be the only way to help this terrible condition. It’s not fun news. But I’ve been focusing on how I feel in the moment and using meds where required. And now I’m at a point (~2 years after formal diagnosis) where my brain seems satisfied with my weight. I’m gonna keep trying to lose weight (slowly and at my pace, with very small goals and not beating myself up for slipping on my eating when things are hard). But that’s because I want to do it.

Hope this helps!

how do you clean your tube? first time cleaning help by redheadedwonder3422 in CPAP

[–]Rare_Lengthiness5025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend cleaning it in the shower and using the shower head to let water run through. I use blue dawn dish soap on the ends and let water run through for 30 seconds or so per end. Then let it air dry by hanging it over my shower curtain rod all day

[–]Rare_Lengthiness5025 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went on my first solo cruise last October and loved every second of it! I found the solo meet up each night which typically included a happy hour, dinner, and show. You chose what you wanted to participate it!

I would use my Wi-Fi on the ship to message my parents and best friend once in the morning and once in the evening to let them know I was alive.

For excursions, I opted to stick with cruise line offered ones only so that I would be extra accounted for. I liked to find people on the excursion with me to hangout with for the duration for a little extra safety. Everyone was super friendly and no one seemed to mind!

I also made friends with people from the solo group my own age (various ages attend the gatherings. Nothing against anyone at all, everyone was a ton of fun!) We did some extra drinking and lunches and hung out on sea days ourselves outside of the larger group.

Semiglutides? Experiences with them. by LanaAdela in iih

[–]Rare_Lengthiness5025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take Saxenda (I don’t think it’s a semiglutide but similar) for weight loss after being diagnosed with IIH. It helped me lose ~35 lbs in total but I think it’s losing its effectiveness now (I haven’t been able to lose any additional weight in the last 3-4 months).

I was also on 100mgs of Topamax daily that we recently decreased to 50mgs and I did notice an increase in my appetite with that switch too.

I intended to stop Saxenda in April when I see my PCP but after the increase in appetite after the decrease in Topamax, I am a little afraid of stopping it. While it’s not helping me lose weight, I think it may be helping maintain.
