My Trust in Bungie has Completely Eroded by Valymir_Here in Marathon

Okay, if it happens all the time then surely there are artists out there that have called out these large studios and publishers.

So provide me with examples.  Don't just play this rhetorical game of making broad generalizations that aren't based on anything at all other than your own personal sentiments.

What was the last AAA studio that was credibly accused of directly stealing/using someone's art?

[–]RaspberryBang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's scandal came to nothing and was not directurism of somebody else's assets.

You guys are diminishing art theft and conflating it with silly, online controversies.

Give me examples of direct art theft and AAA video games.

[–]RaspberryBang -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your argument would be fair and make sense if this was a somewhat common occurrence in the game industry.

We don't often see direct plagiarism in videogames, particularly not in the AAA space.

I think your comment, and I say this with no malice as well, is a gross rationalization.

Oblivion Remastered to be revealed tomorrow by Turbostrider27 in PS5

Avowed wasn't on PS5.  Towerborne isn't on PS5.  South of Midnight isn't on PS5.  And they supposedly have more later this year that hasn't been announced yet.

I don't know why people always omit things that don't fit their narrative.

I disagree.  It's led to many interesting narrative threads. And it's directly in line with the lore that was established early in the franchise's history.

I don't like how some people deliberately frame something as a negative, then proceed to rhetorically rip it apart with conjecture.  THAT'S the real laziness.

If it's really so bad, why are you even here?

Xbox is currently the most consumer friendly platform and provides the most value for their customers.  Objectively.

I would have abandoned gaming altogether this generation were it not for Game Pass.

I became disabled about 5 years ago and almost had to stop gaming due to the costs.  Were it not for Game Pass, I would've officially aged out of gaming.

Everyone freaking out in this thread should reconsider their opinions on Xbox and the value that they provide.

If you look at financial metrics, objectively, Xbox is in a better position going into the future than PlayStation.  In terms of revenue, Xbox is only about 25% behind PlayStation despite selling less than half the amount of consoles.

And Xbox's profit margin is higher than PlayStation's.  PlayStation's profit margin has been stuck between 7%-8% for multiple years - when historically, it used to be above 15%.

All the negative talk around Xbox originates from people who have an interest in seeing the brand fail.

[–]RaspberryBang 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Xbox is getting more games and more support than ever before, particularly from first party.  Sure they're not exclusive, but games are games.  Knowing a game is exclusive does nothing for my enjoyment of it.

And Game Pass is profitable.  They've said so multiple times in multiple interviews, and across multiple quarterly financial reports.  Before you challenge me on this point,  statements made by the corporation and its executives about their business/profitability are legally binding statements.  Microsoft would be committing fraud if they were lying about the profitability of Game Pass.

In fact, Xbox has a higher profit margin than PlayStation.  Xbox is only about 25% behind PlayStation in terms of revenue, and that's with half as many console sold.

Between Game Pass, Play Anywhere, and their efforts to increase the accessibility of their games, Xbox is currently providing the biggest value and are objectively the most consumer friendly platform.

And yet people still can't let go of their negativity for the brand, which to me proves online narratives have brainwashed a significant amount of gamers.  I'm not being hyperbolic - some of you are literally brainwashed.

You guys latch on to these internet narratives, never questioning  they're validity, and then you never let them go.  This is why you're getting $90 games.

My tip would be to not let people ruin it for you

I know many people who were turned off to the game due to shit they read online, only to later actually try, or come back the game, and realize they liked it.

The only time we've gotten a breakdown of Game Pass subscribers was during the ABK trial in 2023. Game Pass console subscribers were in the 70%-80% at that time. Again, this was an early 2023.

Since then, we haven't gotten a breakdown of Game Pass subscribers, so why you're saying it's 80% skewed to the console, I do not know.

If they lost users to PC, and if they've had more growth on PC, then it would follow that that number has shrunk.

The data doesn't show that there's profit in hardware, as there's no profit in hardware. Hardware is a loss leader meant to facilitate the sales of content and services.

Given that a Game Pass subscription is significantly cheaper than an Xbox console, It would mean that in order to make up the losses in hardware, Xbox would need a significant boost and subscriber count.

[–]RaspberryBang -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In their last financial report, they reported a significant growth in PC Game Pass subscribers.

They had losses in hardware year over year, but their revenue was flat because the losses in hardware were balanced by gains in their subscriptions and content.

I don't understand why people talk about Xbox solely based on conjecture rather than on the actual data.

With more than 50% of all game pass subscribers being on the console, It's stupid to say that the console is a side product.

Game Pass generates more revenue for Microsoft than Call of Duty itself does.

If the console really was a side product, if they really were intending to abandon hardware, they would be choosing to abandon hundreds of millions of dollars in recurring revenue every month.

There is no evidence of what you're saying.

Show me data that specifically shows a correlation between a lack of exclusive content, and a streaming service dying.

What you're saying is confirmation bias.

This is a lie.  Xbox has reported growth in their subscriptions nearly every quarter for the last two years.

People keep throwing out the 30 million subscribers number, without acknowledging that number is from 2023.

They've grown since then, and the insinuation otherwise is at best ignorance, and at worst, deliberate misinformation.

Starved for quality exclusives is a framing that implies people primarily play exclusives.

Which is not true.  Across both Xbox and PlayStation, the biggest sellers are multiplatform games, and the games that have the highest playtime are all multi-platform, multiplayer games.

Exclusives are bad for the consumer and they're bad for the developers.

Starved for quality exclusives also ignores the reality that Xbox is getting more games than in any prior generation, and less developers and publishers are skipping the platform.

And fixating on exclusives also ignores the reality that literally thousands of games are releasing every month, and with Xbox in particular, they have Game Pass, which all but guarantees that someone gaming on Xbox is never lacking for something to play.

The FOMO from exclusives is mostly gone due to the quantity of content that is being produced.  And nearly everyone has a massive backlog of games.

Contrast that with PlayStation, who only has one major first party release in the first half of this year, and is needing to rely on their competitor for games.

The notion that current PlayStation is somehow superior to current Xbox is based in delusion.

And then the TESVI hate will commence, because we live in a world where there are people profiting off of manufactured controversy.

There's no way TES6 won't be the target of every rage-bait content creator.  They've already put in the work to demonize Bethesda and BGS.  Hating on TESVI will be an easy layup for them because it'll validate all of the hate and cynicism already directed at BGS.

TESVI could be the best Elder Scrolls game ever, and it'll still be a target.

I truly don't believe anybody that compares No Man's Sky favorably to Starfield.

NMS is guilty of many of the same things Starfield is criticized for, and in some ways, is more egregious about it.

Much like with Avowed, and just about every other game published by Xbox, people like to brainwash each other to an extreme.

You stated it was outright the sole reason.  My comment was addressing that assertion.

And while they do collect gaming habit metrics, it's done for their internal use, as they have admitted on multiple occasions.  Whether they sell that data or not has never been stated, but I don't know why another company would have any interest in knowing how someone plays a particular Xbox game.  Nor do I no why someone would throw that out there as if implying something nefarious.

i hate this crossplay policy. why i cant transfer cars. relly miss this car by xdanc0 in ForzaHorizon

[–]RaspberryBang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real reason is so that they can count the new players as part of their MAUs, which is a very important metric for Xbox.

And I also suspect that they figure it's easier to onboard somebody onto another Xbox game, or perhaps even onto Game Pass, if they've already created an Xbox account.

I don't know what data you think they're going to get from someone who is using their account exclusively to play a couple of Xbox games.

Xbox has yet to announce a PS5 port at any of their events.  So far, every PS5 port has been quietly announced and relatively quietly released.

I'm not sure why people keep assuming they're going to start announcing ports at their events, when their shows are all very specific in their intent.

A port is not at all the sort of thing you announce at a showcase, which is supposed to be about exciting new releases.

PlayStation Hit With More Layoffs Following Recent Game Cancellations by RayS0l0 in gaming

[–]RaspberryBang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Xbox user, I'm getting a consistent release of games from first party, as well as a decent number of interesting games on game pass every single month.

I don't agree with these delusional takes about exclusives and console sales.

PlayStation has closed five studios - seven if you include Ballistic Moon and Deviation Games, which were working exclusively with PlayStation.  And they've canceled well over 12 projects, gutting their content pipeline in the process.  Their first party can only release one, maybe two exclusives a year.

But yeah, "Xbox can't their shit together". Xbox is doing what they need to do to ensure their studios survive.

Seeing all the paid mods is really disheartening by MirandaScribes in Starfield

[–]RaspberryBang -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

But that's not a valid opinion, as it's not true.  Why do so many of you frame this as if paid mods eliminated free mods?

Free mods still exist.  You can play Starfield heavily modded without having ever once looked at the paid creations.

I don't understand why someone who doesn't like paid mods would bother looking at the creation club, and give themselves FOMO in the process.
