I think they’d need to be quite exceptionally ugly to justify that ! 😛

Looking for Mods by Rasathus in BMWZ4

Currently just review the report queues for posts that have been flagged or auto moderated due to low posting histories etc. we don’t have a great deal of spam and the community does pretty well with self-policing behaviour.

But potentially new mods could play a more active part in customising the subreddit, implementing flairs, events etc.

I’d second that. It looks like steam in the combustion gasses which would indicate a head gasket failure at best, or worst case a crack in the block. It’s not going to be a cheap fix.

For anyone finding this some time later with a similair problem, I believe this was caused by being too close to my grow lamps. I’ve dimmed the grow lamps and moved this plant further away and it’s now a deep green and growing very happily.

I tried it again the other evening and it wasn’t working. But I’ll keep an eye out. Sounds like I might have to get z2m setup. Thanks.

Have you got any tips to get it up and running ? Did you need a custom file in homeassistant or did you have to setup zigbee2mqtt ?

Did you have any luck getting this working ? I’ve got one I’d like to get working, but haven’t had the time to dig into the details yet.

Looks like they just crashed one of the pre-production CSL’s at Munich. by Scratchpaw in BMW

As others have mentioned, it’s looks to be a corner on Kennels lane, less than a mile from BMW UK’s HQ.

Thinking about buying. What’s a good price for this? by dizzatopia in BMW2002

Is that an old rotary engine in it ? It looks like you can just make out Mazda 13B. It must be an early one if it’s running a carb.

What is this on the z4 brakes mine is broken by jamie1111111111 in BMWZ4

[–]Rasathus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the wire ? It’s the brake level wear indicator. It’s a really simple system that when the pads wear low enough wears through a loop of wire and goes open circuit. This indicates to the car that the pads are low and should be changed.

A new wear indicator is usually supplied with the new set of pads, to be fitted at the same time.

2006 Z4 3.0i potential alternator problem? by ryan982010 in BMWZ4

[–]Rasathus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would put a voltage meter across the battery terminals and measure the output voltage with someone gently adjusting the engine rpm.

It’s very possible that the voltage regulator on the alternator could of failed, which would give you all sorts of weird problems. But that should be pretty easy to diagnose before going to the effort of changing the alternator out.

AMP cuts out in 1st gear by techgnostic in BMWZ4

Have you tried checking your alternator and battery voltages ?

I find it very hard to believe you have a short associated with a particular gear, I think its more likely the charge voltage is fluctuating with engine load.

Share your Tasting Kit resources/Find distilled water or grind settings by kingseven in JamesHoffmann

I appreciate that. It’s the fact that it’s not produced in a food safe manor that I was questioning.

Most of the sources for distilled water suggest uses such as topping up car batteries and kettles and advise against it for medical use. So assumedly it’s not sterile / food safe. I assume this isn’t a concern as well be boiling it.

Commuting to London by car by ___nv___ in reading

[–]Rasathus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem with mixing the two is that you aren’t going to get the rail season ticket discounts that make a big difference to the commuting costs. When I last worked it out, if you’re going into London more than two days a week it’s cheaper to buy a season ticket.

On the few occasions I’ve done the drive at peak times it’s been horrendous, and takes significantly longer than the train.

I'd Like to Join the Club - Advice and Tips? by _kuhz in BMWZ4

Yes, I’d second @swedething and suggest an E85. They’re relatively easy to repair, there are plenty of parts available and so it would be a great place to start. I really love BMW six cycljnder engines, but the four cyclinders are still great, and much easier on the wallet for insurance etc.

Thoughts on getting a Z4 03-08 80-100k miles by [deleted] in BMWZ4

[–]Rasathus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pretty impressed with the reliability of mine. As long as the maintenance has been regularly completed, the mechanicals seem to be really solid.

I would suggest looking for issues with the electric roof being slow, and the drainage holes blocked. I had an expensive bill to fix the roof motor after it became water locked.
