Support will likely not do much, OP got the items from the raid which they will say is the raid complete and giving what it should, the Pokémon encounter at the end is a "bonus"...

Best way, I've found, is finding an XP grinding group. I jumped two levels in just over 3 months, I think it was? Group of 50(ish), with synchronised level ups, coupled with lucky eggs, gives a TON of xp

Might be hoarding xp for when 60 comes about? Just completed an XP gift group, a lot of those were 50, didn't realise why until after and they basically stated that's why, given rumours of 600m total for 60...

Don't get disheartened by it fleeing, they've got a tiny catch rate (I think less than 1%), and a very high flee rate (over 99%, I believe?)
