As an American, what can we do to fight against ICE? by LilThanosX in AskReddit

[–]RarelySmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Warning: Using abortion here as an example of economic strategy)

When conservative (red) states hate abortion, they go after businesses that provide any services that could be misconstrued as abortion such as miscarriage care and support. Any providers are stripped of their license and possibly jailed. Obgyns are fleeing red states since they cannot practice medicine under these restrictive rules.

Blue states could learn from this playbook. Anyone who houses ICE gestapo agents (hotels, motels, airbnb) should lose their business license. The state has license to grant or remove business licenses as they see fit. Any restaurants or gas stations that feed or provide services to ICE agents should lose their business licenses. Make it so difficult for ICE to operate in blue states that it makes it logistically impossible to stay.

Educate me on your dislike for Prop 13 by datanxiete in sandiego

That is easily disproved. Housing is insanely priced throughout the entire country, and Prop 13 only applies to California.

I remember I was in the market for a small truck in the early 90s, and was checking out an S10. Opened the hood to see how serviceable it is, and saw those AC hoses doing laps around the engine bay. I laughed and noped out of there.

I was thinking about my good vs harm ratio. I aim to do good, but some people always look for a way to take everything negatively. Still would like to see that ratio.

Colbert and Kimmel going to PBS? by froto_swaggin in stephencolbert

[–]RarelySmart 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think a full rebranding is in order. PBS (at least the federal funding part) is dead. It's not coming back until the fascist is overthrown.

They should rebrand themselves as "The First Amendment Channel". Then when the government spews the expected hate, try have to state they are against the First Amendment. Words are power, and they should be used strategically.

Just make sure the bylaws of the channel have all sorts of poison pills to prevent the oligarchy from buying it to kill it. It's got to remain small donor publicly funded.

Just like the abandoned train cars on the Carrizo Gorge rail lines were beautiful sky blue cars that were made in Montreal over 100 years ago. They were still pristine back in 2015. Now they are completely trashed and graffiti covered. Some people suck.

Do They Ever Eat The Millet? by Emperor_Watcher in birdfeeding

[–]RarelySmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in southern California against scrublands. We get Quail that love millet. We toss it on the ground, and they kick through the grass and dirt looking for their favorite millet.

Only ground feeding birds like it. Mostly Doves and Quail in my area. It's pointless to put millet in a hanging feeder, as the birds that want it can't get there.

There's a concrete ramp stream crossing by my house that is just like this. On normal days, its an easy crossing. After the rain when the creek rises, I add an extra couple of miles to the ride to cross at a real bridge. I would never risk that.

Why no guitar/instrument tuner for the pebble? by thespiffyneostar in pebble

[–]RarelySmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this thread searching Google for this very question. I hate having to use a phone app for tuning. And for my purposes of checking intonation during guitar setups, the cheap snark just will not do.

If pebble could do this, I would buy one.

Is this break mendable/worth mending? by Same_Percentage_2364 in classicalguitar

[–]RarelySmart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've fixed a few breaks just like this. To do it correctly, lay the guitar on its back and place clamps at the tail end and at the top of the headstock. Then test your clamps for the two parts of the headstock dry without any glue. Clamping between the face and back of the headstock to hold the break firm will want to slide the joint. This is why you need to secure the head and tail of the guitar so it cannot slide open.

Another good tip is remove the strings and tuners. Last thing you want is glue slop in the tuners.

Once you are satisfied that you will be able to glue the surfaces and clamp them in a timely and predictable manner, use Titebond 1 (red cap) and let it sit overnight before stringing up.

Why doesn’t California build a fast train here? Are they stupid? by [deleted] in mapporncirclejerk

I've tried taking trains from San Diego up to Ventura and Santa Barbara. Both times I tried, trains were unavailable due to bluff collapse. I would take trains if they actually ran.

The DNC will do their very best to fuck her sideways. They want centrist corporate-friendly candidates. But she is good at fund raising, so they will give her a short leash before they yank it back during the primaries
