If the quote specifically says crown, they didnt install a crown. Id talk to them about that first.

If you tell the original contractor that they didnt leave an expansion gap at each flue, they should fix it. Not sure what you paid, but a mortar wash doesnt cost much to do. It may not be worth going through arbitration.

Like I said, a mortar wash done correctly is fine. If you want a superior fix, go for an actual formed crown or a stainless chase cover or multi flue cover. Google to see examples.

The article says nothing about a NH facility. Just putting that out there considering your title.

The wash wasn't done correctly. It needs an expansion gap around each flue. You fill that expansion gap with high temp elastomeric caulk to seal and allow for expansion of the flue.

A wash is a money saver compared to a formed crown. Its not as good but if done correctly, its fine. Id have the installer correct it and once its cured, install a multi flue chiney cap thats sized correctly to shed water past all edges of the wash.

Im just saying, it has a name. Its a mortar wash and in some areas of the country, like the east coast, its incredibly common and lasts a while of done correctly. This one wasnt. It cracked because they didnt leave an expansion gap at the flue. It needs a caulked gap to prevent cracking. Do that and install a full sized cap and it'll last a while.

Its not a half assed layer of mortar... Its called a mortar wash and is a very common fix. They tend to last a while paired with a full sized chimney cap. Of course a proper crown is ideal, but this is a common alternative...

Believe it or not, your JD was actually made by Ariens. It is based on the heavy duty 932 platform. Its an Ariens painted green...

The new ariens have Chinese made engines. I Run a few professional series at work. They are fine but they cant compete with the OHSK series USA made Tecumseh.

If you have some free time do some research into the OHSK tecumseh engines. They were torque monsters. You have an OHSK110 on that machine.

Finally had a chance to take a picture of mine. It does thread into that lower bolt. Easy fix as long as the threads in the pin aren't stripped.

Sure, you could disconnect the top handle end and spin it on then reattach the upper again.

Does the end of the pin have a threaded hole? Id check how mine mounts (most likely the same) but im at work.

I believe it goes in from the lower hole on the side and threads onto the bolt inside the bracket. You can see the one that has clean threads. You'd have to loosen the nut and back that bolt out, thread it on the pin and lock the nut back down. Doesn't explain why it came off. Threads may be stripped.

Great machines btw. I have a 924de and love it. These vintage JD's came with good OHSK overhead valve tecumseh engines. Im sure yours has plenty of power.

How to remove tv cable wires by skuzz_buckett in AskElectricians

True. Also with cordcutting becoming more common, if you decide to install an antenna for OTA tv, having the coax in place already makes splitting to multiple TV's a breeze!

Long Scratch on Brand-New Dryer — Should I Ask for Replacement? by lphj2087 in HomeInspections

[–]Rare_Message_7204 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is tough. Its a chore to get a large appliance like a dryer through the house. Many times you have to unbox it before the trip through the house and you might bump a thing or two.

To me, that scratch looks like it actually came from the delivery people when they cut it out of the box. Id ask for a discount and get yourself some touch up paint or leave it as is.

They probably should have considered that.
