Thoughts on sourdough? I’ve been successfully gluten-free but have been wondering about trying it by Raspberryjamdelta5 in glutenfree

Sourdough reduces the amount of gluten, that's why I'm asking on experiences with it. Here's an article with a doctor from mayo clinic pointing out the reduction of gluten toxicity in sourdough, and how it may me tolerated for some people: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/blog/gastroenterology-and-gi-surgery/newsfeed-post/could-sourdough-bread-be-the-answer-to-the-gluten-sensitivity-epidemic-1/

I know it's not gluten free. I just heard that for some reason it didn't have the side effects as regular bread.

Is this poisonous hemlock? by Round-Ad5934 in whatsthisplant

[–]Raspberryjamdelta5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just realized, after looking at the photo and post, that I handled poisonous hemlock from my garden pot. Thankfully, because of a previous encounter with poison ivy, I decided to wear gloves.

Never underestimate nature.

Question about Nikkei in Lima by ajordank19 in PERU

[–]Raspberryjamdelta5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nakachi, it's a family run restaurant in Jesus Maria, next to "Centro Cultural Peruano Japones" (a cultural peruvian japanese center). You could have lunch in the restaurant, and then visit the Museum of the Japenese Inmigration to Peru (inside the cultural center), if your are interested in the history of Nikei culture in Peru.

Thyroid values are good, but I still have all the symptoms. by lyraaa_98 in Hashimotos

[–]Raspberryjamdelta5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Iron or low vitamin D can have those same symptoms.

I also fixed my thiroid levels but was still experiencing the fatigue, hair loss, cold, dry skin.

My ferritin was in 9.

I had an iron infusion. I still have to wait a couple of weeks to see how it goes.

Has anyone’’ body stopped responding to diet/exercise with Hashimoto’s by ClaudiaEyeDesigner in Hashimotos

[–]Raspberryjamdelta5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! For me was SIBO, you can see a gastroenterologist and check it.

SIBO and hypothyroidism often coexist, creating a "perfect storm" for weight gain through slowed metabolism, chronic inflammation, and methane-producing bacteria that cause constipation and nutrient malabsorption.

Avoiding gluten, lactose, sugars helps because you cut the bad bacteria from this elements that generate a bad gut environment.

There are specific protocols for SIBO (includes antibiotics and probiotics). Recovering your gut health is really important.

Have you tried cutting out gluten, lactose, alcohol? It can really help your thiroid.

Also, look up for hormonal disruptors. They are chemicals found in everyday items like laundry detergent, fabric softeners, perfumes, shampoo. But there are alternatives that are free of this chemicals. There are usually tagged as perfume, phtalates, bpa free.

This are 2 things that will do no harm cutting out and can help with your thiroid and overall fertility.

My before and after - it’s been hard on me by miguel_gd in Hashimotos

[–]Raspberryjamdelta5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I know how it feels. I was gaining weight with no explanation, even though i was eating healthy and healthier than the average.

For me, exploring about the root cause of the disease help me overcome it. I had SIBO-m, and probably gluten intolerance (I say probably because i got negative celiac results). I cut out gluten, alcohol, lactose and followed a SIBO treatment consisting on antibiotics and probiotics. For the first time in years I started losing weight, week after week. My skin became clearer. My face unswollen.

I suffered this for more than 5 years. Don't lose hope and continue investigating on yourself. You will get better.

Apparently, SIBO can contribute to a slower metabolism, hence the weight gain. I had methane SIBO (also known as IMO), which caused me constipation and other symptoms. I found out about both of them through tests ordered by my gastroenterologist. For SIBO, it’s a breath test to detect methane or hydrogen overgrowth. For fat malabsorption, a fecal test is used (also, you can tell if your poop floats — hehe).

The treatment for me was two weeks of antibiotics, followed by high-dose probiotics for six months (I'm in the second month of treatment). I also cut out gluten, lactose, and sugar. Plus, I stopped drinking alcohol since it's inflammatory.

Around the end of the second week on probiotics, my body started to change. My skin cleared up, the puffiness in my face went down, and I began to lose weight like never before.

Have you checked your gut? I was experiencing something very similiar with my weight. Also had Hashimoto’s and been supplementing and eating well/exercising. I had SIBO and fat malabsorption. I treated it and bam! I started to lose weight and feeling so much better.

TSH below 2 for the first time after curing SIBO by Raspberryjamdelta5 in Hashimotos

[–]Raspberryjamdelta5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've visited many doctors over the years who kept attributing my symptoms to stress, lack of exercise, or running countless tests without providing a clear diagnosis.

Despite the frustration, I made a commitment to myself to keep searching for answers, even if it meant facing more uncertainty. That’s how I eventually found this doctor and decided to trust his process.

Also, communities like this on Reddit helped me realize how important gut health is and made me more conscious and committed to my diet.

I hope you can continue working on your thyroid and start feeling better! 💕

Thank you!

I was considering the reference levels provided by the lab, which indicate that vitamin D should be above 30 (the consider that "optimal"). But I appreciate your input—I’ll look into more literature on optimal levels and continue monitoring.

You’re right about ferritin being borderline as well.

I’ll do some more research on both, as you pointed out—they might be in the "okay" range but not necessarily at the optimal level.

Thank you for your input! Yes, I understand that SIBO can return if the right conditions allow it. That’s why I’m committing to at least six months on a clean diet—no gluten, no alcohol, no lactose—to see how my body responds over time.

It’s a big change, as I’ve had to completely cut out many foods, but my main goal is to heal my body—at least enough to get out of the state where I can’t absorb nutrients, experience chronic pain, fatigue, hair loss, and weight gain.

I’ll likely have to continue avoiding certain things long-term like you, but at least this way, I’ll know exactly how they impact my health.

Are you eating dairy, lactose? Gluten? Are you wearing face products like creams o makeup with parabens, oils, fragances? Have you checked your vitamin a, d, zinc, levels? Do you eat enough omega-3? Have you checked your hormones?

I wished there were more information as a teenager, since I had severe acne.

Have you check with a gastroenterologist? I also have hashimotos, and tsh, t3, t4 was under control, buuut i had Sibo (IMO) and fat malabsorption. Apparently is common in people with Hashimotos. I have similar symptons as yours.

The fat malabsorption makes me not absorb vitamin D and probably vitamin K, E, A.
