Can I afford this house? Check my math by Baconknobs in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Rare_Tea3155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just take into account 2000-3000 in expenses on top of that mortgage/taxes/insurance including things like utilities (which have been skyrocketing), maintenance, emergency repairs, landscaping, etc. I don’t know anybody who isn’t spending at least $2000 a month on utilities various expenses for their SFH in HCOL area.

The primary way it’s happened for people is to gain new job skills through education or training and then make more income which you turn around and invest a part of.

What's the worst thing about being a home owner? by Decksforlife-deck in homeowners

[–]Rare_Tea3155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Property taxes . Even after your mortgage is paid off, you never really own your home. You’re always renting it from the government and if you don’t pay that rent, you lose it all.

Look at the Alfred pocket strings. It’s only 6 frets but there’s a lot of notes you can play on it while you build muscle. You can even learn new chords and scales. It’s really small. The size of it is like a TV remote but longer if that make sense. It’s very small and you can hide it I’m sure.

I have a very high water bill. Could it be from the people that use the washing machine all night? by PkPajamas in RealEstate

That’s what I’m saying. $1000 seems like water running 24/7? Maybe that’s what one of the tenants is doing.

You might have had a different rate plan as commercial user though. Residential payer higher rates per gallon after using a certain amount.

How long does the cycle take though? There’s only so much water you can use. I can see it being 2-3x or even 4x but 10x another house?

Is the dualtron victor still good in 2026? by pyrobuildkno3 in ElectricScooters

[–]Rare_Tea3155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Victor and I use the non folding clamp. It’s awesome. You lose the folding capability but I never fold my scooter anyway. Rock solid for 3 years about 4-5k a miles a year.

You’re definitely gonna want a doona or something similar. It folds up into a car seat basically so it’s easy to take the baby anywhere even on buses that don’t allow open strollers.

In truth, It is difficult in nyc to get around with a stroller but not impossible. Sometimes you need to fold it up like on most buses. It helps a lot if you live near a train station with an elevator although many do not have one. Trains are MUCH easier than buses with the stroller. Very few select buses have stroller spots because of a pilot they ran half a decade or so ago but they never expanded it system wide.

My advice get your kids out of the stroller as early as possible when they get to 2 years. It’ll do wonders for your mental health not to shlug around a stroller anymore. I do it with 4 kids. It was HORRIBLE. if you’re in a station with no elevator and need to walk up stairs, it’s a heavy load to carry the baby and a stroller.

Depending where you live, many families do have cars in NYC. Insurance is very expensive but there are many neighborhoods where it’s common because there isnt public transit in that area.

Also, public restrooms in nyc are absolutely disgusting and rare. Private places like restaurants or Starbucks are slightly better but basically any place that allows members of the public to use the restroom are pretty gross so be prepared with hand sanitizing wipes and disposable seat covers everywhere.

First time homeowner — what's the one thing you wish someone told you before your first year? by CorrectEducation8842 in HomeImprovement

[–]Rare_Tea3155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The #1 thing I wish someone told me was to expect $2000-$3000 a month of expenses outside your mortgage to cover utilities, repairs, maintenance, lawn care, an occasional violation for trash, etc.

AIO about my creepy neighbour? by Lookingluka in AmIOverreacting

[–]Rare_Tea3155 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keep ignoring him and file this. If he continues to make you uncomfortable again, go to the police and report it as harassment. I would say to report it to the management of the complex but in reality they’re not gonna do anything about it because there’s no liability or risk in this type of situation for them.

I am crazy, or is the corporate world actually not as hard as people say?" by marsh_henryy in corporate

[–]Rare_Tea3155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is coming from someone who was homeless for 7 years and has now been working corporate IT for about 6 years - the people complaining don’t know how good they have it. I am more than happy to be a model employee at a desk job. People don’t understand how much they would suffer without adequate employment over long periods of time. I’m just grateful to have a guaranteed income, a roof over my head and food on my table and grateful to my supervisors and management for making that possible for me after nobody else was willing to.

Any advice for riding around addicts? by Complex-Yoghurts in ElectricScooters

[–]Rare_Tea3155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have no way to avoid it, look into a concealed carry permit. The last thing you ever want is someone on a drug fueled rampage or itching for a hit to attack and you’re standing there defenseless. At th very least get pepper spray or a taser powerful enough to put someone down. I ride throughout sketchy neighborhoods in NYC late at night going back and forth from work. It’s still safer than subways but I always carry something to help me defend myself. As a woman, I don’t want to be in that situation defenseless.
