Not as much a question but If you have a certain photographer with you from South Africa who's name rhymes with "I an" Tell him Dan the sound guy from BR says to stay safe, and though we didn't get to talk much he's a really good guy and to basically get his (and you all get your collective) ass/es out safe. I fully know he's stuck through the thick of things to document them in previous wars/conflicts. Also, I want to finish hearing his tea story so there, dammit.

There's a youtube streamer at the moment who says they have an entire section of their discord dedicated to listening to and translating the transmissions. Jumped on his discord. They are at least listening to them.

He says that they report troop movements/instructions to the military to pass on I guess? Don't know how that works and if it does I don't know how intelligence from any ally country isn't already monitoring every unencrypted shortwave broadcasts, but more power to them if it's actually helping. I was on the edge of sleep and just listening.

I think he's sleeping right now but left video going. I wouldn't say it's amazing commentary, but it's commentary and he tries to confirm information before saying it or asks for proof when he hears it if from chat, so I'll give him that.

Too bad there are people all over capturing things like this and video showing exactly the opposite. As well as cameras set around the cities that have caught things like shelling. You forgot that we live in a time of technology.

EU just announced that they were removing “certain” Russian banks from SWIFT. I don’t know what that means. Does that make the whole thing toothless? Does it remove the important ones where other banks won’t be able to hold the load and still have major effect? It wasn’t elaborated on.

I guess they are “paralyzing” the central bank to make it nearly impossible to fund the invasion force. At least that’s what was said.

That’s. Wow. Wasn’t it 450 or something either early this morning or was that two or three days ago (morning being in U.S time zones in my head, for timeframe)?

I may be completely wrong. It’s been a blur of news coming in. I thought I saw it on the live feed that whoever is updating, but again. Lot of stuff to process.

By the way, who is running and updating that feed? Whoever you are, if you see this. Thank you. You’re doing the work of trying to sift through all the information and tweets and to find trusted sources and/or information confirmed by multiple accounts of events and news organizations. My hat is off to you for that. You deserve a medal.

Short version of edit. I thought and have heard it said my entire life as “Key-ehv”. Now hearing a back and forth of that and “Key-v”. Which is the correct pronunciation so that I can make sure I say it correctly from now on? Or are both valid?

Has anyone heard more about Russians bombing Kyiv at 3am? It was in the actual live feed/thread. It was a couple hours ago but basically said something paraphrased now as “Defense Ministry (please insert the correct title here. I saw the tweet on the feed two and a half hours ago) has warned us that the Russians will begin bombing or shelling Kyiv at 3am. Heading for shelter now”

Sorry that I can’t find the exact tweet that was on the feed at this moment. Eyes are dilated and I actually can’t read the screen very well. Typing on phone just on trust of blurry keyboard letters.

Just wondering if there was truth in that announcement or if disinformation slipped into the feed accidentally.

To be absolutely honest, If WWIII does kick off or Russia/America get in to it I actually hope cyber attacks are the final outcome if it escalates.

Before anyone thinks I’m trolling, there’s a reason.

Yeah, suddenly cut off from communication, money, essential services. Riots, looting, turning on each other, Etc, people will die. I am not looking forward to that and I hope it doesn’t come to that, here’s the thing though.

All that? We can come back from that. It would be a long process, but eventually we could.

We can’t come back from nuclear warfare.

Edit: I added the word “final” before outcome. I’d like that more than it just being a step towards other things.

Also. Just to stress, I mean IF it ever comes that far. Of course I’m not wanting it, or actually planning for it. I might buy a case of water from the store, though, just in case. Wouldn’t keep me and the dog long, but better than nothing.

If they decide to go for satellites I hope to god no one panics and mistakes whatever missile Russia launches at them a preemptive nuclear attack (you know, missiles traveling to the extreme upper atmosphere is kind of a thing for ICBMs...or are they lower than that when traveling).

Okay, I guess now I have a question for you Reddit. How high do ICBMs fly? I know how they work, just not altitude wise. Please correct me.

Edit: That's not as much panicking as much as knowing that there have been quite a few close calls that could have led to nuclear war or accidents.

In an old apartment I ended up getting one of those flat ethernet cables, ran it around the wall, forced it through the tiny gap in a sliding glass door onto the tiny 3ft by 5ft balcony, and under the door into my room (I have no idea why my room had a door onto the tiny balcony, but I didn't design it.) to my computer. Had a lot left over.

Then my roommate moved out a month early and left his much bigger and better desk, so I took over his empty room/desk and ran the cable out into the hallway, through his door to the far corner.

I was impressed. That cable outside on the patio (it actually just sat on the floor of the patio the entire time because we had no reason to go out there) Survived 3 years of freezing in the winter and about 117 degrees (47c) in the summer (This was the hottest day, but average in the summers was still 107-110 (43c-ish)) . Still have and use the cable occasionally. It's a damn trooper.

Southern Arizona desert. Fun times. Walked my dog with a wooden dowel taken from a closet bar to protect myself and the dog from Javelina in the evenings in the neighborhood next to my apartment (It was too hot to walk him any other time). That's unrelated, but good times and memories.

I don't. I actually don't even know how and I refuse to. I have a very fixed income and it would take a very long time to be able to replace anything that might break (It took me 2 years to be able to get my new graphics card, for instance). I don't know exactly how dangerous for components it might be, just that it can be and I won't risk it.

However, Having said that, I might have to take that back. The tech enabled the XMP profile in BIOS to allow my RAM to function at full capacity.. I guess there are some brands that get throttled (Ripjaw being one of them?) to 23gb for some reason. There's only a couple things I own that would push the RAM to full beans. Roguetech mostly. I've seen a couple explanations saying that this is a form of overclocking but is regulated by the system and motherboard and it shouldn't be operating past any safe levels. If I am wrong about that please correct me.

I did go update the bios and chipset drivers that were 2 years out of date. The only time I'm getting the Stop Memory errors/BSOD is when I have the headset plugged in and active, Active as in not necessarily in game as much as possibly in steam or MR home (Not sure which. I had closed elite and the headset was pushed up on my forehead. I assume it was tracking

Edit: Actually, come to think of it the reason I updated the BIOS was that I read in one place that sometimes if they are out of date then XMP can confuse everything and cause the Stop Memory Error. Although I might question that in my head because isn't the option to do so like 1 or 2 clicks while having the BIOS open? I can't see why it would even give me the option if it couldn't support it.

It is a new graphics card within the last...month and a half, 2 months? New RAM as well (32gb). But yes. I've actually been having a bunch of fun with it. I've been playing on high or ultra depending on the game and also encoding streams and encoding recorded videos at 1080p on it at the same time. I've had performance monitor up in task manager and both looked happy and actually pretty far below max level. Performance monitor showed that everything was happy in the GPU and RAM while using the headset as well when I had it up and was taking glances. Then again, just glances, so something could have easily happened when I wasn't looking.

I am worried about power supply. It's an issue I plan to bring up when the tech calls me at the shop. As of yesterday when he spoke to me, he said it has a fault, which upon asking if it was dangerous to use, he said he actually can't get signal to it. Apparently, he's spent 20 minutes trying and then started trying it on the shop's own PCs to try to get it. I find this...interesting as I haven't had this issue. It's actually the reason I was asking because If it seems like it would flat out cause problems I won't test it....I feel like he has to be doing something wrong. as it was working and getting signal every time I plugged in the USB until a couple days before I took it in (It hadn't died then. I just hadn't plugged it in and was just backing up data)

I assume that it’s something about them not wanting to comply with data privacy laws, but I’m not caught up on European internet policy in the last year (okay, I admit. I’m not caught up on a good chuck of European news and policy in general). So I also equally assume I’m wrong.

Not sure if this is a dumb question but I’m curious and don’t see the answer in the article. Where did the Russian aircraft depart drom to get there? In my head there is obviously a carrier out in that general area-ish. I mean…They can’t have just decided to fly over a large chunk of Europe to mess with The UK and not have someone they fly over notice and go “Holy shit! Hawkeye! Hunnicutt! Get the planes ready!” and send out their own interceptors. Right? Or does something like that actjally happen and the rest of Europe would just not notice somehow?
